Strength:

Size, overall design

Weakness:

Zoom range is from wide angle to normal. Wide angle is equivalent to 29mm in a 35mm. Tele is equivalent to a 55 mm. I like the wide angle personally, but for others it might be a problem.

I like this camera. I have used a variety of cameras over the years and this is my current favorite. I take more pictures because it so much easy to carry along. I have cameras of various formats, they all have their place. For snapshots--this is it! I like the APS system, it is well thought out. I have found that biggest obstacle to photo quality is the LAB! Send your APS rolls to Kodak through Target stores, you can get a good price!

This is my second ixus they are great for a camera that you want for a point and shoot. Quality is great if you pay for it, cheap photo labs ruin anything, my other camera is a Leica R6.5

Strength:

Small, fits in pocket. Zoom. Mid roll change.

Weakness:

Picture quality is mediocre, but good considering size of camera.

It fits in your pocket, making it good for travel. If you just want some simple photos, this is a fun camera. The Minolta Freedom Zoom Explorer has much better pictures, but it is larger and uses 35mm film.

Strength:

The small size makes ELPH2 very convenient to carry. Lens is sharp.

Weakness:

I wish the zoom were a little longer. Lens can be distorting on either side (esp. when shooting people).

ELPH2 is the camera I like to carry, sometimes instead of my heavy 35mm EOS gear. I just went to the French riviera and shot 5 rolls in 3 days with ELPH2. I used both Kodak Advantix 100 and the (new-emulsion) Advantix 400 films and enjoyed MRC a lot. With Kodak Picture Processing (formerly Kodak Premium Processing), the pictures from the 100 films (i.e. during daylight) came back pretty sharp and colorful, even the ones in 'P' format.
Grains of the Advantix 100 are somewhat visible, but very tolerable. The pictures from the Advantix 400 films (i.e. evening/night) are not so bad either; grains are obvious only in the 'P' format.

I don't know why Kelly Lov below got a bad experience with this camera. IMO, the culprit is likely the lab that Kelly had the film processed & printed. I once sent my film to Walmart overnight APS processing, and it really sucked -- pictures came back blur and dull. Now I stick with Kodak Picture Processing which I have found to provide much more superior quality.

The last thing I want to say is that you need to familiarize yourself with any camera you just bought before you go taking serious pictures. I experimented various modes of ELPH2 for approx 3 rolls to understand the behaviors, characteristics, and limits of ELPH2. I had shot at least 10 rolls with ELPH2 before I brought it to France with me.

Strength:

Cute size, stainless steel, just perfect for traveling.

Weakness:

Quality just sucks and too costly.

I am so glad to have read the reviews on this camera. At least I found out that my camera isn't just blurry. True with what people say, this is cute. But that's just it. How about the quality of the picture? That is one of the other reason that I bought the camera. I was expecting APS to be like digital quality or something. Boy was I wrong. This camera really shoot terrible blurry pictures. My Olympus Stylus 115 35mm film develops way better clarity than this junk. And APS cost 3 times more than 35mm for the actual film and developing. I get to showoff my camera to friends but I never dare to show the pictures that was developed. What a shame? I am hoping and praying for them to have recalls on this cheap camera. For those who are thinking of getting an APS camera like everyone else? Don't get this camera. I will be selling this junk and going back to 35mm. Cost less and good quality.

Tiny size

Excellent build quality

Weakness:

APS !
Buttons are tiny, needing sharp nails or tool to operate

I wanted a carry everywhere camera, there are very few on the market that are truly pocketable. The IXUS II was perfect for this purpose, small and sturdy.

The main down side is the tiny negative size of APS, you have to live with it. APS processing does seem to be getting better and results so far have been excellent.

Strength:

It's extremely tiny, and light. And that was what I was looking for. I used to carry it around all the time, so that I could take some pictures of my friends unexpectedly. ;) Mid-roll change is a nice feature, but I don't find it so useful except for showing my friends what an APS film looks like. The body seems durable and it's elegant.

Weakness:

The quality of the photos surprised me. Last year, in Las Vegas, outdoor, bright sunlight, using Kodak 200 film, photos in C mode are okay--not very sharp, but acceptable. When taken in P mode, things are blurry. I don¡¦t see any details of the clouds at all. Using Kodak 100 or Fuji 100 doesn¡¦t resolve the problem. Photos developed thru Kodak processing lab don¡¦t look better than those developed in WalMart. I get sharper photos with my 10yrs+ old Canon SureShot.

The H or P modes are not good for taking group pictures. People on the either side are VERY distorted. I tried to stick with C mode most of the time, but the C-H-P mode switch can be turned accidentally too easily.

And the thin layer of metal near the lens is not strong enough; I¡¦ve already got a dent on it after a month of usage.

The camera itself may be good for showing off, but you better hide the photos. I was tired of its poor quality, and decided to go for a Contax TvsIII last month. For me, photo quality is much more important than smallness. Avoid APS if you want sharp pictures!

Strength:

Rugged construction, several excellent program modes, small size, APS format advantages. Has tripod mount.

Weakness:

None with the camera. - see bottom line.

VALUE:
I purchased this camera immediately upon its introduction to the US, and paid a fair price for it $249.00. I would suggest looking at some of the online store where you can get it now for $199.00.
Pictures:
The APS system has its limitations; lack of sharpness if you blow the pictures up and price of film and developing to mention a few. However, after speaking with some professionals the flaws and colors of the pic's are greatly dependent on the processing lab. Experience has proven this the case for me - reprints by a good lab are much better than the originals.
Use:
I've shot nearly 25 rolls since I purchased the camera primarily in London and Paris. I've also tended to primarily shoot night scenes. With the addition of a tripod I've taken some exceptional photo's.

If you're going to purchase 1 camera - this is the one.

Compact, good specs, absolutely beautiful; People stop you in the street to look at it.

Weakness:

Not the best picture quality ever seen, but more than adequate for most. The processing costs are big.

This is the Lotus of the camera world, it may not take the best pictures in the world but it is small, easy to use, has lots of options and features, and is so gorgeous that you'll never get the same buzz out of buying a camera again. I bought this camera for scenery and wildlife photography and it is so light and compact that it is probably the best camera you can take travelling. If you're a pro then forget this! If you're not and you appreciate a user friendly camera, and knockout curves then look no further.

Strength:

The quality of the pictures and the ease of use are what impressed me most. While it certainly has potential due to features such as the 23 - 46 mm zoom. The mid roll change is nice as is the several different modes for flash. The stainless steel case makes it very durable.

Weakness:

Small buttons may be a problem for some thankfully I have small hands so it is not difficult for me to use. When you reprogram the camera after changing the battery I found it handy to have the manual around.

Canon says on their website that this particular model is only available in Europe. I haven't seen this model in U.S. advertisements and I bought in London on vacation. I felt however that it was worth a mention. I have had some experience with good cameras as my father let use his Graflex Graphic 35 in the mid sixties and I still have it and use it to this day.
