good features similar to nikon f70,wide range of lenses can be used, very good everyday camera.

Weakness:

lack of DOF preview,no external battery packs, controls can be slow or confusinng to new or other users,no built-in focus aid light.

the pronea is a sleek and capable aps camera, love the looks and feel of it esp. when i have it fitted with a nikon 28-200 lens.i've been using it for 3 yrs now and pictures taken from it are excellent. the only problem i have so far is that defective battery cover that broke on me TWICE already....BUMMMER...!!!!

Customer Service

poor battery door construction. i have to send it twice(2x) now in 3 yrs for repair/replacement. problem with loading a new roll of film, it advances it all the way w/out even taking a shot.

More features than any one photographer can ever use. Focus, metering, flash, auto-modes... Great lenses, great pictures. I think the red arrow guides are great - Ican frammy picture, and still see the alternative choices. And geometry of lense to Film plane makes 400APS act like 800 35mm with smaller grain!

Weakness:

Photofinishing costs (gouge!)

My first SLR, and I'm getting GREAT pictures right out of the box. My friends keep borrowing it. Let's see... More features than the N700 at 40% of the cost? DUH!!

Good grip and feel. Good price. The APS format makes picture taking very flexible and professional.

Weakness:

No black and white film.
You can't put in your shirt pocket very easily.

So far the camera has lived up to my expectations. Dependability, ease of use, and economical. Very good pictures.

great build, an APS camera that offers all the facilties of a good SLR and more!

Weakness:

Erratic build quality?? see below, otherwise absolutely NONE

2nd 600i bought last week; it proved to have an erratic AF switch. As I absolutely love these cameras, I regret to admit that the best solution (suggested by my very good retailer)is to return it for refund. Another dream shattered. But I still believe in Nikon!! If only!!

I bought my 1st 600i 2 y ago, it developed an aperture board problem , solved very quickly by Nikon UK, ultimately traded in last year for a ContaxG2, attracted by CZ lenses, but regretted it since

Strength:

Ability to accept a wide range of Nikon Accessories ranging from speedlights to lens filters. Basic and Advanced modes are great. Great handling with easy access to the two control dials aperature control and shutter speed. Large LCD screen allows you to change camera functions easily.

Weakness:

Not a fault of Nikon but there isn't a wide range of film types in APS available.

I switched over from 35mm P/S to this Nikon APS and have never looked back. This camera allows me to shoot pictures under a wide range of conditions and gives me a lot of flexibility to be creative. I haven't had the battery problems that some have mentioned in other messages. I have had it for almost a year and have changed the batteries once after about 30 rolls of film. Easy to understand instructions.

Customer Service

I mail-ordered the camera from Nikon Outlet and it was shipped without a hot shoe accessory cover. One phone call and I had it in the mail inside of four days.

Strength:

Great versitility, accurate metering and flash.

Weakness:

Film price and development

This is a great camera and was probably worth the money it cost initially, now for only $199 for the body (if you can find one) it is by far the best deal in APS cameras out there. It is far superior to similar products and meters very wel. The flash works pretty well for a built in flash. The camera feels good in the hand and is fairly light weight. Also it has the familiar Nikon F-mount so you can use your Nikon lenses on this. If you can find it, I highly recommend this camera.

Customer Service

Excellant, haven't used for this camera though.

New to photography, I was looking for a 35mm to learn on. I found this bargain at Ritz for $299 with a 24-70 IX Nikkor lens. I didn't know anything about the camera when I purchased it. What I love about this camera is that I can learn photography fundamentals on it - but still use it in basic mode while I'm learning. It has very fast auto focus which I use when shooting indoor sports. I love the metering system. I am finding as I learn about other 35mm cameras how feature rich this camera is.

Weakness:

Only weakness is that I wish there was faster APS film.

I would recommend this camera to anyone if you can still find it. It has so many great features - totally automatic settings, 6 different picture modes, plus it can be totally manual. It feels great in my hand. I feel really lucky to have found this camera. This camera could be used by a 10 year old or a pro photographer of 10 years!

Customer Service

Good. I had to have the battery door replaced. I sent the camera to Nikon and had it back within 10 days.

Strength:

Every now and again a true value comes along (a deal as we used to say in the days of the cheap reliable Honda). The Pronea 6i belongs in that category when purchased at discontinued rates and not the original price approaching $1000 with two lenses.

Feature packed, amazing grip, dummy basic mode and Apt,Shut,Prog and full Manual modes. Lens interchange. Light weight for such an SLR.

Weakness:

Enlargements are chopped due to the nice but unusuall shape of the negative (HDTV). One must leave room around the subject on one end or the other, and advise enlargers which side not to chop.

No chrome film available in the US, and poor reviews of the euro/asia chrome. Small images for projecters, black line across the bottom, few media outlets to care to deal with that.

Thank you Nikon for leading the way with APS. We all can use a little elph in our pockets, but to do the creative controlled photography that we love, we need a comprehensive SLR.

Since the general public underappreciated the 6i, many saying it had too many buttons while the enthusiasts/pro's hemmed and hawed over APS, Ritz jumped in and bought the end of the run. At a price that makes you do a double take you plop your cash down and find that you are in the mix, or that you have an insurance policy for your other bodies. Anyone can use the camera and you have those neat APS features like mid roll change and panoramic. The body is also a bit smaller than other SLR's.

A grand slam in my opinion!

Customer Service

At Ritz just pay for the all inclusive plan with them and you are set. They even give you a loaner. I hope not to see them anytime soon. Nikon also should back their product well should buyers stay with the manufacturers warrantee only.

This body is so comfortable, a full feel and you don't lose grip like in the CANOBN APS bodies that seem too small for my hands. The price is so right if you can find any of these bodies left at $199

Weakness:

The red arrows that are supposed to denote the pictute size is hard to find when in a rush or in a dark area...just leave the setting on the super big print

For $199 this is the APS SLR to get!
