Strength:

Usability, metering accuracy, motor drive speed, best viewfinder of ALL 35mm cameras (ultra bright even with DOF engaged! and 100% coverage), buit-in flash, film data record, roughness, custom functions, fast autofocus, unlimited multi exposure, mirror pre-lock, fast handling

Weakness:

Sometimes program dial move without notice, heavy!, autofocus not top of the end compared to canon for example, heavy!, not showing metering mode in the viewfinder, lousy and weird DOF preview, heavy!, could be less loudly (mirror flip)

I Love Minolta cameras, always the best, the glasses are excellent but really a bit dated in terms of tecnology, my dream system would be a Minolta camera with the solid caracteristics of the 9, lenses with ultra sony motors (rumours are Minolta are working on it!) and IS like Canon, and the features of the 7 (like the autofocus speed, back lcd, DOF funcionality): a Dynax 8??? :)

Customer Service

Never used, but i have the feeling that its not a great thing here in Portugal, but can be wrong.

Strength:

Outstanding construction and metering. Often I have bracketed in tricky lighting to find the metered exposure was correct. I love Minolta glass, if you buy the good stuff that is. Only pipped by Canon and that is almost impossible to recognize and a mile ahead of Nikon...

Weakness:

Autofocus not quite as brilliant as I expected. Very capable with the right lens but I guess I expected better.

Outstanding camera with great lenses on offer. If you need lightening autofocus then it might not be for you but apart from that I can find no weaknesses and many pluses, the biggest being the metering which is virtually unfoolable...Nice one!!

Strength:

Intuitive control layout, tok me two minutes flat to figure out every function except custom settings. Body construction on par with Nikon F5 and Canon EOS 1V. True pro camera with 100% viewfinder and first-rate metering and AF system

Weakness:

Heavy!!! Iuse this thing with a VC-9 grip and the AF 28-70 f/2.8G lens and my forearms have gotten a lot bigger...MInolta needs to close the AF gap with its competitors by coming up with lensdriven AF like Canon USM/Nikon AF-S...

No frills, no fancy doo-dads, no BS...This is a camera designed for "nuts-and-bolts" working photographers, not camera technophobes. Sure, it won't elicit ooohs and aaaahs like Nikon and Canon, but it is a simple no-nonsense pro rig that gets the job done, period! And the notion that Minolta glass is inferior is RUBBISH!!! FRom experience, I can attest to Minolta's optical quailty, the G-Lens series is comparable to to very best pro optics that Canon and Nikon make.

Customer Service

Sent camera in to fix PC terminal, Came back in one week flat! Great customer support!!!

Strength:

ease of use - I love user friendly control knobs as opposed to the setup on the 700si. very comfortable to hold despite the weight

Weakness:

Weight
DOF preview button

I recently returned from a 3 week trip to Alaska (cruise and land touring.) I purchased the Maxxum 9 just one week prior to the trip, so I was able to only shoot one roll of film prior to trip. I did take my 700si for backup. I shot over 50 rolls of Fuji/Kodak during the trip. I just picked up the photos yesterday and what a surprise!!! The colors were fantastic - I shot in both the P and M mode. The built-in flash was adequate for the "snapshot" photos taken on the cruiseship. I also used a 5400HS flash with wonderful results. I got some wonderful hand-held photos of sea lions and puffins off the coast of Alaska. definitely glad I bought this model!!! Now that I'm home, I can't wait to play with the programmable features and flash setups. Great camera!!

Strength:

This camera is built like a tank. It was very easy to fall in love with this camera. Holding this camera body in my hand is like having a baby soft leather glove on.

Weakness:

No

This camera is the best thing to happen to Minolta lovers, it's only a shame camera store sales people only have Nikon and Canon on their brains. I love this camera, it's simple to operate and you know it can take a licking and keep on ticking.

Customer Service

Minolta customer service? They don't know how to answer the phone or respond to any letters. Find a good camera repair store.

Strength:

Very solid contruction, great ease of use, extensive features. The AF and metering are great, and the new flash metering is spot on. Wireless flash and flash sync to 1/12,000th are additional goodies that make this camera to rank.

Weakness:

It's kinda heavy if you're used to lesser SLRs. No metering mode 9spot, center qwieght, matrix) indicator in the finder - minor niggle.

Minolta really got it right on this one. Fantastic camera.

Strength:

It's a products where Minolta combined the best parts from all their previous produts as well as introduced some new features. It's extremely rugged, has a very accurate metering system, AF is very fast, flash exposure is EXTREMELY good, the controls are intuitive and the custom functions are useful. The vertical grip is the best ever produced. Built-in flash gives you the ability to use wireless flash without hassle.

Weakness:

Well, when you drop it, the paint may get some scratches, and it will be a really big hole in the ground...
Otherwise, complaints are more like "it maybe would be nice to have it done this way instead", meaning that it's more of personal preferences than anything else.

This is one great camera. It's a beautifully crafted professional tool, without gimmicky so-called "features" which won't work or will work erratically. AND it uses the same metering systems as many other current Minolta cameras (except the lowest-end models), which means that you won't have to relearn the metering system for different camera models (hello Canon). IMNERHO the most attractive camera on the market today.

Customer Service

OK.

Strength:

Handling easy, simple controls, I have one with the vertical attachment and the extra weight just makes it feel better in the hand.It is build very strong and is a camera that any pro/or tyro can get to love in a short time. It can be personalized with its 21 custom features, the shutter release as opposed to focus release priority is a dream to work with.

Weakness:

none at all- I dropped it accidently once and damaged a lense but the camera came through unscathed

There are many 35mm cameras to chose from, this camera with a cashe of assorted lenses will equal or best anything in its price range and many times exceed performance of the posh grade 35mm'SLR's

Customer Service

never used= but sure Minolta will stand securely behind this flagship in their line
