Strength:

Super compact and 35mm. Doesn't need a case. Has a fast and sharp lens. Incredible battery life.

Weakness:

None

A great little camera especially for those who appreciate the extras that allow it to be a little more than just a point and shoot. The best camera is the one you have with you, and this little gem can always be with you.

Great little carry-everywhere camera, IMHO best of what is currently available. Serious drawback, which it shares with all others of its ilk, is the time lag between pressing the shutter button and actual exposure. In 1/3 sec, the whole picture can change. I lose many pix that way. Also, the active focus beam either focusses on glass or at infinity behind it if you cover one of the ranging windows with a finger. You can't get sharp focus on something right behind glass. For my photography, the XA was a much better machine. But that was then. OTOH, I like the fill flash capabilities, spot meter and lens quality superior to the XA. If they could cram an XA into the Epic, I would be the happiest photographer in all of Clintonville.

Customer Service

Used for XA flash and Stylus. Good results.

You may ask-what is the big deal?- it's just a P&S- they're all the same.
Wrong. This one has superffine focussing, water resistant construction, fast 2.8 lense, sharp, reasonably good exposure, and small size(without going to APS design). - add spot metering.
Does the f2.8 lense matter? Undoubtedly, yes- I have the original f3.5 stylus. When moving (on a boat, horse, or mountain bike), I can still get sharp pictures where I couldn't have with the f3.5 (original stylus is still good-very definable characteristics)- forget about any fancy zoom P&S, those can't do anything without 400ASA film.
This camera, more than my techno F100, and classic FE, has snapped more spontaneous wonderful 'keepers' that makes me seriously think about what photography really means to me.
It redefines photography at many levels given it's excellent performance and ability to adjust exposure, but is simple to use as any P&S.
(getting philosophical here) Whatever tool you have, it is just a tool.
Add to the fact that it is a fixed 35mm lense that makes you think for once about framing/perspective/distance without going for the zoom lever-
Ahhhhhh...the epic is refreshing to hold and use.
And all P&S have different characteristics/tendencies: exposure and focus that you will notice (love/hate) after numerous rolls.
I always carry my epic (mostly with Gold200) with me and am able to capture those special moments/opportunities I would've never had with any other camera.

Weakness:

Use this camera everywhere. The regular black version is only $89. I have the Champaigne one.
I just went to two weddings, both carrying around my epic and in one, my nikon with mega Metz flash and imposing lense(all adds up to 15+ pounds).
The epic (35mm) was great for close small group shots and the wide aperature blurred the background sufficiently- all with no fuss- whip it out, tuck it in.
The epic doesn't intimidate people like my nikon/Metz/megalense piece of workout equiptment. In the end result, of course the nikon produced very technically correct- compressed images, powerful flash photos, superclean photos, but my epic produced the friendliest pictures- people are a bit bloated (looks wider angle), but thoroughly pleasing- all sharp/focused, good contrast- these qualities cannot be measured quatitatively. Maybe the epic's greatest feature is it's unobtrusiveness combined with a quality optic. Kudos! to Olympus.
Effortless shooting with the epic- if not for the 35mm, loss of ultimate control, I could not fault it at all.

It is so nice to be able to buy a compact p&s for under $100.00 and get what is considered among pros to be one of the best. The shutter speed and lens sharpness is so great! If you lose it or break it just buy another one!

An excellent camera to carry anywhere and everywhere. I love the integrated lens/camera cover. This allows you to carry the camera in and with anything, not worring about scratching the lens, flash or anything else vital to the camera's performance. The Epic is worth what it sells for but I totally lucked out and found a store making the mistake of selling them for $58! One of those once in a lifetime deals.

Weakness:

none yet, accidently hit back cover latch(okay, I was playing with it), and camera started winding film even though hte back was never opened. Problem fixed by resisting urge to play with buttons I wasn't supposed to

Makes an excellent companion to my Nikon SLR, and it seems to be targeted at people who want a second camera. Bought it because it was the smallest 35mm AF camera avaible, and I didn't want to step to APS since I do alot of my own darkroom work. I like the extras like spot metering and Night Scean mode, two features I though I wouldn't find except on an SLR. Good built in flash, powerfull and good range thanks to wide apeture lens. I wish it had some feedback as to what the cameras exposure settings were, but I haven't found a compact yet that can do that. I can take this camera anywhere, which is less than I can say for my big a** Nikon, so I get all those pics I've been missing. Seems to be very durable with a bulit in lense and sensor cover + splash proof. Good value at 90 bucks and well thought out peice of equipment in general
