Strength:

It is cheap! -cheap enough that I have three from the past ten years.
It has both manual shutter and manual aperature control.
After more than 10 years of use, I just had a bike accident last week that sent my Minolta X-370 into the pavement. It did not get a scratch, but I had to tighten up the screws on the lens elements. I like the red, lit display for work in dim light.

Weakness:

To use a flash with a cord, you might have to get a special adapter for the shoe-mount.
One X-370 I bought for a friend, and someone else liked it so much that it was stolen.
It is only 35mm and not a larger format.

It is the only camera that I really use on
a regular basis. I would recommend it to any beginner. It is the photographer who takes the pictures. I think, I would only change if I won a million dollars, if I became a spy and needed something smaller and silent, if I really had to take that one photo with special requirements over and over, if I was given a Nikon F5 with a full set of those expensive lenses, if Kodak and Fuji stopped making real film for real photographers, or if I decide to go to a larger format than 35mm. The X-370 is a great box!

Customer Service

If it has ever needed service, I fixed it myself. (Occasionally, I tighten up the rewind axle-screw.)

Strength:

Stable body good control acess

Weakness:

Poor view find information displayed. Under low light conditions you can not tell what your shutter speed is set too. The Eye piece is not as confortable. Support for lens and flash have changed on later lines so a person will most likely have to look for used components.

Camera is a basic Manual camera with no Auto focus. this camera is not state of the art an mine failed with a CPUI failure after approxiamtely 10 rolls of 24.

Strength:

Very durable body, I have had mine since 1987. It has been in the heat and humidity of Florida and the cold and wetness of Upstate New York.

Weakness:

None

My x370 was a great body. When I could no longer fix it, I upgraded to the x700 only because I was able to get that body in time for a trip. I enjoyed the x370 so much I bought one for my sister years ago and she still uses it.

Customer Service

I have done all the repairs on my X370, so I wouldn't know of the customer service.

I also have a Minolta X700 and Maxxum 7000i. The x700 is a good upgrade, in the fully manual category.

Strength:

Nice weight. Easy to use controls. Good metering.

Weakness:

None.

This is the little brother to the x700. Great controls, good metering, easy film handling.

I bought it specifically to do landscapes, but got rid of it when I decided to do the landscapes in medium format.

Never had a problem with it, it feels good in the hands, and the viewfinder is nice and bright.

These bodies can be had cheaply used, and are well worth it. I prefer AF for most everything, so will stick with my Maxxum cameras for 35mm and my TLR"s for landscapes.

Customer Service

Good e-mail support. Never needed anything else.

Strength:

Indestructible! Reliable! Battery lasts forever!

Weakness:

My first camera, and I'm still loving it 13 years later. Compared to my 800si it is light and small, which makes a nice change. I have dropped it many times (even in salt water) and backpacked with it for over a year: from the Namib desert during 50 degree celsius heat, to the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro (20 000 feet) and Antarctica (-22 degrees celsius) - it never broke down and always worked perfectly.

Weakness:

must load film perfectly or else...

I couldn't break this camera if I wanted to. I dropped it in 2 rivers, fell in one more with it, dropped it off a cliff, and it has been stepped on by a big horn sheep. 6 years later it still takes pictures like its brand new. I use it for indoor, wildlife, sports, still, fine art, and astrophotography. It makes a wonderful camera for special occasians. It significantly out performed perfessional cameras at two weddings(migh have been the photographer).

Bought it on an impulse, best 100 bucks I ever spent.

Strength:

Metering, lit display, ease of use, adaptive to various situations/weather.

Weakness:

A little heavy after several miles of hiking
No depth of field preview
Probably not a good camera for equip. hounds that need "the best".

Such a great camera for such a low price, had mine for 15+ years and still going strong, wish I could find a cable release for it and a decent telephoto zoom without needing an adapter. I've taken award winning (seriously!) shots and used it for all of my nature shoots, archival work, etc. So easy to use, kids should get one to learn on.

If you have a battery of older Minolta lenses and want to retire your SRT this is a good camera. It's also a good camera for a beginning photographer or a more experienced one who doesn't like the new cameras.
