Weakness:

Soft image on the two samples I tried.

I purchased this about a year ago; and the first roll shoed an immedite problem; the pictures were all soft. I took the camera back and the staff at CWO Agreed there was a problem (the negatives were checked and under magnification, was clear it was a camera problem). They swapped another one; but it too was defective (although not as "bad" as the first). I "settled" by trading to a Pentax P&S which gave better results. So I don''t know if this was jut a sample problem or not. I do have the fixed lens stylus which is excellent, and my daughter has a Stylus 38-105 which gives good prints...so I''m not "anti-Olympus"

Strength:

Small. Good zoom range for size.

Weakness:

Not weather resistant as advertised. Slow - delay is too long between pressing the shutter button and photo being taken.

One day I needed to take some outdoor photos but it was raining out. I thought it'd be a perfect chance to try my Olympus in the rain since it's advertised as weatherproof. After about 2 hours in light rain, the camera began to malfunction. I immediately turned it off and wiped it down in my car with a dry towel. It didn't matter. The camera refused to shut off and my lens kept adjusting and it whirred for about a half hour until I finally popped the battery out.

Needless to say, my photos and the camera were ruined. Unfortunately, my warranty had expired about a month earlier.

I mailed it in anyway asking Olympus to repair it and send me the bill. They wrote me back saying the camera was unrepairable but they would offer me an assortment of factory reconditioned models (none of which were the Stylus Zoom 115 - they were all old obsolete models) for a discounted price (which was higher that what they retailed for at local stores).

I will not buy another Olympus after this experience. I didn't buy any of their refurbished, overpriced, "discounted" obsolete models to replace it with either.

Strength:

I have had consistently good results using ASA 200 film. The pictures are really sharp. I like its compactness and design. You can just close it up and put it in your pocket - really useful and discrete. Flash works well and is great for small groups. I dropped mine on a hard floor but still works OK.

Weakness:

Need to wait for lens to motor out when you open case which can slow you down.

A practical little camera that delivers really good pictures.

Strength:

Visually appealing, nice features for the price, and the picture quality is great.

Weakness:

motor is a bit slow, fear of the flash breaking is an issue, but it hasn't broken yet.

This is a great camera for a beginner like myself. The value is great and I have no complaints with the end-result pictures. I use 400 speed film and am pleased with my purchase.

Strength:

Small and compact. A lot if great features. Very nice cosmetic design and water resistant.

Weakness:

The strobe flash kinda spooks younger children. This was not good because thats why I purchased it. Focus wasn't the best. Red - eye wasn't as effective as I was hoping.

Although I liked the appearance and features I ended up returning it after about 5 rolls of Mediocre shots. If you are looking for a camera to just take to parties with friends this may be the one. It really isn't bad for the price - Pd 200 for the deluxe. Now I am going to try the Yashica 140.

Strength:

I was surprised at the quality. The test shots with slide film were sharp and clear. The viewfinder works extremely well with eyeglasses, the diopter adjustment making a big difference. It is small, light, easy to carry, and simple to manipulate even here in the cold winter Rockies. Weather resistence works, I took some shots in wet sleet without damage.

Autofocus works well now that I gotten used to it and the aperture/shutter automation makes reasonable choices most of the time.

Weakness:

Although I did my testing with slides, the lack of real exposure control makes print film more sensible.

Although the exposure choices are good most of the time, a manual aperture-preferred mode or "curve shift" function would be a welcome addition.

If you can adjust to the complete automation, a fantastic camera for those situations where you'd normally leave a full-sized system at home.

Strength:

-Zoom
-Small and compact
-Sharp and accurate shots
-Good features

Weakness:

-Slow motor, you have to wait for the lens to come out and for it to go back in when you want to close it.
-Slow and wobbly zooming. IT looks like it will just break off every single time it wobbles out to a longer length and does so very slowly. It hasn't yet though and it probably won't.

I think the Stylus wins out over this camera, even though it has a zoom. It is almost irritating to wait for.

However, I believe that if you are going to get a P&S any Olympus camera is the way to go. They are small, light, cheap, have great features, and take great pictures without any effort at all. They give you the most "bang for your buck". You can't really go wrong.

Strength:

Robust construction. The zoom lens is quite solid even at full extension, and the buttons work firmly.

Excellent feel in the hand.

Relatively small size.

The QD version is silver. It is much easier to find the dim little viewfinder against a light-colored back than a dim little viewfinder against a dark-colored back.

The weatherproofness. Our stayed sealed against light intermittent rain, fog, and dust. This is not a waterproof camera, and should be protected in heavy weather, unlike the Pentax 90WR/105WR.

Weakness:

Shutter lag.

Slow to unfold, which makes it tempting to carry open. Don't succumb to this temptation, though, because the lens tubes are quite vulnerable.

A good choice as a single p&s camera. Personally, I wouldn't bother with a non-weatherproof p&s - if I'm going to have to coddle my photo gear, I'll take an SLR. Decent zoom range and solid ergonomics make this camera a winner.

Strength:

Image quality. Bulkier than I like but light weight. Truly a point ans shoot, there's little to consider before tripping the shutter.

Weakness:

The opening and closing delays waiting for the lens to extend itself and retract. The unceertainty of just when does the shutter open. (I understand the new Epic version has a feature that might address that.) This camera was bought Oct. 1999 and died this month. No visible sign of life except the mid-roll rewind works. Repair estimate is over $150 and could be more than $200. I'm switching brands looking for quicker opening and closing and a greater feel of control over the moment of exposure.

It was good while it lasted.

Customer Service

No contact. Camera is out of warranty.
