Strength:

Most of the features of the F100 with extras like the grid lines

Weakness:

I guess you could say being made of plastic is a weakness but for the price what really do you expect. Full metal jacket, I don't think so.

Personally I think it's the best camera for the money. It's no F100 or F5 but then it doesn't cost that type of money either. I think for the money it's a great little camera, just one that needs to be looked after but then I look after my gear anyway

Strength:

-Depth preview
-Multiple exposures
-Cable release
-Lightweight
-AF capabilities
-Flash
-Ergonomic layout

Weakness:

None - Just buy better lenses than the 28-80 that is sold with the kit!

Easy camera to use - although the user manual is not as good as previous ones. Has all the features that I need to use for outdoor photography. Still use my F70 with its 3.7 fps for sports. Camera is not as sturdy as older Nikon models but then the construction is still good enough for my use. All the features that I used on my FE2 are included in the F80 plus all the new features that come with the AF era. Definitely a camera to get!

Strength:

Many features for this price. Comparable to F100.
Nice, friendly use, light.

Weakness:

Plastic made. Seems like a toy. Wonder what will happen when it gets hurted.
Switches does not seem professional

I like its profesisonal features. It seems that I've purchased an F100 at half price. Every single photographer will find an answer for their needs, from the beginner, to the advanced photographer.

Could not find a similar camera from other manufacturers at the same price. (Canon EOS50, Minolta 600?). F70 to be also considered, as the price is lower, and seems stronger than F80 (however, it's getting old...)

I love the philosophy 'one button, one function', even if this fills the camera of buttons. You can see most of the options you choose from the internal window.
Good camera and excellent price/functionallity ratio if you will not be using it as a hammer.

Strength:

Tons of features. Excellent value for what you get.

Weakness:

Tons of features (too many for me)
Autofocus light (especially in places that don't allow flash)

I have had the camera for 1 month, but have enjoyed it alot. I have shot about 20 rolls and the pictures have all been very good. I am still learning all of the features, custom controls etc., but leave in "P" mode most of the time. The autofocus light on the front to help in dim situations can be annoying at times. It can be turned off but when off can hamper the AF.

Strength:

Many features usually found only in higher-end models. Dynamic AF. DOF. standard cable release.

Weakness:

Mainly structural. I have read the previous comments on the subject, both pro and con. Yet I cant help feel this is likely a fragile construction. Also no metering for older Nikkor MF lenses. Then again, that may be a weakness only if one has a substantial investment in older lenses.

I wanted to get an AF Nikon for (sort of) everyday assignments: nothing too fancy or complicated. So in my rush to buy something I purchased the F60 initially and gave it a try. However the F60 had so many limitations, even for my relatively modest requirements, that I ended up returning the F60 (N60) and picking up the F80 (N80) instead. Also, I decided to forego the 28-80 lens that came with the kit in favour of the Nikkor AF28-105 f3.5-4.5D Zoom. The premium I ended up paying for the lens switch makes a great improvement well worth the price difference. The N80 metering system is a pleasure to use, and the lens is quite sharp at its middle apertures. I would certainly recommend this camera to the beginner who wants the most bang for the buck and a camera which s/he will not outgrow soon. For those reviewers knocking this camera, just remember this is no F100 or F5 and is priced to reflect that fact. In giving it a rating one must keep its quite amenable price in mind.
