Strength:

This camera has ton of features, and it still is easy to use by beginners. It also has a great price. This would be the perfect camera for the begginer who realy wants to get into photography, yet still wants to use automatic options at times. It also has a great quality.

Weakness:

It is a bit small but it's not a problem for me because I have smaller hands. The built in flash is also a bit weak.

I would recamend this camera to anyone begginer or pro. The great features and easy use is one of the best things about it. The built in flash is a little weak, so if you do a lot of flash photography I suggest you buy a better flash. What else can I say, this camera is great.

Strength:

Light weight, full line of EOS lenses, very user-friendly, ability to go from full auto to partial auto to full manual.

Weakness:

Almost too compact--a bit small for my hands without the BP-200 battery pack, but with the pack, it's perfect.

I love this camera. For the price, it has the most features of any camera I looked at. As a beginning photographer, I really appreciate the range of flexibility that this camera offers me as I learn new techniques. I can't recommend this camera highly enough!

Strength:

Near-professional feature with a mid-range price
Full manual features combined with full auto features

Weakness:

If you are not using the Ultrasound lens, the lens sound is a bit too loud.

Canon EOS 300 is a perfect camera for enthusiast beginners as well as semi-pro. It has all features that a beginner (or even casual users) can use without the hassle of measuring light, as well as a lot of near-pro features such as 7 focusing points, 35 metering region.
I have used the camera, in night scenery auto mode, to take pictures in a cave (no sunlight). The result is superb, detailing the object (person) as well as the background (cave walls) and all with an auto setting.
I would suggest this camera to any users, from beginner level up to pro. The only group of users that would not find this camera useful are those working with formats other than 35mm.

Quick AF, Great Creative Zone, up to 8 feet body flash(total drakness manual focusing w/o lens hood) Compact design, EOS compatible, more stuff than you can handle Great Price.

Weakness:

User manual not well oriented for a beginner. Baterry meter doesn't warn me once and I lost a good shooting opportunity.

This is my first SLR and never been dissapointed. Great camera for all ocations. My 10Y Brother can handle it and P&S in full auto. My wife also likes it because the easy reading dial, AF and with the lens in AF it will not shoot until focus is achived no more upss!! With patience the results are great.

Model Reviewed: EOS Rebel 2000/EOS 300

Strength:

lightweight, excellent metering

Weakness:

slow flash sync, questionable durability of internal electronics (USA Canon users still remember the Elan II fiasco).

I had a nice long review written, but the application seems to choke on all that text, so in a nutshell:

(a) Minolta HTsi - fastest shutter of the group (1/4000 max), but plastic tripod mount and no viewfinder meter readings. I compose my shots through the lens, not from my hip, so viewfinder info is critical.

(b) Pentax ZX-50 and ZX-5n - hard time finding local shops that carry the Pentax line. Cameras are good, certainly better than the Rebel G and 2000, but where do I go for servicing? With the ZX-5n I can use my old lenses (can't with the ZX-50). If the Rebel 2000 doesn't work out, I may go back to Pentax after all.

(c) Rebel G - for $50 more you can get 4 more focusing zones and better exposures from the Rebel 2000. Or you could use that $50 toward a better lens. Its your decision.

(d) Nikon N60 - no remote shutter release. What was Nikon thinking? Because of this, its unsuitable for most photography classes, and therefore not recommended.

(e) Rebel 2000 - Polycarbonate plastic is extremely durable (used in eyeglass lens construction and the high-end Oakley sports sunglasses - no shattering) but no prismatic viewfinder (uses a different design) and has the slowest flash sync of the group. But has everything a beginner will need in a camera, including multiple exposure capability, remote shutter (you buy the trigger seperately), metal tripod mount, depth of field preview (though a bit dark and hard to judge), timer, and an excellent selection of lens options. For an entry-level SLR, it has everything you'll need until you're ready for serious stop-action indoor photography.

Customer Service

Three shops in the area that'll help me if it breaks.

For the price, this is a great camera. It's light has many functions and looks great.

Weakness:

I haven't had any so far but if you have large hands then ergronomics could be an issue.

This is a great camera for beginners. There have been some poor reviews left on this camera, but hay wake up this is not a $1000 pro camera so don't start comparing it to high end equipment.
It's easy to use and takes great pictures. Can't say I would have even thought about another camera. Cameraworld.com has great prices and usually have $50 off on weekends. The N60 came close but too heavy for my needs with less features. Pentax Z7 was an option but I thought the rebel had more to offer.

Light weight, Canon lenses, full manual mode option, good features for the price.
Excellent for beginners to intermediate levels.

Weakness:

With its light weight body, and heavy lenses, it tends to hang in a rather awkard way. Also the in-built flash is not the best - sometimes indoor shots are disappointing with that.

I have had a fantastic experience with it outdoors. After buying it, I went on a vacation to Yellowstone National Park, and came back with six rolls of film. A friend commented - "not even one shot has turned out bad ...."

Weight, Weight, WEIGHT!!! For backpacking and climbing the light weight to quality ratio of this camera is unsurpassed. Excellent autofocus and depth-of-field preview sets it above its competitors.

Weakness:

Flash is unflattering. Plastic construction keeps me up at nights worrying if sneezing near the camera will break it, (it hasn't busted after numerous climbing ventures and much abuse!)

For those interested in getting started - it's a great buy. For those seeking a lightweight quality piece for backcountry use where you need to carry your gear as opposed to loading up a burro or porter - it's an awesome buy.

Strength:

Very Lightweight. Easy to use.

Weakness:

Exposure meter very suspect. It tends to expose for the very brightest point then underexposes it by 1 or 2 stops. Seems very flimsy compared to my Nikon F601AF

I brought this camera because it had a depth of field preview button, was lightweight and low cost. However due to the exposure problems I will never trust this camera and can't wait to get rid of it.

Customer Service

Due to the exposure problems I had the camera replaced. This was done by the local camera shop without any fuss. The second body has the same faults as the first one.

I love my Rebel. I picked it up as a complete photgraphy novice a year ago just because I needed something to document my theatre work with, and it's grown with me as I've become a real photoenthusiast since. Great bang for the buck -- easy enough to use for the beginner I was a year ago; versatile enough for me to start selling prints from it a few weeks ago. Has almost all the features you could want -- I bought it because I needed multiple exposure and manually adjustable metering, which I couldn't find elsewhere in this price range.

A few might complain about the plastic construction, but to be honest, modern plastics are stronger than you'd think, and lightness is a real asset when you find yourself hauling the thing all over the city during a special event. The thing's pretty rigid under any circumstance, so long as you don't plan on running it over with your car.

Absolutely wonderful camera for a beginner or casual photographer. Good enough to produce salable prints, too, but I'd probably trade up if I were to go pro.
