Since this happens to be the first manual camera I've ever owned, I'm afraid I can't go on about it's superior features and strengths.
However, I can attest to it's incredible durability. I've lugged this camera to the top of many mountains and I've used it to photography many ice climbs (which involve many soakers and/or -30C temperatures). I never even bothered to put this camera in a protective case ! I simply shoved it into the top of my pack - which in turn was tossed from the top of icefalls, hauled up a (400m) mountain slope, etc. and it's even taken it's share of falls on rock, ice, mud, etc.
Yes... a lot of this abuse is unjustified... but I'm glad to say that it still takes great pictures to this day. :)

Strength:

It is the archtype for the 35mm SLR camera. Intimate, supple, accurate, durable.

Weakness:

Dropped one on its' prism in front of a CEO once.

Recommended for anyone serious about film photography and its basic priciples who doesn't need the systems provided by the F1-5 or N series cameras

Strength:

I've found the FM2n to be simply superb for many subjects, from architecture to street photography and even young (i.e. moving) children. The mechanical nature of the camera makes it totally reliable in extreme conditions. The manual control with center-weighted metering is set-up to facilitate fast yet creative control over exposure.

Weakness:

None

A great general purpose camera for the creatively mobile photographer.

Customer Service

I've never needed it serviced!

Strength:

The FM2 is by far the most rugged and simple but flexible camera I have ever owned. A strong point is that the FM2 can use AF glass eliminating the need for two sets of lenses in the same range.

Weakness:

The FM2 is simply simple and ruggen and this one has taken several hits surprisingly undamaged over the year even maintaining accuracy in all respects.

The FM2 remains the best value in an SLR in any case, and is highly recommended for everyone from beginner to professional alike. The longevity of the FM2 is unmatched in the world of photography, and the camera is a great experience to own. The FM2 will operate in any conditions, even without battery power as a rare and welcome plus. I have used dozens of cameras and I choose an FM2 over any camera available. I will always feel and know that the FM2 will continue to be THE camera of choice that will never let me down in any situation and will always be capable of providing an absolutely premium shot in the most demanding of circumstances. The FM2 is simply the best value of any camera ever manufactured.

Strength:

I have been using the Nikon FM2n for about 15 years. The camera has performed flawlessly. It is a solid, reliable camera that is easy to use.

Weakness:

It would be perfect if it had a larger viewfinder.
New ones are somewhat pricey.

One great camera.

Customer Service

The camera gets CLA by an independant repair facility.

Strength:

The FM2 is the most reliable and simple to use camera I have ever owned. I think the thing I like most is the fact that it will function with out batteries.

Weakness:

The split image focusing screen can't be used easily with zooms. Fixed that with the B-2 matte screen though.

The FM2 is the best camera I've ever owned nothing will replace it. The Leica M6 can't compete with it's ease of use and low cost. This camera has helped me make my favorite photographs especially with my 50mm 1.8.

Strength:

Dependability and durability. My FM2 is nearly 10 years old and still going strong.

Weakness:

One time the shutter speed and ASA selector began to turn in unison. The repair man told me that it was stuck together with a brown, sticky syrup. Apparently 5 years of covering beer festivals finally got to it. Other than that...perfect.

Can't be beat.

Customer Service

Not an issue.

Strength:

It is a great manual camera and no other model came close in beating it.The beauty and the durability of the FM2 is just superb and it worth its price tag. Drop once but it still function like new.

Weakness:

Nil.

Most important of all the FM2 can use today AF lens, so photography can still be carry out using all this new lens. Moreover, the camera will never fail me as it does not required battery to operate. Hot or cold weather ,it will still works fine. The hard solid case of the FM2 can withstand any hard toture to it. The high shutter speed of 1/4000 and syn speed of 1/250 works just perfect. On top of that , it had a film speed up to 6400. So the Fm2 is the perfect camera for beginner as well as Pros..... Five stars to FM2

Strength:

Because its very easy to use. Its reliable. Many lenses are avaliable. Depth of field button allows to check depth of field.
Flash synch spped is 1/250, which helps a lot to get fill flash properly. Multiple exposure leaver allows to take two pictures on one frame. Very very smooth operative camera.
Does not needs battery except metering.
So one can use this for for taking photos of very very long exposures e.g. star trails.

Weakness:

No problem at all.
But it should have controlled time 'Self Timer' feature. e.g. 1-10 seconds.

A lightweight, powerful and reliable camera. Flash synch of 1/250 is highest amoungst similar models. Best camera to learn photography, as one surely loves this camera because of its simplicity and power. Even pros amoungst the world use it.

Simply a good tool. Dislike the plastic parts such as DOF lever, prism bridge and AIS coupling ring.
Nikon should change it's policy of cheapening product/production and support this widely beloved camera better than it's predecessors (note that spare parts for the original FM shutter are already no more awailable).
