Strength:

All of the features vs. the price.

Weakness:

No depth of field preview. Oh Well!

Compared to the Canon & Nikon models in it's class it is the biggest bang for the buck. I don't understand why people are commenting about the autofocus. I have yet to have it misfocus and I don't know how much faster you want it to focus. Compared side by side with Canon's and Nikon's AF speed it's a wash. Nice over all product with a lot of features. It's definitely the best built camera in the lower price models of Minolta. The STsi and QTsi are not built nearly as well at least from the feel of them. Still not built like the Minolta's of 10 years ago though. I'd purchase this camera again.

Strength:

Outstanding metering, Spot, AF lock, built in function and eye start. Best money can buy.

Weakness:

Plastic Body but still have metal mount

Just bought the camera in Auction. At first, I underestimate this camera due to its size (very small) and plastic feeling. I have change of opinion after get the first roll. The metering is just outstanding, better than more expensive Minolta 800si. All the picture clear, nice color, and AF is good. It the best money can buy, avoid the cheaper one like qtsi or htsi, they came with plastic mount, this one is metal mount.

Strength:

I decided on this camera for two main reasons: I wanted to upgrade from my 3xi and I wanted a camera that allowed me to use a remote shutter release. I had been told the xtsi was one of the few lower-end Minolta cameras that would fulfill my needs. When I got the camera I was pleasantly surprised at just how versatile this camera is.

Again, I was most familiar with the 3xi which is archaic compared to this model. The number of features blew me away. I've enjoyed using the continuous shutter release and experimenting with the various subject program selections. Normally, I'd prefer to use my own settings, but I was impressed with how well the pre-programmed setting worked.

As multi-faceted as this camera is, I found it fairly easy to learn to use and to navigate.

I'd have to say, what I'm most impressed with is how fast the autofocus is and how quickly the flash charges. I want to delve into photojournalism and I am confident this camera will be useful in getting started with it.

I really love this camera.

Weakness:

I was surprised at how much more plastic than metal this camera was. I have to wonder how sturdy it will be. Time will tell, I suppose.

Also, I was planning on using my five year-old Vivtar detachable flash on this camera. When I tried, it didn't work. I'm told by my local camera store I could probably get a newer Vivtar flash that will work. If it doesn't I'll be pissed. I do not want to believe the manual--that only Minolta flashes can be used with this model. Minolta flashes are way too expensive.

If you're working your way up (and into) your photography skills and you're wanting to get a good-quality camera that isn't intimidating, this is the one to look at. I'm sure as time passes, I'll become more critical of this camera, but right now, I have to admit, this camera has got me excited about photography again.

Customer Service

I contacted Minolta several times before I decided to get this camera. I also called a few times after I got it. Each time the customer service rep was knowledgeable and helpful and always gave me more information than I needed. I was pleased. (Keep in mind, I contacted the Minolta's Canadian customer service.)

Strength:

tons of features

Weakness:

No DOF preview

It's better than QT(trash), 2% better than HT plus.
Better than Nicon, Conon same price products. But if you plan purchuse more lenses and filters, you may end up paying more. Because their lens size from 55 to 62. I like Canon Elan II. They have same size lense. I only need to buy a sets of filters. Those lense may even fit on my future canon digital camera(SLR type).Agree or disagree?

Strength:

A lot of features
Solid construction

Weakness:

Slow AF
No DOF preview
No program shift

This is a excellent camera. Bought it because it feels much more solid and well constructed in my hands. The EOS 300's grip was too small and felt much cheaper. I guess it should be a case of whether you want a better camera now or if you want more options when upgrading later, not that Minolta is that limited in terms of upgrading, the Maxxum 7 seems *wow*. I have not regretted buying this camera.

Owner's Manuel

Excellent SLR Camera for Newbies to Amatuer's. The many functions which allows one to advance at ones own pace and not worry about outgrowing The Camera for years to come is a Major Plus.
Panorama Mode is Really Outstanding to Amatuers Who's Creativity is Unlimited. Panorama + Manuel Aperture tweak + Manuel Shutter tweak = Creativity at its best.
For the User Manuel, its not the best but you can take full advantage of it by combining it with the "Magic Lantern Guide" for the X. This Procedure will cover the Camera's function and give better insight on Photographers terminology. Once again, Excellent for beginners and Amatuers Photograhers. I've had many comparisons done and for the money and many features, the X Stumps a Mudhole into the other SLR's in its class... N60, N65, Eos Rebel 2000, Etc...

This is a lovely camera, it really is. It just that is´s so small and some buttons are difficult to press. I prefer my older 5xi for that matter.

Strength:

Well built camera for the money. Offers a fast shutter speed 1/4000. Honeycomb metering, spot meter, decent structure. The on/off switch is right where you need it. Great for beginners to learn off of; it is a camera even the most advanced people can use. The flash within the camera is near pro level.

Weakness:

It goes through batteries fairly fast. The autofocus has a tendancy to take over when in manual focus mode.

This is a great product, it has never let me down and I have produced many incredible pictures. Don't turn away from it merely because it looks like a lil' kiddy camera. You have to look beyond that this camera weights in at only 14 oz and also comes packed with features. I all ways keep this one in my camera bga.

Customer Service

Never needed it once. Camera is very dependable. Even in snow & rain.
