Red Eye!
Terrible Veiwfinder
Cheap Quality
Poor Focusing!

This was such a promising camera when I saw the advertising of the Nikon "ED" lens. What a dissapointment! There was tremendous red eye in ALL my portraits! Even with red eye reduction turned on. Horrible! I have 15/20 vision and find the viewfinder extremely difficult to use.
The viewfinder is just too small. Period! After using this camera for two weeks, I had to change the batteries. Granted, the batteries I installed were not new. But when I closed the battery compartment door, the automatic locking mechanism
broke and snapped off! Cheap!!! I had to return this camera due to the MANY dissapointments it had caused. Lastly, 2/3rd's of the photo's developed were out of focus. I travel between Brooklyn And Manhattan every day and wanted a good light tool to use so I chose this Nikon for it's performance and price. Sadly, I'd rather carry a disposable. The disposable is a beter performer. This camera needs a 0 star rating. 1 star is too generous. Stay away from this one my fellow enthusiasts. There are so many more products out there that work harder for your hard earned money and time.

Strength:

Sharp, brilliant photographs. Light, small, full featured

Weakness:

Auto focus seems easily confused. Flash recycle time is occasionally long and camera will not fire with a partial recharge.

This is a terrific camera. The photographs are almost as sharp and clear as I can get from my OM 2.

I personally like the view finder as I use my right eye to focus. The camera is well thought out except it will not fire unless the flash is fully recharged. The autofocus takes too long sometimes and you can miss your shot. This may be a general problem with auto focus cameras and has caused me to rethink ditching my OM 2 system for a Nikon N80. The camera does offer a solution to the focusing problem by simply finding something at the same distance as your subject and pushing the shutter release half way. This locks the focus and you can wait for your shot.

If you shop, you can find the camera for $180, maybe less.

The ED lens is a slow but still makes this a good buy. Too bad they do not feel good enough about it to call it a Nikkor. A keeper, but I now need ASA 400 film while the lenses in the Olympus Stylus and Olympus XA are fast enought to use ASA 100.

Strength:

Superb optics in a P&S zoom at an incredible price for ED glass.
clamshell cover;

Weakness:

zoom is not stepless;I also carry my 928 for the wider angle and creative exposure compensation;

This camera delivers professional results. I was amazed that such a small ED glass and aspheric zoom optic could perform like this. I found this lens to be very sharp & contrasty . Flare is very well controlled. I've seen images from 2 samples of this camera. I first bought the camera for my parents, after their trusty Pentax P&S died. I was floored with the clarity and color of the images they showed me from their new camera. I immediately went out and bought one for myself because the image quality rivaled my Nikon SLR lenses. Although I carry 3 SLR systems with me on assignments, I also carry a P&S for quick grab shots for the times my equipment is packed.
I used this Nikon P&S getting candid shots at a 50th anniversary and holiday celebrations with lots of grand-children interactions. I had very few problems locking on focus with all their activity. The range of the flash and focal lengths meets published specs. I always turn off the redeye lamp to speed shots and not be too disruptive. (I touch-up redeye in prints as needed.) Head and shoulder portraits show every whisker, eyelash, wrinkle, blemish, and thread of fabric. (Be careful, as this sharpness will not flatter some subjects). Skin tones and fabric colors were dead on in the prints by my lab.
ISO100 transparencies of portraits, deciduous forest landscapes in fall& winter, architechure, and classified ads using a tripod confirmed the edge-to-edge sharpness, color, and contrast from close focusing to infinity at all zoom settings. I kept the flash off in all these test images and found the camera's available light exposure accuracy was excellent. If you a looking for a P&S, and if you want to take photos that are sharp, and have excellent color & contrast, you owe it to yourself to consider this camera. It delivers pro quality images at a BARGAIN price.

Strength:

Small size. Modern, sleek appearance.Lightweight and easy to use controls.Nikon ED lens.

Weakness:

Picture quality poor.Almost all indoor pictures had washed out appearance in both low and high light environments. Pictures seemed dark with brownish hues. Outdoor pictures were also dark and not sharp.

Shame on the Nikon name to make a camera which produces photos of such inferior quality. I took eight rolls of film on our cruise and was very disappointed. Perhaps I bought a lemmon. Returned camera and bought a Nikon N 65. No more point and shoots for me!

Strength:

Compact, light weight, good price. Pics that came out good were sharp, some with good color and okay contrast.

Weakness:

Uneven results. Flash tended to wash out many shots. Focus system seems unreliable as three identical shots of same subject (yes, holding focus lock etc.) to test this camera resulted in one great shot and two out of focus shots. Never had any luck with the flash and some shots were very contrasty leaning toward being too dark. Tried about 60 shots and then returned it.

My guess is that while the ED lens is probably fine, Nikon skimped on the rest of the camera to keep costs in line. I actually wanted a Samsung with the Carl lens but couldn't find one so bought this thinking the ED lens would get the sharp results but was ultimately disappointed. After 60 shots, I've got about 40 that came out either out of focus, washed out from incorrect flash, or underexposed from flash not handling the extent of the zoom. Not able to handle sports shots of my kids jumping on trampoline so overall I think Nikon still needs to stick to SLRs.

