Konica Minolta X-700 35mm SLRs

Konica Minolta X-700 35mm SLRs

DESCRIPTION

Minolta's X-700 is a perfect combination of sophistication and simplicity. In P mode, the camera selects both the shutter and aperture for the correct exposure, so all you have to do is focus and shoot. But if you want to take over, there's aperture-priority exposure control and full metered manual exposure control right at your fingertips.

Casual

Strength:

Easy to use, handles abuse well

Weakness:

only lasted 19 years............

A casual photographer I bought the X700 when it was first launched. The first body lasted 19 years of harsh treatment so I''ve just bought another body as I have an MD1 and 280PX flash - Why buy another make with equipment this good? Its dead easy to use, very versatile and takes some punishment while producing excellent photos Deserves 10 stars overall!

Customer Service

never used it - wanted £85 to just look at it!!

Strength:

Just a great camera. Reliable, Lenses and accessories readily available at cheap prices. Accurate metering. DOF preview is nice.

Weakness:

The only one I can think of is its higher shutter speed is only 1/1000, which is fine for what I do.

Even though it doesn't have "Nikon" or something printed on it, I consider the x700 a pro-quality camera. In fact, I think the x700 is better, just because you can get really good lenses for pretty inexpensive prices. And there are some great optics for this camera, too, believe me. The features and reliability of the x700 stacks up with any camera of its type. That's my opinion. In short, a beginner can afford this camera and get something that they will love, even when being a beginner is a distant memory.

Strength:

Great features for the price. Dependable and near bullet proof>

Weakness:

None really.

This is a great manual camera. The only manual I like better might be the older Minoltas or the Contax. But, for the money this is a great camera for beginners who want to really be able to grow in skill level without having to spend a fortune on a "better" camera.

Strength:

Very rugged, excellent optics, the P mode is great for when I want to just point and shoot. The meter is accurate as are the shutter speeds.

Weakness:

No mirror lockup. No A/F (but I hate A/F anyway). No shutter priority. Flash sync is low at 1/60.

This is my favourite camera. I work in 35 mm, medium format, and large format. I take this camera with me as a backup when using other formats. I also take it with me when I just want to take 35 mm. This is my third x-700. The first was stolen, the second is at the bottom of Lake Ontario. If this one kicks the bucket, I will get another one!

Customer Service

I had the shutter overhauled 3 months ago after 13 years of service. No problems before. Fine now after 3 months and 140 rolls of film.

Strength:

Rugged, versatile performer that doesn't whine and doesn't need babying.

Weakness:

Slow top end shutter speed, no mirror lock-up. (No A/F,but thats not an issue with me)

I bought this camera in 1984 along with a MD 1.4 50mm lense. Throught the years I added a Hanimex 35-200 zoom and a 2.8 24mm. In 1994 I purchased a used motor drive. This camera has performed like a champ. I've always called it the "poor man's Nikon" because it seemed to do just about everything that the F3 did. Well, not everything, but close! It's been dropped a few times with no effect and still performs as the day I bought it.

Customer Service

Needed once in 1985 when a retainer ring from the shutter came off. Thats it.

Strength:

Very rugged, I've dropped it more than once, and it's still just fine. The wide range of lenses available means you always have more things to spend your money on.

Weakness:

lacks shutter-priority auto mode, and isn't auto focus.

you can't get pictures of anything super fast (hummingbird in flight) due to the 1/1000 shutter speed max.

not auto-focus.

other than that, none.

Its great. It won't due ALL the work for you, but it'll due most of the trully tedious. Great camera to start into serious photography with, as it is easily expandable with new lenses and can take just about any picture you're after.

Strength:

This is an awesome camera. My pictures always turn out awesome thanks to the P mode. I use it to photograph portraits as well as scenery. Well built camera.

Weakness:

I have had to take this camera to get repaired 3 times. That is somewhat of a concern to me. I have been looking into purchasing another camers due to this inconvience.

Overall this is a great camera. I love the quality and outcome I get with it. I take black and white and develop them myself for otehr people. It is just the repairing that bothers me.

Strength:

Good solid camera that will stand up to many years of use

Weakness:

Some would consider no auto focus a weakness, although I do not.

The X-700 is a very reliable camera that takes great pictures. Many accessories are available at great prices in the used market. I would highly recommend this camera to anyone.

Strength:

Easy manual focusing. Reliability ( I fell into a fetid pool in Versailles, snd it works perfectly). Very good 50mm lens, exposure lock, everything but focusing can be either manual or automatic. Good flash for it's time. Plenty of lenses. My dad and I pictured whole Europe with it. Came out superb!

Weakness:

No AF. Flash has no red eye reduction.

Excellent manual 35mm. Best of manuals.

Customer Service

Unneeded. Although Golden Camera in Israel can fix it. It's too old for the company's rep. in Isreal.

Model Reviewed: X-700

Strength:

It's metering system is fairly accurate but you do have to remember to look at your picture and compensate if necessary. I usually have it in aperture-priority and it does a very good job. The lenses I have for it are very sharp.

Weakness:

Nothing really-unless you need an AF camera, this should do fine.

I'd recommend this camera, no questions about it. Unless you need a fast AF camera, this shoud suffice. Also, this camera allows you to learn the basics of photography.

Customer Service

never needed (knock on wood)
