Strength:

Incredibly sharp lens.
Can override automatic settings.
Built like a tank.
Great daytime outdoor fill flash.

Weakness:

Auto focus seemed to take too long, causing me to often miss "the decisive moment" shots.

The prints from this camera were better than those from my Nikon 8008s with zoom lens. The Zeiss optics are spectacular! But I've had trouble with it taking too long to focus and not finding the object to focus on. I would call this shutter lag, but I think it's really focus lag. I know the new Contax T3 is supposed to have updated focusing, so I hope this problem is fixed. I also had trouble getting it to lock focus so I could reframe the shot, but that could have been operator error.

Strength:

SIZE, USABILITY, BUILD QUALITY, LENS, EASE OF USE, THOSE LOVELY PICTURES.

Weakness:

NOT AS USER-OVER-RIDEABLE AS IT COULD BE, DUE TO THE WAY OPTIONS ARE SELECTED. LENS COVER JAMMED AT ONE STAGE.

HAVING ONLY TRIED "SNAPS" I WANTED TO TAKE GOOD PICTURES IN A SOCIAL CONTEXT, OF THE COMMUNITY I WAS WORKING IN. THE CAMERA NEEDED TO BE POCKETABLE AND EASY TO USE BUT ALSO HELP ME DEVELOP KNOWLEDGE OF PHOTOGRAPHY. FOR ME THIS WAS A VERY EXPENSIVE PURCHASE, ESPECIALLY FOR A USED PRODUCT. I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE T2, EVEN THOUGH MY INITIAL THOUGHTS WERE THAT I'D BEEN RIPPED OFF.

THE CLINCHING THING WAS THE QUALITY OF THE PICTURES WHEN I GOT SUCH THINGS AS COMPOSITION ETC RIGHT. THE DETAIL AND QUALITY OF THE GOOD ONES MEANT I WAS MAKING GREAT IMAGES AND NOT JUST TAKING PICTURES.

THE BEST I REMEMBER WAS AN INDOOR SHOOT OF SCHOOL CHILDREN USING AMBIENT LIGHT, A WIDE APERTURE AND 400ASA FILM. THE GLOW OF THE SKIN, DETAIL AND COLOURS WERE SPECTACULAR. AS A CLUMSY NOVICE I WAS WELL PLEASED.

A LONGER FOCAL LENGTH LENS MIGHT BE AN ADVANTAGE FOR PORTRAITS. IF I HAD THE MONEY I WOULD DEFINATELY GET A T3 EVEN THOUGH IT COSTS AS MUCH AS TWO MONTHS INCOME. SLRS AND RANGE-FINDERS ARE TOO BIG AND FIDDLY.

I WOULD RECOMEND THIS CAMERA FOR A NOVICE WHO WANTS SOMETHING FOR SNAPS AND SERIOUS PHOTOS, WHO DOESN'T WANT TO BE ENCUMBERED BY A BUCKET LOAD OF EQUIPMENT. THOUGH THE COST IS CERTAINLY A MAJOR PROBLEM.

UNFORTUNATELY THE CAMERA WAS STOLEN. SO DUE TO FUNDS I HAVE PURCHASED A CLASSIC OLYMPUS TRIP 35 FOR $30 AND AM YET TO SEE THE RESULTS.

Strength:

Compact. Well constructed. My friends has a Leica Minilux. While the Cotax T2 lens is very good, it isn't up to the quality of his Minilux.

Weakness:

None

Very good camera. Leica Minilux's lens is superior.

Strength:

Best lense for a compact camera, the colours are so vibrant it can rival some SLR lenses. The camera body can really take a beating. The ability to manually adjust settings.

Weakness:

a bit heavy, weak flash, wish the lense is interchangable, like its big brother.

the best camera to take with you everywhere. it's the best sidekick to your regular camera set. worth every penny.

Strength:

Great camera, wonderful sharp lens, a joy to use, lots of little features that make you glad you have one.

Weakness:

Setting on f2.8 activates program mode, so you can't really specify f2.8. Lens is single focal length and non-interchangeable.Not enough shutter speeds in the viewfinder.

It's a wonderful camera with a fast, sharp lens, but I would like to have a range of focal lengths
(which isn't the camera's fault really).

Strength:

1. Beautiful images
2. Large, bright viewfinder
3. Useful, but simple controls

Weakness:

1. Weak flash, mostly useful for fill-flash
2. Light fall-off in corners, typical for virtually all compact cameras. Just get used to it.

This is a truly great compact camera. I have gotten some of my finest photos with it, and the image quality certainly rivals my Nikon.
By the way, Contax has discontinued the T2, but will continue the TVS line, which features a zoom lens in additon to other goodies. The TVS II lens is slower and not as well suited to low light photography. Clearly, Contax is responding to the marketplace, which says that the vast majority of consumers want zooms.
For those who still value an excellent fixed focal length lens, new T2s can be purchased while supplies last. Used T2s can usually be found.

Strength:

Small size, ruggedness of body. Tank like! Zeiss lens, of course!

Weakness:

Nope!

Camera is a joy to hold and use. Fits easily in my briefcase, unlike my G2 which barely fits into its own camera case...another story! Solidly built, Zeiss lens. Extremely sharp pictures and clarity. Blows away the Nikon 35/28ti or Leica Minilux, I feel. Can get this on the net now for around $600!
