Strength:

As a beginner, I was/am happy with the fact that I can I use the auto settings or switch to something more manual with ease. The Auto settings seem to be working well, although, as with almost all products these days, low light performance is still less than desirable.

I will move up at some point in time, but I feel this Rebel 2000 will still be in use even after that.

Weakness:

I'm not very excited about the lack of variety in some of the accessories like i've seen in past EOS series cameras. I wear glasses and would like to see something similar to the Eb-e eyepiece cover that has an extension on one side to block more light out when viewing through the viewfinder.

If you're a beginner, this camera packs a good set of features that allow you some freedom when you're playing/learning (like me) and the ability to let the camera take control in those moments when you want to be a little more assured the shot will turn out alright.

If you wear glasses, however, be prepared to be a little disappointed, as I was, with the lack of accessories for aiding us "slowly going blind" people :).

Also, if you've got big hands (again, like me), I 've found that the BP-200 helps put a little more substance there to hold on to. It also has a vertical shutter release and only ran about $40.

Customer Service

Haven't had to use/call it yet.

Strength:

Light, full of features not usually available in an entry level SLR. Inexpensive, very compact, controls that are easy to use and reach.

Weakness:

Plastic lens mount-man I hate that!
No motor drive to speak of.

I got this camera for my wife only to realize it can do everything my EOS-1V can do (well, almost everything) for routine photography at a fraction of the price, not to mention the weight. I saw no difference in the metering system at all. About the only thing I miss is spot metering, but hey, I've got a hand light meter for that. Of course there's also the lack of a high speed drive, but then I can't actually remember ever using my 1V at it's full 10 fps (yes, I have the Nimh high speed pack-never really needed it yet). I'm having a hard time getting this camera away from my wife, I might just get another one, they're cheap on the used shelves.

The Red-eye reduction is great and I like all of the other features and the zoom lens and especially the built-in flash

Weakness:

I haven't found any except there is one inconvinience-you have to use the tripod when taking night pictures.

It is a great camera and I have had a lot of sucess with it.

Strength:

Price, ease of use, seems intuitive.

Weakness:

Dont know yet, but it does seem like you have to be gentle with this camera.

I am a graphic artist and have worked with digital images for years. This is my first 35 mm "film" camera. It is safe to say that I am an ABSOLUTE beginner when it comes to film. (I am still trying to understand f stops!!)

I just brought this camera home tonite and have been shooting in the 'auto' mode thus far until I have a better understanding of manual settings.

It was a VERY tough decision between this and the Minolta for me, the salesman even tried to pursuade me toward the Minolta at the same price.

When I started trying them out in the store, the Canon seemed more intuitive to me. I got 'lost' trying to set the settings on the Minolta.

Although the Minolta seemed to have more features, I decided on the Canon.

I havent got any pictures back yet to offer an opinion on the quality of them.

It seems as though this camera will serve its purpose for me - being (VERY) new to film.

Hope this helps someone that is still in the research stages of purchasing their camera.

Strength:

Depth-of-field preview. Lightweight, very small size, light-measuring system extremely accurate most of the time. Very fast autofocus with EF28-105, Sigma 17-35HSM, EF50/1.8.

Weakness:

I would prefer the depth-of-field preview button and the flash pop-up button swapped. Really annoying focus assist lighting. Sloppy construction when it comes to the pop-up flash: the thing can't even close without leaving an 1mm wide crack! It is not possible to select AI mode from one-shot without resorting to the PIC-modes. 1.5 frames/second only

I bought this camera because I wanted something really small and lighweight, compared to the 50E. After a few days' using it with the EF50/1.8, I sold the 50E and bought a second 300 as a backup. If you don't need a fast drive, it is an excellent choice.

