Strength:

Its my first time to use a autofocus lens and I find it really great, the exposure compensation and metering really helps me a lot. Very lightweight and easy to cary around. And the price is affordable, especially for beginners who wants a inexpensive SLR camera. I always use the creative mode and haven't tried the programmed mode yet.

Weakness:

Battery compartment covering looks a little weak, as if it would break after several openings.

Great camera for beginners.

Strength:

Light weight and small to carry around. Good and reliable backup (Canon) autofocus to have if you don't mind the "cheapness" of the camera.

Weakness:

Majority of the camera is plastic but what do you expect for this entry-level camera.

After years of lugging around my manual focus camera on vacation trips, I decided this year to get an inexpensive autofocus system with a built-in flash to lug around that I can afford to lose without killing myself. I bought the Rebel Xs model and took it on a vacation trip. To my surprise, out of the 14 rolls I shot on that trip, all of the shots came out with great results as far as image quality. I shot 99.9% in the program mode and the camera did very well with the metering under all kinds of lighting conditions. I must say that it is comparable to as my EOS-1 metering capability if used properly. Mount a good Canon EF lens on this body and you can expect very good results. I am very happy with the Rebel Xs and would recommend it to anyone who might be interested in it.

Strength:

Light weight, easy to use, whether or not you want to point and shoot or use some of the options that are available at a great price.

Weakness:

Not overwhelmed with the built in flash, but other than that, it's hard to find fault for this level of camera.

Great all around camera, whether you are a casual photographer or you want a dependable backup. The only pictures that have been unacceptable with this camera were cockpit error and not the fault of the camera.

Strength:

extreamly lightweight and durable, and its oh so light to carry around.

Take this camera, a 50mm 1.8 EF lens loaded with 800 print film. and it becomes a beautiful, discreet avaible light camera. cheap too - the 50mm lens is $50~75 (try to find the maodel with the metal mount, much better in build quality, every Photographer needs one of these babies in his bag.)
and it has light price tag for such versility and durability

Weakness:

- Limited in metering (centerweighted), so there is little AE control in tricky lighting situations (but you can take a several pictures with +/- compensation to get it right)

-smalish grip, but I recommend the handgrip/mini tripod acessory(Grip GR-80 TP)

- Mine didn't come with flash, but hey, it is a lot lighter than the Rebel X/s

This camera can take some great pictures, ( I have taken some award winning photos with the RebelX and the humble 35-80mm EF) And its durable too, I'v seen N90's in moderate snowfall and in heavey rain lockup and I can keep shooting.

sence then, I got an ElaneIIE body, but I keep the RebelX at my side and I always have it loaded with different film. It has also become a camera I use without fear in cautious situations.

Strength:

PRICE, PRICE, PRICE! I bought the EOS 3000 model (EOS 88) in a package with a Canon 38-76 lens, and a Canon 80-200 lens for less than a new Rebel 2000 body alone! Very lightweight, and easy to use. No problems with anything yet--hopefully never will.

Weakness:

Plastic body is cheap feeling. Also, battery cover seems flimsy-like it would break off after opening several times. Pop up flash is nice, but also feels like it could break off very easily. Overall--I can't complain much for the price that I paid.

For the price, it can't be beat. The EOS 88/3000 is a European only model that can be found for sale in the US if you look for it. E-mail me, and I will let you know where to pick one up. Great first Auto-focus SLR for the beginner.

Strength:

Light, durable, and reliable. I am a yearbook photographer, and beat this camera around in school, at sports events, and during special activities. Has never failed me once.

Weakness:

Died on me once when 5 minutes earlier it had metered my batteries as full. No idea why. 35-80 lens is not supposed to be good, but has worked with great sharpness for me.

Excellent camera for the money. Am upgrading to an Elan II in the near future, but will continue to use this body as a backup/bang around camera. A little weak in autofocus, and I would really like to have autobracketing, but has all the features for a beginner or amateur photographer. Buy it as a starter or play camera/backup.

Strength:

As my first SLR, this camera has been very easy to operate and I have taken some very good pictures with it. My wife, who is not into photography as much as I, loves all the automated features which make it about as easy to use as a point and shoot.

Weakness:

I wish it had auto-bracketing and maybe a little better AE system. But for the price, still a good deal without.

This is a great camera for those thinking about getting into photography. If you enjoy it, great. You'll probably still enjoy using it after you've bought more expensive gear. If you find out photography isn't for you, at least you didn't spend $1500 for a nice paperweight.

Strength:

This review is for a Rebel S II
-----------------------------------
-Extremely light
-EOS compatibility
-Simply to use (except the spot meter)
-1/2 stop shutter and aperature increments (my K1000 had full stops)

Weakness:

-No cable shutter release or remote
-Secondary buttons on camera back are a pain. They are very difficult to push at the same time as the control dial. Spot metering is nearly impossible!
-You can't turn off the annoying electronic songs played during the self timer countdown.
-No DOF review

This camera is your basic, not-to-many frills, AF SLR. It has served my well for about 5 yrs. No problems. Very good for people who want a little bit of photography control, but not too much.
So it is a good starter SLR.

The big thing I miss from my K1000 is the lack of cable release.

However I have outgrown this camera, and am going to get a Elan IIe.
