Strength:

The N90s is a solid, all-around "pro-sumer" camera, wide range of accessories and lenses. It''s well suited for the experienced user, probably not best for a first SLR, but a decent emergency backup for Nikon''s Pro line.

Weakness:

Autofocus is slightly slow compared to some newer bodies.

I switched to the N90s after using all Konica FT-1 bodies and lenses for years. What a pleasant surprise! My mistake shots (out of focus, poor exposure, etc.) have dropped to about 1/2 of the previous level. Now, no camera can substitute for good composition, but a good camera can make sure you capture what you want, and by that standard, the N90s is a GOOD camera. I still bracket important shots, but the N90s has never given me a poor exposure. The autofocus is excellent, although with all autofocus, there is limitations (my first roll, learning the camera, included shots through water - so a reminder: autofocus can ONLY focus on the water surface...:]). Also, I shoot a lot of infrared, and unlike many other manufacturer''s cameras, the N90s does not fog infrared film with IR LEDs

Strength:

Uses normal AA size batteries which are easily available worldwide. Cheap, compared to other cameras in it''''s class. Accurate metering systems.

Weakness:

No mirror lock up. Controls take time to get used to.

Well, it is one of the most reliable cameras around. Accurate spot and center-weighted metering system. Rugged and heavy in construction, mine has been dropped twice and it still performs without any hiccups! Well, why complain about the heaviness??? That''''s what professional cameras are meant to be...well, comments on the heaviness of F90X are usually beginners, who will be better off getting "toy" cameras such as the F80 or Canon EOS30 or the likes. F80 doesn''''t feel like a "pro" camera as it is way too light...doesn''''t have that "solid" feel, though it has more features than the F90X. But well, who cares about the features? It''''s the basic features that carries out the picture taking process. Well, if you want additional features, than get the control back....and you will have the most perfect system! F100?? Well, it will cost a whopping $1000 more, well, it just isn''''t justified at all. Anytime, the F90X will still be my all time favourite, have no regrets since getting this baby! As for the controls, well, it is a matter of getting used to, once you mastered that, you will know that this camera delivers without a hitch and accurately!

Strength:

metering, body, grip, AA batteries ...

Weakness:

single spot autofocus, exposure and focus lock buttons,

Guys, of course the N90s doesn''t have what newer cameras have. But it''s an old folk. I guess compared to a F2 it''s even a light weight. The world is relative ... But I have had mine now for 4 years and excpet the occasional "strike of autofocus" it works very well. I believe the matrix and spot metering work great even in very difficult situations! The autofocus is kinda slow but my expectation wasn''t too high either. All together, it''s a nice camera but not worth to spend too much thinking about it. Dude, it''s a camera and not your wife''s a***. So, what''s the deal? Take care

Strength:

ruggedness, double AA batteries, feel in the hand

Weakness:

none worth mentioning, make sure you get the camera that meets your needs.

I found reading the various reviews quite amusing. It seems that most of the complaints come from the Intermediate folks. I really like the one where the reviewer likes the ruggedness of the camera but complains that it is too heavy. I have an FM2 as well and I do enjoy the simplicity but for those time where I don''t have time the F90X shines. Personally I like the heavy weight and double AA batteries. The weight make sthe camera feel substantial and the batteries can be found practically anywhere in the world. What''s this about switching to an N80, have you ever picked one up? I aslo found the comments about lack of features interesting, to me the 90 has almost toomany features. Anyone canb take pictures with a feature loaded camera, it takes a real photographer to get equal results without the gadgets like auto bracketing. Bottom line I really like this camera and have not found any problems with it. The features I want are there if I need them but I can also go fully manual which I do most of the time.

Strength:

Build quality, accuray AF and AE

Weakness:

Lack functions like multi-exposures.

I''ve been doing research when I decided to buy an electronic camera from Nikon. My first choice was N80, but after I grip it, I change my mind immediately. Then I make a comparison between N90s and F100, I chose N90s and no regrets about it. N90s is full of muscle! Although it lacks many features that N80 and F100 have, however, it performs the basic functions of a CAMERA extremely well! The AF is not super-fast, but you won''t mind if you''re a really experienced photographer. The light meter never fails. I can take a right exposure in a very dark conditions either by AE or manual. I''m going to get a MF-26 back to add more functions to this camera. I highly recommand this camera! It''s built like a tank, don''t fool by its plastic feel! N80 is light weight and has functions like multi-exposure that N90s lacks, but its build quality can''t be compared to N90s. The F100 is also a great camera, but compare the price, I''ll choose N90s which performs its functions perfectly. To summerize N90s in one sentence, it would be: a minimal camera which performs its ability in the purest way

Strength:

Focus speed and tracking, exposure accuracy, solid construction, intuitive control setup.

Weakness:

No program mode for MF lenses as is found on the F4.

Just dyn-O-mite. I have used this camera for all sorts of photos, and I cannot find a flaw. I looked at the F100, and it did "feel" a tad lighter, but the focus speed seemed about the same to this non-pro, and the five focus points aren''t spread much wider than the "wide area focus" area on the N90s. Maybe their are people out their who can find enough difference to justify the double price, but I can''t. I use my N90s raw, NO MB10 and NO databack. I use it with manual focus and auto focus lenses, and it seems to do everything extremely well, from exposure to handling ease. It is weighty, but I have become accustomed to it, and anything else, including the F100, feels cheap. Now I''m sure the F100 is a great camera, but believe me, the N90s is an absolute classic.

Eh...

Weakness:

Yes

Here's the deal. I have shot with only Nikon products since 1972; '72 Nikon F Photomic w/Nikon 50mm, '93 Nikon 6006 w/Nikon 28-70 zoom w/SB25 flash. I popped the flash on the 6006, and began shooting great, solid exposures immediately - right out of the box using Auto Priority mode!

I just bought the N90s, and the dealer talked me into buying the Tamaron compatiable zoom lens. This lens was made for the N90s - that's for sure. I set the camera to Auto Priority mode, put the Tamaron lens on it, and shot the worst, underexposed photos I have ever seen. I checked everything your thinking I should've checked, and all is set right. Even my aperature priority modes are a bit underexposed, and washed out. I hate underexposed!

I'm about to shoot some test shots using my old (stuck in the 70mm zoom mode Nikon lens) and see if the same thing happens. Could there be a conflict with the Tamaron lens?

My vibes told me to stay away from the Tamaron/Nikon combo.

Strength:

Rugged, fast auto focus, intuitive controls

Weakness:

I've found none so far

I had orderd the new N80. Had looked at the N90s.
As soon as I picked up the N80, I new I would not be satisfied with it, in spite of all the new features. The N90s just feels great and so I brought the N80 back and got the N90s. I love this camer. Whenever I pick it up, I have as sense of confidence. For the money, it is a great deal for the advanced amerature. I have shot several assignments with it and have loved using it.

Film rewinds all the way into the canistar

This is my favorite camera. I have beaten this thing up and never had a problem in the five years I have had it. My only complaint is the fact that the film rewind doesnt give you a leader so you cannot change rolls easily. I highly recommend this body especilly used
