Rollei Prego 90 Point and Shoot

Rollei Prego 90 Point and Shoot

DESCRIPTION

The Rollei Prego 90 gives you the best of both world's, optically speaking. Its Varioapogon 28-90mm lens zooms long enough for distortion-free head-and-shoulders portraits, yet is wide enough on the short end for tight interiors, big views and architectural subjects. What's more, its wide-angle capability means you can move in close to a subject and still show an interesting background.

Strength:

Sharp Lens!
Useful 28-90 Zoom range!

Weakness:

None

I have been doing lot's of my own research for perfect point and shoot camera!
I have also owned and used numerous point and shoot camera as noted above. And I can say that although there are no so called "perfect camera" this Rollei comes very close. Sharpness comes either close or equal to some of the high end PS noted above, with very useful zoom range. I highly recommend this camera if you can still find one to purchase!(Now discontinued)

Strength:

Zoom range, Sporty design, Relatively fast lens of the same range (except the new Konica Lexio 70), good colour and contrast, reasonable priced.

Weakness:

Bad view finder, slighlt on the bulky side (same as Pentex 928), bad distortion at corners at 28mm.

6 years of heavy use, still going alright. Except the date printing is not working properly. Their new 28-70mm version has a much slower lens. So I will not get it. Why not visit www.rollei.de?

Strength:

It produces great photos and is easy to use. I have taken great portrait shots of my bride in her bridal gown, good candids of my family, and a good variety of photos on my honeymoon. The autofocus with the lock focus is very accurate. Good pictures in low light without flash. The 28 - 90 focal length range is an ideal range. I have become a serious student of photography since I bought this a month ago. (I have alread shot about 30 rolls) Part of this is due to the success I have had with the Rollei. The 2-second timer is very useful to reduce camera motion in low-light situations.

Weakness:

I agree with other reviewers that the manual could have been improved slightly by inserting the illustrations in the same pages as the text. However, I used "Photography for Dummies" as my primer on P & S's and only referred to the manual to be sure I had the right icons for the flash or program mode I wanted.

Great camera. One of only 3(?) P&S's with 28-90 zoom. 28mm is very useful. Although this is not a small P&S it is lighter and smaller than all the SLR's I've since tried out. I am consistently and pleasantly surprised at the photos when I get them back from the processor. Only my mistakes keep the photos from being better. I will probably get an SLR in several months so I can have more control, like depth of field control.

Strength:

I like the versatility of a 28-90mm zoom lens, particularly one with Schneider optics.

Weakness:

The camera itself is fine, although it's least effective in producing sharp panoramic prints in full-zoom mode. Not something I'd generally do, anyway.

Great camera, great optics. Bad instruction booklet.

Customer Service

The manual needs a major rewrite, and layout by someone who understands that illustrations for "figure X" and "Example 2" need to be shown somewhere near the text that explains their functions. You really have to read and re-read this booklet.

Strength:

Prego 90 is a solidly built point and shoot camera and the most remarkable attribute is how easy it is to use. The program functions have "icons" that are easy to remember and enhance your picture taking capabilities. Even if your a beginner or experienced photographer you will enjoy this camera.

Weakness:

No problems as yet. Several months old.

Rollei is a very good company! I think this Prego line puts the Germans back on top!!

Strength:

28-90 Zoom lens, 2 second delay for nighttime or low-light shots (eliminates shake)

Weakness:

Too bulky (as are all 28-90's--if they can make a 115 that is narrower, it indicates that they just didn't update the 28-90).

Can't they give you a one page summary on how to use the camera (so that you can keep it in the case)?

A great camera-sharp lens, reasonable aperture. Yes, I wish it was smaller (I will get an Elph to slip into my jacket for parties) but overall I have been very happy with it.
