Strength:

Good camera to start with. The viewfinder is great, although it lacks complete exposure info (exposure time is missing): bright and big, makes it easy to focus manually and keeps up until f 5.6.

Weakness:

Lack of full exposure info in the viewfinder, lack of AE mode. When on tripod, vibrations from the mirror may make the whole camera shake a bit...

If you like it and find one, buy it. Thew truth is, though, that the market now offers cameras packed with more features...

Customer Service

Never had to call Canon. The camera has always worked perfectly and I think I've taken something like 100K+ pirctures with it...

This was actually my first camera! A few years later followed by a Canon AE1 and finally by a Contax G2 (cool optics!) but, now that I'm in my thirties, I still have the T70 taking picture after 15 years of service!

Strength:

-- Ease of use
-- Reliability
-- Compatibility

Weakness:

-- Lense ring comes loose
-- Metering system fooled in lighting special situations.

This was my first camera I got about 3 years ago (used, obviously) and has been a pretty good one for an amateur photographer. For casual to semi-high quality photos, I would recommend looking for one. In fact, I am upgrading to another Canon model, and if anyone wants to buy mine, of which is perfect condition, please email me.

Strength:

simplicity, motor wind, comfortable grip, partial/spot(AE-L) setting, manual shutter speed setting, aperature reading in viewfinder, 10-second self timer

Weakness:

lack of shutter speed reading in viewfinder, lack of manual aperature priority setting, lack of depth-of-field preview, fastest shutter speed of 1/1000 is slow compared to 'todays' cameras - although I have never had a problem with any blur in my pictures when trying to freeze action

This is the camera that I "upgraded" to from the AE-1. It offers 3 automatic shutter/aperature setting {program(full auto), wide, and tele} with wide as an automatic 'aperature priority' although you can not set the aperature value yourself, and the 'tele' for automatic shutter speed priority that you can not set yourself. There is, however, a shutter priority mode for manual settings from 2" all the way up to 1/1000 and also the 'bulb' setting for manual-timed exposures. For me, this is a solid camera body that has been at my side whenever I go out, and I will also use as a back-up when I upgrade to either the Elan IIe or ELan 7. The only reason why I am going to go to the Elan series from Canon is for the autofocus features.

Strength:

Several program mode selections
Self timer
Can purchase many acessories

Weakness:

No aperature priority
Display not easy to use

Its a very good beginner camera and has alot of features that come in handy if you are
unsure of all of the camera settings. The auto wind of film works great if you are not used to manual focus cameras that usually require manual winding.

Strength:

Easy, reliable camera. This was my first camera & I'm still using it & I love it. The self-timer is a great option.

Weakness:

Doesn't have the auto focus option. Auto winder is great but a little slow.

Great camera. Still looks good. Lots of accessory options. Easy to use. Reliable. I have drug this camera around with me everywhere and had it in the worst of weather conditions, in the sand, in the sun, neglected it for years, and through al my abuse and neglect, it still works wonderfully. I am only looking for a new camera for the auto-focus option. I will keep my T70 as a backup camera forever.

Customer Service

Never had a problem until recently when the metal lens ring became loose.

Strength:

Small, lightweight and quite ahead of its time. Popular shutter priority and useful program modes. Good system backup & quality FD Lenses, better than later EOS ones, more robust.

Weakness:

Motor drive a little slow, and always continuous, but at least it has one.

A good little electronic camera, excellent to learn with and a good second hand buy.
Recommended.

Strength:

Light weight, tough,AA batteries, simple controls, FD lenses, well sealed prism area.

Weakness:

Unobtainable electric cable release, silly beeps, time exposures difficult to make, lens mount loosened until I Loctited the screws, not much else.

Bought two T70's to take weight off while working in Asian photojournalism. Only time they let me down was when rioters stoned us and I bled into them, but an alcohol rinse for the cameras and a few stitches for me, and we covered the end of the day. My cameras obviously lead extremely rough lives, the T70's and A1's were the most reliable Canons I used. They remain equal or superior to almost anything around. But because of Canon's lack of support for older cameras and reports of dubious construction of new ones, I'm going back to Nikons. Never did quit using the Leica.

Customer Service

Haven't needed it. It is only 16 years old.

Strength:

Overall durability, TTL meter, price

Weakness:

-Viewfinder display does not show shutter speed
-Lens mount came loose twice until I glued the screws in place
-Limited flash options; no bounce flash; no off shoe flash capability
-No mirror lock
-No spot meter
-No depth of field preview
-No auto exposure bracketing
-No exposure compensation
-2" maximum auto shutter speed

I purchased this camera in 1986. It has been my constant companion as I have traveled widely with it and used it under a verity of conditions from desert to mountain peak. Aside from tightening the lens mount screws a couple of times, it has been extremely durable. It even survived being half buried in wet mud once. The owners manual says that the LCD would only last 5 years. It still works flawlessly.

Under most circumstances, the meter and auto exposure is dead on. The T70 performed well shooting a verity of subjects including landscape, weddings and portraiture.

While my list of weaknesses is long, for the money I still regard it as a great value. This was a great camera to learn on. But, this camera has two unforgivable weaknesses: 1. Not displaying the shutter speed through the viewfinder and 2. Limited flash options.

Now that I have upgraded to an EOS, I plan to keep my T70 as a back up, a roll that I think it is ideally suited for.

Strength:

Simple to use; partial metering; fairly reliable; compact yet solid; very low second-hand price now; great selection of cheap used FD optics; bright viewfinder-much easier to focus than the A1

Weakness:

No aperture value in viewfinder; lens mount ring loosens over time; long shutter lag which is potentially frustrating when capturing spontaneous moments

Very good camera at a low price. Bought in 1985 it was my first proper camera which I still take when I go on holiday (lighter than my T90 but still have sufficient features). Shutter priorty easy to get used to hence lack of aperture reading in viewfinder not such a serious problem. Would consider getting a replacement should my present one kicks the bucket!

Customer Service

Used it once when camera went dead 2 years after purchase from new - efficient but at a price