Strength:

EASY, EASY, EASY!!! I love how fast and easy this camera is able to adapt to any situation. I recently went to a beach pier to take some shots of people. I loved how easily I could go from action shots of surfing and volleyball to still shots of colorful people. They turned out great! I bought the QD model with the matching silver colored 25-90mm lense. Next month I am going to buy a 200mm aspherical.

Weakness:

Buy the battery pack it's a great option! I really don't think there are many weaknesses. I have heard that the mounts are plastic rather than metal, but I haven't noticed this as a weakness

This is a great camera for not only beginners but for experts as well! Awsome features and modes, but if you're feeling lazy, just flip it to full auto and kick back and have some fun shooting. Buy a nice lense like the Tamron 200MM aspherical if you're going to get serious.

Customer Service

I bought my camera on the internet, and when I got it the Autofocus wasn't working. I live near the Irvine Canon Plant. I took it in, they fixed it, I had it back in less than a week. It would have taken 3-4 weeks had I returned it to the internet vendor. Great Service!

Strength:

Price and options.

Weakness:

The battery cover feels like it'll break off with extended use.
The manual seems a little simplistic. Get the Magic Lantern guide to go with it.

It seems to be a good, all-around camera for beginners. I wanted something I could learn with and this camera does the job nicely especially considering the price. I bought the camera with a Tamron 100-300mm macro lens and a Sigma 28-105mm Aspherical lens along with a few accessories. I used it on a mini-vacation to the Blue Ridge Parkway and was satisfied with the results. The few "bad" pictures I had were due to poor judgement rather than the camera itself.
I've never had a problem with the plastic camera mount or the eyepiece and don't really expect to have a problem. With proper care and a little common sense, this camera should last many years (with the possible exception of the plastic-hinged battery cover). I have no regrets about choosing the Rebel 2000.

Strength:

Inexpensive Canon quality, many features with manual handling included, good built in flash. The light metering is top quality (35 zone evaluating)with very nice partial (near spot) metering.

Weakness:

Oh come on.....the 28-90 zoom which fo;;ows the camera body is much inferior to camera features.....Ok there is no fast motor drive but I 'll never need that...

Well I 've read all this stuff here. My opinion is that the EOS 300 is at the top (considering features and light metering). Yes it's light, nice handling and of course it's a new generation product (that means it doesn't weight kilos!!!). About the lens: Sorry the Canon 28-90 standard zoom is a bad choice. What I got? A Sigma 28-135mm f/3.8-5.6 Aspherical IF Macro is my choice for sharpness all over the GREAT 28-135 focal range. The combination of the EOS 300 body and this lens (which costs the 1/3 of the Canon equivalent)is SIMPLY THE BEST!!! Who needs to pay for the EOS 1V or the Dynax 9xi etch...Canon 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM works fine with the EOS 300 and they make together a powerfull light weighted tool. The value rating here is only for the camera body...

Strength:

-Small and compact
-Batteries (2 CR2 Lithium batteris) last forever--I have taken about 15 rolls of film on the first set, and the display shows they are still full of juice!
-So many features that I haven't even used some of them, but they would come in handy if I did need them!

Weakness:

-Plastic lens mount, but I'm careful with my stuff!

I bought this camera in Jan 2001. This is a great camera, and it takes beautiful pictures! I ordered the package, which came with the Canon 28-80 EF II lens, and I have since purchased a Tamron 70-300 LD lens with macro capabilites. I can't seem to stop taking pictures with it (I took 5 rolls within 2-3 weeks)! I almost always use manual focusing, and I use the "M", "AV", and "TV" settings the most. If you are looking at entry level SLRs, this is the camera for you. I think it was Popular Photography magazine or Petersen's Photographic who did an article in the June(?) issue about entry level SLRs, and they rated 5 cameras (Rebel 2K, Nikon N65, Pentax ZX7, and 2 others). They all did pretty well, but they seemed to like the Rebel 2000. Anyway, I am a photography minor, and this camera suits my needs. I know of 4 other people who have the same camera as me, and they all had good things to say!
