Minox GT-E/S Point and Shoot

Minox GT-E/S Point and Shoot

DESCRIPTION

The GT-E and GT-S purposely show restraint when it comes to technical gadgets and concentrate on as much precision mechanics as possible. This gives the photographer more freedom for individual creative composition. Selecting the aperture, for example, enables you to creatively control the depth of field and exposure. Other amazing features of these light-weight and robust full-frame cameras are the very fast lens (f/2,8), the excellent imaging quality and the elegant design.

Strength:

outstanding lens
small

Weakness:

shutter failure

I bought my first Minox 35 in Hong King in the mid 70's and loved it. Absolutely wore it out taking pictures all over the world. I was a traveling CEO and it was always in my brief case or pocket. I wore out thie first one in ten years. Bought a used GTE-E and it was even better. However, the shutter failed to operate 70% of the time and I found few pictures on the roll. I was told that cost of fixing was high, so bought another used
GTE and shortly had the same shutter problem. So, I cannot recommend the camera but if the mechanics were better, there is no camera equal to it for size, excellent optics, excellent results and simplicity to yse. The Minox flash is adequate but I preferred a more powerful and faster operating one.

Strength:

Great portability, razor-sharp lens, great low-light metering capability, quality finish

Weakness:

Light meter can be fooled by reflections from colored surfaces

I finally found an acceptable lightweight substitute for my bulky chrome (old) Voigtlander SLR equipment which performs spectacularly but simply weighs too much. From a purist's point of view, the results aren't quite as good, but for the compactness, the sacrifice is more than worth it.
