tiny size is awesome.
Weakness:
Took 10 day trip to Spain -- 4-5 rolls. At least 10% of the photos were extremely blurry. This was mainly associated with the nightscape flash. Some day shots blurry too (using good 400 film). I would like to return this camera -- something is wrong with the autofocus. I can't keep using this camera with so many blurry shots and have no idea what's causing the blurriness. Makes me want a new, different camera (though I just bought this one.) Customer Service not yet. Similar Products Used: other Olympus -- also sometimes blurry pics. Cheap Canon -- far fewer blurry pics but bulky to carry. |

Wanted a pocketable camera to have with me almost always. After reading many evals of APS (I originally wanted an Elph) and 35mm supercompacts, I decided on the Epic. Love everything about it... super-sharp and fast 2.8 lens, smooth feel, features (use spot metering often), waterproof, etc. Instead of being limited by a few APS films, I can now "clean out" my 35mm film bin with anything I choose. Takes GREAT photos... friends think I used a "pro" camera!
Weakness:
Absolutely none. For about $100 (mail order or retail), this camera can't be beat... makes a great 35mm SLR backup and "second body" for different film. Panorama feature on 35mm alone justifies carrying one around! Customer Service No experience/ no need! Similar Products Used: Elph 370Z 3x zoom... which I returned after a roll of disappointing prints! |

FAST f/2.8 lens, spot meter, excellent active AF system, phenomenal battery life, night scene mode, potent fash
Weakness:
Exposure conpensation would be nice, also an infinity lock button for focussing through glass. This is a great camera that lives in my jacket pocket for those fateful unexpected photo oppurtunities when I'm not lugging my SLR. Exposure compensation would be nice so I could have more control and acheive the effect I want. I bought it so I could have a P-S camera that is "compatible" with my SLR (i.e. 35mm). I never use my Nikon Nuvis A20 APS camera anymore, now that I have this little gem. I've shot almost 100 rolls of Fujichrome Sensia 100 slide film now, and I'm only on my 2nd battery! This is an important point, because the batteries are relatively expensive. I don't regret paying big bucks for quality (about $250 Cdn.). Highly recommended!! Customer Service None. I love it! no totally weatherproof- one raindrop got the finder blurry Great camera with adjustable exposure via spot meter. Some of my pics I can't tell the difference between my high buck german lenses (ok, the contrast is not as great)or some foolish expensive P&S-espcially at small aperatures. Wide open, lense is not as sharp, but color rendition is very good considering it a Japanese optic. I just picked up an older XA4 online and it is fabulous- a 28mm with a color rich, high contrast lense. Sharpness may not be as good as the Epic (first two rolls), but color rendition/saturation is much heavier- more like a german lens. The 28mm does make a difference in enviornmental shots. Quiet, shake free shutterrelease! Dumb flash, though and DX coding messes up the exposure compensation via ASA change- I will start taping over the film roll's DX coding. Also the XA4 is not a small as the Epic. Still- Olympus is king in my book-and I'll always have a camera at hand! Similar Products Used: all minis |

None This is the best value 35mm compact you'll find bar none. Excellent lens, incredibly wide apeture for a P+S, spot meter, small small size. This is a must have if you already own a SLR, and makes an excellent 1st string camera as well. Only downside is it doesnt have a zoom. (which is why it takes such good pictures) Similar Products Used: I played with a dozen or so different models. from My trusty old ae-1 to the new digital cameras. |

Large aperture (f2.8). Spot metering. Tiny size. Weather-proof. I got superb results with ASA 100 print film, indoors and out. Very sharp. F2.8 lens is a boon indoors, allowing me to use slower film than with most zoom p&s. Took it EVERYWHERE on a recent trip to Italy, including a week of cycling in the country.
Weakness:
Seems to have trouble with backlighting, so use the fill flash mode. An amazing bargain. I struggled with ordering a Yashica T4*, which I have read a lot about. But I waited until too soon prior to our trip. So I went to the local Target and bought the champagne color Epic, with the date back (which you can turn off), for $100. Customer Service Not yet. Similar Products Used: I own an XA2, which still takes perfect Kodachrome slides. But has an f3.5 lens. Also have a Nikon 35-70 zoom, but it& |

I bought this camera hoping that this is one I'd actually take with me - and indeed I do. My Nikon F100 is a great piece of machinery, but this small, light, easy-to-use camera with a high quality lens really fills a huge gap. After 15 rolls, it still runs smoothly on its first battery.
Weakness:
The AF system somehow got damaged, but Olympus fixed this. Wide open, the lens tends to result in fuzzy corners. Other than that, it's a great camera. It can sometimes be difficult to see through the viewfinder (but then, I'm SLR-spoiled). All serious SLR users should really consider adding this camera to their equipment line-up. This is a high quality camera that you actually take with you. The minor nitpick of not having a zoom lens is compensated for by the high quality fixed lens that it has. Customer Service Very good: there was an occasional problem with the AF system and Olympus fixed it promptly. Similar Products Used: No other P&S camera, misc. Nikon SLRs. |
