I had this camera for over 2 years. I replaced my F3 because of the need of having a autofocus camera. If you can buy one of this babies you will enjoy it!

Strength:

Wonderful camera! The N90s took me from an intermediate photographer to a professional in less than a year. As long as you have good composition and a great flash like the SB28 you're half way there! The Nikon N90s has me "ate-up" with photography!

Weakness:

The only weekness I find is in myself...

It's not just a purchase, it's an investment that will pay for itself over and over with awesome pix.

Strength:

- grows with you, can add MB-10, MF-26, flash etc... as you need it.
- Nikon F-mount
- has all the features I need
- lightening fast AF and shutter

Weakness:

- have to have MF-26 for multiple exp. and/or _long_ exposure times (>30sec.)
- AF-lock hard to reach
- program modes suck

Excellent camera for me. I picked it up used for ~$700 about a year ago and they've only been getting cheaper. I use it with Nikkor 24mm/2.8, 50mm/1.4, and 80-200/2.8. It's given me some of the best pictures I've ever taken, so mission accomplished. The program modes are worthless, I mostly shoot aperature priority. AF is very fast. SB-28 makes this camera a bit bulky for candids, but an unbeatable combo for indoors.

thumbwrecking AEL

This is a definite upgrade from an N70, but most people will not take any better pictures with it. Very solid feeling with a nice solid click when you trip the shutter. Doesn't wiggle or sound loose. Not a pro camera due to its fumbling around for controls, but sturdy as a backup. Very strong motor torque for quick focussing with most lenses. In comparison to the F100- there is not comparision, it is a totally different camera in function and feel. Feels chunky and nice hard body coating- feels like it will last a long time. Would like a built in flash, like the N70 or A2E. Whilest playing with a F100 or similar Nikon bodies, you get the sense Nikon users have been in the dark while trying to focus and then recomposing (maybe like thousands of times a month). This is what makes the N series seem aging and archane- try doing all that on a tripod- it's wearing me out big time. Nikon lenses are my favorites, though. If you are not a pro, this durable camera can do more than you need, if you get the accompanying flash. A good deal since the F100 is out.

Strength:

This camera is built like a rock ! Mine bounced 4 m down from other rocks and still worked fine. Autofocus and 3D-metering are working OK but I never use them (I always work on manual for landscapes). For me, it is just a rugged Nikon-body with spot metering

Weakness:

The analog scale on Manual metering runs just from +1 to -1 stop, which is lousy for the Zone System. At first, I thought that the subdivision of shutter speeds in 1/3rd stops would be handy, but it works slow. Viewfinder information does not include metering system.

This is a great camera, but not for landscape photography, where motordrive and autofocusing speed and automated metering are not as important as in sports and journalistic photography. I think that I will trade mine in for the N80, which seems to have everything that the N90s is missing.

Strength:

Rugged, reliable, AF, Matrix metering, lense compatibility.

Weakness:

no mirror lockup, difficult ae lock, dof review.

This camera is the finest value available today. You can get first class glass, rugged body, and enough features to get results. Sure, you can give and take from it, but that is the case with any SLR out there. You can't lose with this camera.

Strength:

Always on the money. It does most of the thinking for me (maybe that's a weakness). Light, compact, tough, inexpensive.

Weakness:

Battery indicator stays at full until its completely empty. Rubber coating rubs off back easily. Too much emphasis placed on custom functions. Not as sturdy feeling as some of the more professional cameras (F5, F3HP).

Had a problem with the Photo Secretary. I was storing the shooting data internally and thought I downloaded info, but really hadn't. The camera ended up locking up on me. I was unable to do ANYTHING until all the data was downloaded. I got stuck.

Customer Service

Only used them in conjunction with the LS-2000 scanner. Knock on wood, I have never had to use them for my cameras. Great for the scanner, though.
