Strength:

A lot of features for not a lot of money, quick AF, preprogrammed modes for almost all types of photos, plus full manual when you need it.

Weakness:

Plastic lense mounting ring, almost too lightweight, but with the optional battery pack the camera is much more balanced.

Great buy, but if you have more money to spend, go with the Elan II.

Strength:

Superb Autofocus, Exposure accuracy, Depth of Field Preview, Auto-Bracketing

Weakness:

Very Small - not recommended for someone with big hands

This camera is packed with features and performs superbly. Although the Canon EF28-80 II zoom lens supplied with the camera is not so well constructed (the front element on mine wobbles very slightly), it still produces sharp pictures. The auto-bracketing and depth of field preview features are a godsend. The autofocus is fast, quiet and extremely accurate, even in dim light. So far (after 2 rolls of film shot) the autoexposure also seems very accurate. Although the camera has a plastic housing, it feels very sturdy and I am confident that it will stand up to many years of picture taking.

Lightweight, yet well-built. This camera is packed with features, yet it is also a great "snap shot" camera.

Weakness:

None so far.

A great camera. Don't listen to those who tell you it too plasticky. It is very well-built. The plastic is not in any way cheap looking or feeling. Wolfexpress is a great place to buy it. Get the 28-105 USM lens.

Great price for aa amatuer/casual user.
Nice to have a wide range of modes.
I like the plastic; nice look; great weight; great pictures under all conditions so far!

Weakness:

Some of the controls are hard to use, especially the AV button;small size but as many have pointed out, the battery pack takes care of this in a snap

Love it! Am taking a photo. class and using it only in manual mode; learning how to use it that way has allowed me to fully understand the camera and thus take better advantage of all the other modes!! If you're just starting out or want a great camera for a great price with nice pictures...do it.

Strength:

Lightweight. Versatility, can be used as fully automatic or manual, including focussing. Wide range of options make it ideal for beginner or advanced photographer.

Weakness:

In built flash ok for snapshots, but for serious work needs a dedicated external unit.

Great camera which should appeal to a wide range of users. Shoot in fully auto mode or overide any settings you want to.

Strength:

I initially bought this camera as a second body for black and white. However, after using it for a while I decided that I really liked it. The 35 zone meter is very accurate and I have never had a problem with fubar negs. It is an excellent 2nd body or a primary for a beginner-intermediate.

Weakness:

The lens mount is a little weak for use with longer telephotos, but really this is not what this camera is made for. Also it only has a top speed of 1/2000.

Great camera for the person who is just starting out, or for a 2nd body that will undoubtedly expand your creativity.

Strength:

Excellent photos, easy to use. I like having the range from fully AE to fully manual. I bought from a shop that would sell me the body only, rather than the kit with the 20-80 (or whatever it was) lens, and then bought the 28-210 lens I knew I would use. No more changing lenses! Hooray. As I have gotten older, I use my camera more for snapshots, but I still want something I can use creatively.

Weakness:

Using a long (28- 210 Cosina) lens, one needs a separate flash because the built-in is so close to the lens it causes a terrible shadow on wide shots. This is not so much a problem, as a physical limitation due to the lens size. I also had a problem that seemed like the batteries were dead, but it did not "fix" with new ones. When I brought it to the shop the problem disappeared (of course). This prob recurred, but only once, and now it seems fine.

Very pleased with the quality of the pictures and the versatility of the AE/manual options.

Weakness:

Slow film advance.

This is my first camera and I'm very satisfied with it. I've used it to photograph Monterey, San Fransisco, and Hawaii and it has produced many beautiful photos. It's very easy to use and I or a beginner like me I caught on very quickly to the controls. It has all the features a newbie would want for a great price.

Good entry level SLR. Access to great Canon lenses. Excellent value.

Weakness:

Film drive is slow--1.5fps.

Yes this is a light camera, and no, it's not as durable as something with a metal body. But you know that when you're buying it. This camera is an excellent value. I'm very happy with it.
