Strength:

Very compact, Weatherprotected. Fast lens.

Weakness:

Nope

This great little camera fits my jeans pocket perfectly or in my back pocket when I go mountainbiking. It's a one-handed camera too - just whip it out, open the lens cover and snap away. The waterprotection gives me peace of mind when out on my bike (rain/sweat - you name it).

Love the size and the fast lens! Oh, it takes good pics too. An expensive (in Canadian $$) camera but I'd buy another.

Strength:

Compact, easy to slip into my purse or a diaper bag for taking pictures any time. Easy to use and get great looking pictures.

Weakness:

None!

I received this camera in the fall, right before having my first child, and boy have I used this camera a lot! After taking over 400 pictures with this camera, I must say that I am extremely satisfied. I am definitely a novice photographer; my husband has much more expreience and a fancy expensive camera, but my pictures turn out as wellas or better than his do! I have been very satisfied with this camera!

Customer Service

Can't say, as I've never had to call on them!

Strength:

Incredibly compact, sharp lense, beautiful and functional clamshell design

Weakness:

None whatsoever

This is the kind of camera that you can and should take everywhere. It is small enough to fit in your pocket, but takes crisp, well-exposed photos. It also has some sophisticated features like spot metering and remote capable operation. I got a free remote control during a special promo, which I've used on a couple of occasions to the delight of friends and family. The bottom line is that this camera is portable enough to conveniently take everywhere and for that reason I've been able to take some wonderful pictures in the past year with this camera when I didn't have my "serious" camera handy. The photos taken with the Olympus Epic are almost as sharp as the ones taken with my Canon A2 (which costs and probably weighs 7x as much). You won't be disappointed if you decide to get this camera (unless you must have a zoom lense).

Strength:

small, cute-can't resist those 2 qualities
fast 2.8 lense
spot meter "compensation"
Sharp pictures when it/you hold it still.

Weakness:

small size makes camera shake easy
not too confident grip
'champaine color' is too much eye candy for girls who want to touch it
-!tends to want to use the wide aperatures especially when within 20-30feet=resulting in more "slr-type" portraits- especially when you don't expect it.
This 'tendency' makes it more of a serious P&S than a general snapper.
Focus or button is very sensitive-make sure you are not touching it when framing-unintentionally locking focus at wrong point.
The focus point is so precise (combined with small aperature preference) that unintentional results can occur.

compact snapper that you should carry everywhere.
Tight, taut body feels good in my palm. It is somewhat sensitive, making it a more 'serious' camera- you have to pay attention with this one. Cannot lapse into a casual snapper- it actually needs a steady hand to focus and has spot meter to help get a very accurate exposure or use the spot meter to create a mood/altering exposure. more serious than most 35fixed snappers, but the results can be close to SLR quality. Fast enough to be a good indoor snapper, too. A bit finicky, but I love it nonetheless.

Takes great pictures. It was cheap. Perfect size for hauling around all the time and great feel. I don't use my SLR near as much as I used to - it's just a pain to lug around (the SLR that is).

Strength:

I have the QD Champagne coloured one- no longer avail in the US, i think.
Sharp, fast, contrasty lense. Good colour rendition- no noticable colour fringes either (on fine lines).
Metering is good.
Spot meter for 'serious' photography.
clamshell
cuteness - priceless- suckers me everytime, but so good for me :)

Weakness:

no. 'close' subjects are wider aperature than normal (P&S)-less DOF- resulting in 'portrait-type' pictures-definetely not a problem.

The BEST fixed P&S for usability and performance. Olympus shortened the strap (from original Stylus-that started it all- or was it the XA?) for perfect neck hangablility. I have to say that the camerabody feels as taut and good as my first girlfriend's 'small of her back'- oh, how I adore(d) that! (OK, so I am 1/2 way into a sixpack). Pictures are snappy and well-exposed with the normal metering. The spot meter is extreemely accurate- use carefully (i.e. 18% gray!). Camera is durable (bringing it with me MTBing -often- just this last Memorial Day wknd at Northstar)- pictures snapped are fantastically sharp- as good as or slightly more color saturation than my consumer Nikon zooms (!for real). A very good indoor picture taker, too because of the 'fast' 2.8 lense- better than ANY zoom P&S, not totally necessary to load grainy 400/800. I have wedding pictures (from a banquet) that look too sharp (for wedding pictures)!- the B&G asked me for my negatives to send pics to friends. (Okay, it's not a portrait lense, but it does work unobtrusively well in 90% of 'whip it out' cases). I so adore the Olympus Stylus line (especially this DLX Epic). It does make me think twice about lugging around the Nikon, instead of the other way around. Thanks to Olympus for creating the ultimate usable, everycamera!

Customer Service

Strength:

-great optics
-light weight
-quality build

Weakness:

-touchy shutter release
-wheezy sounding motors (focus and wind)
-wierd but effective red-eye pre-flashes.
-auto-focus does not always work.
-viewfinder is a bit too small. I still have trouble "finding" it sometimes.

Some of the best pictures I have were taken with this camera!
I bought this over three years ago when my kids were first born, and we have used this ever since. I was impressed by the wide aperature and reports of superior optics. Bought it back in the day when it was a new model and you had to pay $120 for it.
Give you an idea of how much I like it. A few months after we bought the camera, we thought we had lost it. I went right out and bought another one (again, at around $120). Found the first one and am keeping it just in case one of them ever fails.
I like the clamshell design; this camera really fits in your shirt pocket. It is incredibly easy to use, and while the shutter release is on a hair trigger, and while auto-focus isn't always that great, this camera gives great shots most of the time, and rarely ruins a shot (if your subject moves after you set auto lock, it can cause a problem). Red-eye can be a problem without using red-eye reduction, but the series of bright pre-flashes is very disruptive for subjects. I rarely use it, and, quite frankly, I use this as it was intended--large aperature photos with good natural light exposure. By the way, even though you have a 2.8 aperature, it can soemtimes be a problem. The camer a will sue existing light indoors and will choose not to use a flash, I suggest you force flash when shooting indoors, or use 400 film for indoor shots, to make sure you get exposure right.
Despite these problems, considering you can pick these up on Ebay for next to nothing, there is no reason not to try this camera.