I can't believe Nikon came out with this camera. It is an abomination. Out of my rolls of film, maybe only 5 pictures came out somewhat decent.I am currently returning it. I will probably get a Canon Sure Shot Classic after reading all the reviews.

Flash can wash out if pic is taken too close without zooming in

After much deliberation, I finally decided to purchase this camera. My salesman assured me that it was the highest quality point and shoot I would find. I was not sure because it has the appearance of a "sissy" camera with not much to it. Well, I WAS WRONG. I had tried several cameras before this one and NONE of them resulted in such precise, clear images as this camera did. My trusty Pentax served me well for 10 years but I think I've moved over to Nikon after this. Excellent Camera!

Customer Service

Ritz Camera did an excellent job helping an amateur photographer such as myself choosing "the right camera" for me. Knowing in advance that I did not have a lot of money to spend, they gave me the best camera for my buck.

Strength:

Small, compact and, lightweight. The sliding lens cover probably protects it a bit. Good value if you want a p&s with a big zoom.

Weakness:

The 120 zoom is slow and pretty hard on the battery if you play around with it. The AF is slow and so is the red-eye reduction which means you have to hold it still for ages.

I bought this camera for an oversees trip and overall I was happy with the results. It is easy to stick in your pocket and carry around. The shots were generally good, some were a bit blurred but I suspect this was my fault because I got impatient waiting for the AF.

Having said all of that I would not buy a p&s with 120 zoom. Better off going for one with a wide angle lens as you have trouble getting stuff in when you are in a confined space. You probably loose a quality with the zoom fully extended too.

Overall this is a good camera, with good features for the price. However, it you want to take pictures of stuff that is far away buy an SLR and a good lens. If you wnat a p&s save some money, you don't need this much zoom.

Fabulous, clear shots, wonderful color. I am so pleased with this camera!!! After reading all the reviews I wasn't sure what to expect, but couldn't imagine Nikon would fail me. I was right!!! I love it, and I tried it in all sorts of light. Light, easy to use, and really great, sharp pictures.

Weakness:

The zoom is slow, but if you know that going in you can easily deal with it. Of course the red eye is there, I don't bother with that feature since by the time any camera with that option turned on takes the picture the subject has moved or the smile becomes pasted on. I wish the zoom were faster, but I can live with it considering the great results. The flash would wash out a subject if you are too close, but that is the case with ALL p&s cameras. You can't aim the flash, so just zoom in and stand further back. Use 400 film to help in the low light situations, I find it's the best all-around film anyway.

I love it!!! As long as you know what to expect flash-wise in a point and shoot I think you will be happy you bought it. Plan on a slow zoom, focus accordingly and you won't be dissappointed with this camera. The pictures are crisp, clear, and in beautiful living color. Use 400 film by the way...

Strength:

ED glass lens, 120mm zoom, compact size, and great prints.

Weakness:

It's not an SLR.

I absolutely cannon believe that there are people who hate this camera! My brother is an avid photographer. He owns a couple SLR cameras, a medium format camera, and a plethora of lenses and filters. He works at a reputable photo lab (PrestoFoto) in Annapolis. So, when I went looking for a new camera, he's the one I went to. I'm not interested in a manual SLR camera. He knew I wanted either an automatic SLR or a good P&S. Always the gadget freak, I lookes at lots of lower priced SLRs like the Nikon N65. I liked it, but for $400 you get it with a cheap lens. This was the upper limit of my budget, so I went with his recomendation on the LiteTouch 120ED/QD because of it's optics and it's price.

Boy am I happy with this camera! What it does, it does well. I had someone take two pictures of me, one with red-eye reduction on, the other with it off. The difference is amazing. When using red-eye reduction, the most you get is a very dark ruby color, almost black. I think that's pretty good for a P&S camera.

Most of the time, my brother develops and prints my pictures for me... however, the first time I had someone else (at the same place) do my prints, the girl said, "your camera takes good pictures." I didn't need for her to tell me that. For the first time in my life, I find myself having enlargements made. I have some beautiful 8x10s of my two-year-old daughter.

The prints are more colorful and have better contrast than those taken with my Olympus Stylus (although I thought those photos were decent).

I have put 7 rolls through it so far, all either Fuji or Kodak 200 speed negative film. I haven't had to replace the battery, even though most of my pictures used the flash, and I've played with the zoom a lot.

I believe this camera is a fantastic deal. Good looking pictures are my #1 priority. The optics in this camera make that possible. I find all of the features easy to learn and use.

If you want the features and flexibility of an SLR camera, you won't find it here. But if you want a nice P&S with great optics, try it out.

I had a good laugh (and so did my brother) when I read that someone thought you could get pictures just as good from a disposable camera!

I'm giving it 5 stars relative to similar cameras in it's price range and class.
