Strength:
reliable easy to use easy on the wallet SLR makes a good 2nd body IT IS A NIKON
Weakness:
not much flexibility(see summary) hogs those expensive batteries-the N80 accepts an optional 4AA battery holder Had to settle for the quartz date model because Nikon just quit making the N60 and it was all I could find. It proved to be a reliable device. About 60 or 70 rolls were put through it in the 14 months I owned it. This replaced the Canon AE-1 I was using (still own it and it''s not for sale!!). For beginners or someone who is a casual photographer,it''s an excellent choice. When I got this camera,I got serious about photography. With the AE-1, I was just a casual photographer and did not realize that I had such a great tool in my hands. As I got more and more advanced, the N60 came up short quick. No DOF preview, no cable release capability, no multiple exposures. It does not allow flash exposure compensation, changing film speed from DX coding, and it will not autofocus lenses with HSM or silent wave focusing. It does not offer spot metering, and the only way to switch from center weighted from matrix is to use Manual mode. It takes great pictures and mine was very dependable, but if you think you may go deep into photography, a better choice is the N80(I own one now).If I could do it over again, I would get the N80 the first time around, or to save money, the FM-10 manual sure looks good for an inexpensive basic camera. Casual
Strength:
Strong body Comfortable Good ergonomics
Weakness:
I''m not fussed that I don''t have exposure bracketing, or multiple exposure, or depth of field preview. The only thing that disappoints me about this camera is that there is no cable release. I like this Camera a lot. With a good lens you will come out on top. I know that this model has been discontinued and the N65 put in its place, but the n60 is a worthwile addition second hand if you can find one cheap. I traded a Pentax MZ 50 for the Nikon and was really surprised by the difference. My pics came out better, and I now know what a good sturdy camera feels like. I feel that Nikon messed up with the n65 and n80...they should''ve been built more like the N60. I will always keep this camera, even when I upgrade to another camera (possibly N90) this one will be used as a reliable backup. Customer Service haven''t had to deal with Nikon...their products have worked flawlessly for me Similar Products Used: Pentax MZ 50 |

Beginner
Strength:
Easy to use. With the preset modes: Macro, Night, Sport, Portrait, Landscape and the program modes: Auto, Program, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and the manual mode. Anyone can take great photos by using them.
Weakness:
The body may be a little bit heavier than other cameras in its class. But I still like to have this sturdier body. Compared to Canon Rebel 2000, the features may be fewer than Canon''s. However, the quality delivered is comparable. The price of this camera is unbidable considering it delivers Nikon quality. I don''t know much about photography, however, I think the functions in this camera are enough for me. I believe that the manual settings in this camera will allow me to do more creative things in the future. Just my opinions. Customer Service Haven''t had this experience yet. Beginner
Strength:
Full P&S functionality
Weakness:
No remote shutter release (timer can be used in most cases) This is a great first SLR camera. It allows people like me who have only used P&S cameras to go to full auto mode when you must get a shot and then to use aperature or shutter priority or full manual to learn the craft of photography. The heft and build is far beyond any of the competitors in the price range which is more important to me that extra features that I don't know how to use. Beginner's won't be disapppointed, moderate to advanced users should look at higher models unless this is to be a backup body for Nikon lenses that they own already. Great camera for the money. Strength:
This camera is easy to use and produces beautiful pictures.
Weakness:
I wish the flash would pop up automarically when needed. I would also like a remote cable. A great camera for someone like me--I have a good eye and creativity, but lack the techical expertise to want to manually set the camera. I produce professional looking photos with this camera. Strength:
This camera is simple to use in the automatic mode, has a very good exposure system.I use it extensively for casual shooting with a 28-200 zoom.
Weakness:
Manual use of the camera is somewhat non-intuitive. Reasonable price of the camera contrasts with high cost of Nikon lenses. A good camera for someone who wants point and shoot simplicity in a Nikon SLR at reasonable price. Because it is intended to be used in auto mode it is not really convenient to use for extensive manual control, although that is available. Customer Service None needed. Strength:
Easy to use
Weakness:
Lacks a few features such as depth of field I bought this camera for my girlfriend as a birthday gift. She wanted to take up photography and I thought that this would be an excellent camera to start her off with. She was able to take pictures right away using the auto-mode with no difficulty. However, the lack of a couple of features such as depth of field preview, etc made me decide to return the camera and get a N 80 instead. I think that it would be difficult to expand the N 60 beyond fairly basic modes of operation. Don't mistake this review as a negative one, however. This is an excellent value for an SLR and allows the user the option of using a wide variety of Nikon lenses with it and it does provide excellent pictures. The autofocus is quite fast and works well in low light. The build quality is definitely better than Canon SLRs with the lens mount areas being made of metal as opposed to plastic. Casual
Strength:
Very intuitive and functional controls. Well engineered ergonomically. Great pictures with proper lense.
Weakness:
Would like to see Depth of Field in viewfinder and have have manual cable release. Otherwise a great camera value. A great camera value from Nikon. After seeing the N80 would have preferred it because of the DOF and manual shutter release, but for $150-200 less, this was a good buy. Similar Products Used: Canon EOS |
