Strength:

Fairly easy to use

Weakness:

Manual setting tends to be cumbersome.

Great value, great product, and dependable company. For basic picture taking it's great and works best with a 70-210mm lens. For a more creative approach I wouldn't recommend it. Once you've taken a photography class you'll want a more sophisticated product

Strength:

-It does what it is supposed to do, take pictures.

Weakness:

-Many
-Like the Rebel G it is a glorified P&S
-Slow, loud, cheap build

I used this when I forgot my own camera and my aunt gave this to me to use on a hike. The Tamron lens she had on it was fun to use, and the camera worked. IT didn't do much more than that though. I decided to put it on manual after a while as I could focus and meter by eye faster tha the camera. It really is just a point & shoot with a few useless features or useful features that don't work like they should.

While it is cheap, it should be, it won't do that much for you except hold your film and make you feel more important than with a P&S. This is only for the VERY causal picture taker, or "picher" taker, who takes the odd photo at the family gatherings. But you probably aren't one of those people if you are here, so scratch this one off your list.

It will work, and it will take pictures, but it won't grow with you and you have probably have already out-grown what it can do for you (as long as you have taken a picture before). Save your money for a Elan IIe or a 7e.

Good picture taking! (but with another camera)

Strength:

user friendly- easy to figure out without reading the manual.
durable- taken on MANY backpack trips and survived unscathed. takes excellent pictures indoor and outdoor.

Weakness:

my friend with larger hands said it was hard to use. (i think he's just jealous cause i take better pictures than him :)

i got this camera as a beginner and used the point and shoot aspect most of the time. as i got more comfortable with it, i started using the manual settings after learning what aperture/shutter speed works best for the conditions. i thought it was a great way to learn about photography. now i just use the automatic mode when i don't have time to make all of the adjustments.

Strength:

Great value for money
(Still available in Australia)
Quick and easy to use
Quiet autofocus

Weakness:

Inbuilt flash a waste effort.
To much plastic but no worse thanCanons more expensive models or
any other brand for that matter.

As well as being a Wedding Photographer I also work in a camera shop
so I get to see a lot of cameras. When the EOS 500 is coupled up to
AA battery pack, a Canon Speedlight Flash, a 35-135 USM Zoom lens
and a decent grip it becomes a versatile, well equiped little camera
The features on this camera will handle any photographic situation
and thats what photography is all about, dont be hoodwinked into buying
snob value cameras with features that you will never use

Customer Service

The beauty of these cameras is
that it is un-economical to fix butcheap to replace, I have never
had to use customer service.

Strength:

It is lightweight and easy to carry around. Good first camera. Easy to focus. Easy to learn how to use.

Weakness:

Switch seems to make it's way on when it is in the bag..??...
I have had many technical problems with it.
Metering is very hard to use. +/-
Also, flash has stopped working and I have had the camera for a little over a year.
Uses up batteries like crazy.

I would not recommend. I have had so many problems with it.

i am glad i bought this as my first camera. I still use it. and probably will until I graduate from college and can afford a newer and higher end model. It will be nice to use some of my same lenses with a newer canon

A versatile camera with good features. Several portrait modes for the beginner to experiment with. Easily assembled and not too bulky.

This camera is great for a novice photographer like myself. It's a great tool to start out on. I know folks who own much higher end cameras and they still go back to the EOS Rebel X for certain photos. Lots of features and a great value for the money. This camera is not just for taking pictures at Aunt Berthas birthday party. With a 100 speed film and a little light, you can take some dynamic landscape portraits. A great value! Lots of accessories for this camera, also. This camera is capable of growing with it's owner.
