Strength:

High contrast, but with the right settings, also has a great tonal range. nice change from Kodak.

Weakness:

Might be to much contrast for some, 36 exp only.

I also must praise this film. After trying to push/pull Kodak's attempt at fast films, I found that Neopan almost always hits what I like perfectly. This film is high contrast, but that is what I love about shooting B&W film. I have shot quite a few shows with this film, both with flash and without, and have had nothing but good things come out of it.

Strength:

very fast-in good light you can have it all-small f/stop,fast shutter, filters, whatever you want very usable in low light sharp with fine grain for 1600 film contrasty(can be a good or bad thing)

Weakness:

almost must be mail ordered-very hard to find locally 36 exp. only-no 24

Neopan 1600 is a very fast film that that is sharp with grain that is noticable, but fine. It does not get "in the way". In fact, it is about that of T-max 400.If you want grain, it may not even be enough. If you need reasonably sharp film and do not have to have razor sharp and need speed, this film can work wonders for you. For night and low light handheld shooting, this is a must have. But it is very contrasty-be careful here.I shoot at 1250 to help shadow detail. Dark subjects can lose detail. Maybe shoot at 1000 for dark subject against midtone or light background.

Strength:

A roch, beautiful tonality. High sharpness. Great latitude.

Weakness:

Considered what you get for the money, and the overall strengths of the film, I would be hard-pressed to find one.

Having experimented with 1600 off and on for some time now, I have come to the conclusion that this is the best "super fast" film ever made. After several dimly lit concert photo sessions here in L.A., I can safely say in side by side comparisons with Tmax3200, Neopan pushed to almost 2 stops still vastly exceeds its Kodak rival. What may be slightly lost in shadow detail, more than makes up for it tonality and sharpness. Man, this film is SHARP. Anything up to 8x10 has the perfect grain structure for my tastes. Tmax3200 is sloppy in low light and is far from being a true 3200 film - more like 800. I still love Tri-X, but when I need the extra stop or two, nothing compares with Fuji's 1600. By the way, Neopan 400 is great, but Tri-X pushes much better up to 2 and 3 stops.

Strength:

Fine grain for the speed. A true 1600 film. Very pleasing tonal range. Quite forgiving of processing errors. Vastly superior to T-Max 3200. Inexpensive.

Weakness:

After thinking about this for a few minutes, I still can''t come up with any.

I must add to the praise for this film, which I have used extensively. I use it with the two-bath developer Emofin, which keeps contrast down and gives a wonderfully long tonal range. I normally print onto 12x16 inch paper, without obtrusive grain. Highly recommended.

Strength:

C.an be processed with Neopan 400 at same time. Tight grain, nice midtones.

Weakness:

NARROW exposure lattitude.

The best film for shooting at ISO 800. At 1600, requires tight metering and film very sensitive to slight development time changes. Fuji Neopan 400 and 1600 are very good films that just don't have a following in the US.

Strength:

Great grain for this speed.

Weakness:

None that I can think of.

I used this at a poorly lit amateur baseball game and was very happy with the results. Since then, if I need a really fast film, Neopan 1600 is what I use.

Strength:

The best black and white film I have used. It reveals true black and white characteristics, that I cannot find in any other black and white film.

Weakness:

None.

I used this film extensively in New York, London, Los Angeles and Vancouver as well as Sydney and the results were better than I expected. Chosen frames were printed onto fibre based paper and the results wre great. Well done Fuji!!!!!!!
