Model Reviewed: EOS Rebel 2000 QD Body

Strength:

It has the same AF as the Pro-Models with 7 AF points. You can use all of the FD lenses available plus other accessories.

Weakness:

One minor problem was that with the use of the on camera flash unit, it would not shut properly after repetitive uses. Also the accessory: Eyepiece Extender 15MM(EP-EX15) was discontinued in the USA at least.

Great camera with Speedlight 380EX, and Battery Pack with vertical shutter button! Very Satified!

Strength:

It looks the coolest, is easy to use (but it allows you to change the shutter speed/aperture if you get more advanced), and it just looks cool hanging around your neck.

Weakness:

None so far.

I don't know what everyone is bitc***g about, but the plastic does not feel like plastic AT ALL. It feels like metal. I don't see how this camera is any less sturdy than other SLR's. A great camera all around.

Weakness:

Great beginner camera in an affordable price range.

Strength:

Very affordable. Has all the features of an autofocus camera and the quality of a manual focus camera. This is an excellent camera for a beginner photographer, but also has customizeable features that are ready for the expert photographer. An excellent camera!!!

Weakness:

None at all.

The bottom line is all the people that complain of the Rebel 2000's "plastic body" should just quit whining like babies. The plastic is just fine and I have had no problems whatsoever with it. If you don't want a plastic camera, don't buy one!!! Go spend hundreds of dollars more on a d*m*ed metal camera that doesn't take any better pictures than this one. You're just wasting your money. This is an excellent buy and I would highly recommend this camera to anyone looking for an affordable camera with all the features and quality of a "metal camera".

Customer Service

Although I haven't needed any customer service so far, I know that it is backed by Canon's wonderful warranty if I ever need it repaired.

An excellent SLR for anyone ready to take the plunge. You can grow into this camera, using more and more of the features every shoot. For the beginner, you can take great pictures right out of the box.

Strength:

full-featured, inexpensive, access to excellent Canon lenses, a camera that a user can grow with over time. Excellent exposure system.

Weakness:

***1) small and light--assets in most cases, but with larger lenses the camera hangs poorly and is hard to hold in hand. BP-200 battery pack ($32)is an essential ergonomic improvement--gives you more of a grip, and improved balance, as well as the convenience of using AA batteries. ***2)Relatively slow--1.5 fps max and 1/90 Xsync.
***3) Plastic lens mount; problem to some--see comments below.

Most complaints about the Rebel center on its alleged "plastic & flimsy" construction. This is a silly argument--plastic is a part of modern manufacture, deal with it! The Rebel will not break during routine SLR tasks (despite laughable horror stories about someones mythical Uncle Fred who "broke the body in half while trying to mount a lens"). However, if you drop the R2K off a cliff, you're screwed, but even a Nikon F5 or Leica would not likely survive such abuse either. This camera can do everything that a novice-intermediate user could ask, and is very fairly priced. Better lenses than Pentax and Minolta, and more value/dollar than Nikon, where you have to get the N70 to match all the Rebels features and performance. Nikon has a surcharge just for their name on a camera--the F5 and F100 are brilliant pro cameras, but for the non-professional, Canon is the way to go.

Customer Service

no issues so far. Manual is a bit light, but they all camera manuals seem to be.

Strength:

It relatively light and the meter and autofocus are quite reliable.

Weakness:

I've encountered some problems with backlighted subjects though. (came out too dark)

Since one of my stops in my honeymoon brought me to New York, I went to B&H Photo and bought myself a Rebel 2k with 28-135 IS and 75-300 IS lenses. This camera was then used to take many many pictures for the rest of my honeymoon. All I can say is it has definitely proven it's capability to me and to those who looked at the resulting pictures.

Strength:

$275 included decent Canon 28/80mm lense. Lightweight, great pictures using Kodak Gold and Fuji 4 layer. Easy to use for point and shoot but with advanced features for more adventurous casual user.

Weakness:

Flimsy back door. Seems very over keen to use flash in auto mode(?) when it doesn't seem necessary...

I am very pleased with it, a good value compact SLR.

7 point focus, Cool look, Light body and its a Canon

Weakness:

Autofocus is a bit messy. But better compared with similiar models in other brands.

I brought Canon EOS Rebel 2000 Camera Body, Canon EF 28-80mm Zoom Lens,Tamron AF 80-210mm Zoom Lens,
Canon Camera Bag, 58mm UV Protection, Filter,Lens Cleaning Kit, 4 Kodak 200 film rolls, a mini camera bag and a tripod for just $400 in an offer from camera world. I tried comparing this with various other models and make. It is more than worth my money spend. And after using a few rolls I am completely satisfied.
