Strength:

Takes reasonable pictures, when it works. Looks cute.

Weakness:

Fragile, and Nikon doesn't seem to care. Can't seem to rely on it at all.

Uselessly unreliable. I bought this camera for my 14 year-old daughter. After a couple of months, the electronics completely failed. Sent it in, but didn't get it back before we went on vacation. So, she had to use an older p&s on vacation, defeating the purpose of having bought this one. A year later, we went on our next summer vacation. This time the electronics died halfway through the trip... This time, Nikon says the warranty on the first repair is expired, so it's $104 or throw it away. I use Nikon gear myself (currently N-80), and I don't want to buy anything else for my girls. But I'm feeling like my loyalty has been sorely abused.

Customer Service

I should have bought Ritz's extended warranty, but I thought "it's a Nikon". Lesson learned.

Strength:

Takes beautiful pictures. Silver color makes it easy for us to find it. I like the cover closing over the lens

Weakness:

Small viewfinder, small size

I received this camera as a gift over a year ago after our small Pentax camera stopped working after many years. Most of my life I've used rollfilm cameras. The Nikon is the smallest camera I've ever used since I started taking pictures in 1934. I was skeptical that it was too small and light to take good pictures. Another hard thing for me to get used to was the small viewfinder. My eyesight is not as sharp as it used to be. However, my wife and I do the best we can pointing the camera and trying to hold steady. I remark to my wife every time we get a roll back that this camera takes beautiful pictures, much better than even our Pentax that we liked so much. The pictures are very clear and bright. Its been a great camera for us.

Strength:

That beautiful lens in an inexpesive (I think) feature laden camera! compact; exposure compensation; easy settings and flash options; Its the one P&S thats with me all the time.

Weakness:

consistent with most P&S cameras: small aperture; not immediate shutter release;

I've used this camera since it was introduced several years ago and I must say that I've been impressed with the pictures. The ED lens delivers beautiful, crisp, images. I've had 2 pentax IQZs, 2 canon sure shots and an A1, 1 minolta vectis, and 1 oly Stylus camera. None of them has delivered as sharp or impressive as images. Each of them has its own strenghts, and none is a slouch, but the Nikon lens outshines them all. Its the only one whose colorful, clear pictures gets consistent "wows" from family and friends. Its sold itself to 3 of our friends. They have since all raved about it too. I've not had any problems in 2 years and have run over 100 rolls through it.

Strength:

- Ease of use - Size & weight - Ergonomics - Silent - Stepless zoom - Focus lock - Infinity lock - Takes DX-coded film - Red-eye reduction - Self-timer - Diopter correction - Panorama format - Date imprinting override

Weakness:

- As with most P&S zoom cameras, lens speed (f/5.3 at its widest) - Very limited shutter speed range (2-360 sec) calls for wise choice of film used - Seems very fragile

I wanted a P&S backup for my SLR. Sometimes one feels lazy and prefers to carry an automatic snapshooter around. I took my chances on this camera in spite of some bad reviews. The Nikon name and the celebrated ED glass still seemed to be a safe bet. Of course, I did not expect the Lite Touch to produce F4 results. I also own a fixed focus Olympus Stylus Epic and, unfortunately, expected the same image quality from a Nikon P&S; my Olympus produces extremely sharp, well exposed (even with slide film!), colorful pictures. The Lite Touch is such a shame. I took two 200-36 negative color print rolls to my trusty lab and got back pictures with terrible color rendition and overexposed. Some even came out unfocused. Now I am sure my camera was not the bad one of the lot. The Nikon Lite Touch Zoom 120 simply is something to avoid. Look elsewhere.

Strength:

Finish Light weight Lens cover

Weakness:

Lens Feels plasticky & fragile Dinky controls

Janet (Dec. 2, 2001) pretty much summed it up. This camera takes awful pictures. While it has a nice look and feel about it, don''t be drawn in. It is incapable of producing crisp, satisfying photographs, which ultimately is what you are buying a camera for isn''t it? The auto focus system is quirky and unpredictable. It seems to focus on everything but the subject. The majority of the photos we took (with ISO 200 film) came out blurry, washed out, or otherwise unacceptable. We have gotten better results with $10 disposables. Maybe we got a lemon, but come on, this is supposed to be a Nikon?

Customer Service

Didn''t bother. We took it back and got a Canon Sure Shot 120 Classic.

Strength:

convenient size. sliding lens cover.

Weakness:

poor picture quality. trouble focusing. unreliable.

I purchased this camera after my Nikon N60 was stolen while travelling in Europe. I figured for less money, i could sacrifice the SLR, but still benefit from a nice lens. I was shocked at the pictures that came out of this camera. Awful, awful pictures. Initially assuming it was my fault, i jumped through hoop after hoop, trying different films, different developers, developing them myself, etc, etc... Nothing worked. Taking pictures was also troublesome. It always gave me trouble, seemed hyper-finicky, which i expect to a certain degree with point and shoot, but certainly not as bad as this, especially for the money. A horrible waste of money.

Strength:

Sharp lens, compact size

Weakness:

Body does not seem very durable

It seems like some peoples expectations are too high for a sub-$200 compact. The value of this camera is in the lens. I challenge anyone to find a compact -zoom in this price range with a sharper lens. If you want a "pro" quality compact you''re going to have to spend 2 to 3 times as much. It''s a good camera for the money.

Weakness:

Poor quality, zero durability, flimsy junk

Have used Nikon equipment for years, as well as Hasselblad and Leica. Bought this to stick in briefcase on business travel. Junk ... fell apart almost immediately, Nikon says "impact damage" I say "junk" came apart at the seams. In almost 50 years of enthusiastic photography all over the world, this is the worst junk I have experienced.

Strength:

Superb ED lens. ED glass unheard of in such a low priced camera before this.

Weakness:

None

With all due respect, the previous reviewer made a point and then missed the point. The quality of the optics (the previous reviewer agrees)is first rate. That IS the point. Point and shoots in the $200-$300 price range are all polycarbonate lightweights...don't drop any of them! Red eye is a standard problem because of the closeness of the lens to the flash on virtually all point and shoots. It's not fair to single out this camera for what is a generic issue with all point and shoots in this price range. To get a titanium body, you'll have to spend $650 for the wonderful Leica Minilux or Nikon 35Ti. BUT the quality of the Nikon 120ED lens is excellent and makes the camera an excellent buy. Isn't on film performance first and foremost used to judge a camera?? ED optics at under $225 was unheard of before Nikon 120ED/QD. On film performance...FIRST RATE! This camera is a steal at the going price.
