Strength:

Amazing grain! On par with Tri-X or TCN400 in terms of grain. Most of my film gets scanned as I don't have access to a dark room and this is the *best* performing B/W neg I have put through it, the negs have heaps of contrast and work great with my Acer 2420s / VueScan combo.

Weakness:

It might be a bit contrasty in daylight shooting.

As a fuji film it might pay to under expose but 1/3rd a stop, or more depending on your preference. This film certainly has more to give in the shadows at 1600.

I bought this, ran it throught my F80 without even bothering to spot meter as I thought it was a dead loss like all the other fast B/W film I had tried. Man! Was I eating my words. This film is fantastic. I don't have access to a dark room so it was cooked by a local overnight lab and results were very impressive. I should have rated it a 1250 to get a bit more out of the shadow detail.

Honestly for the dark room challenged or those who want to see what a fast film can do you should just grab a roll of this film for a pleasent supprise!

Strength:

good grain, and definition

Weakness:

hard to find in north america

best b&w film I have ever used, although there is too much contrast when using a red filter, but other than that it rules.

Strength:

Excellent grain and contrast characteristics.

I've printed sharp 16x20 enlargements that looked absolutely beautiful!

At this magnification the grain was apparent yet not objectionable.

The grain actually enhanced the feel and mood the photo.

I agree with with others that this film should be rated at 1200 ASA to provide ample detail in the shadow areas.

Weakness:

Not available in 120/220 format.

This is without a doubt the best high speed B&W film on the market, bar none! It provides the beautiful contrast of Tri-X at roughly 4X the speed. For a slower finer grained film, it's hard to beat Neopan 400.

If contrasty, high tonal range film, is not to your taste, you may want to try the Delta films from Illford. The Delta 400 film is very nice, but I prefer the higher contrast and speed of Neopan 1600.

Strength:

Excellent contrast, sharpness, gradation, and grain. Shows very good image characteristics despite its speed. Definitely better than some of the other high speed B&W films currently on the market.

Weakness:

Hard to come by in USA.

Negatives from this film are easy to print, show a full range of tones, and are sharper than you would expect from a 1600 speed film. If you can find it and you need a faster film, this is definitely a good choice.

Strength:

excellent contrast
-grain is GREAT for the speed!! great at 1600
Looks Ok at 3200 ( better than t-max or ilford delta)

Weakness:

None

I have made this my primary film for night club work w/ no flash. At 1600 has great detail/ shadow etc.. and grain is smooth, and not to noticable. at 3200 grain apparent ( developed w/ t-max in both cases) but not as much as as t-max/delta 3200 - and still lots of detail!
overall an excellent film for low light applications!

Strength:

Pronounced grain
Strong contrast
Fast (it's 1600, of course it's fast)

Weakness:

Hard to find.

I wanted to get some grainy B&W shots, but I don't process or print myself. So, instead of pushing (and begging for special processing) something like B&W+, i got some of this. And I love it.

The grain is strong, but again, that's what I wanted. 1600 is fast enough to handhold in almost any situation, with almost any lens.

I'm considering buying a box from B&H as it's a bit expensive a roll at a time from my local shop - and tough to find around here.

Incredible

Strength:

Unbelievable grain and tonality for ASA 1600!!!

Weakness:

None at the ASA.

In my opinion, this is an amazing film for point-and-shoot people. Very forgiving, excellent grain for the speed and great tonality.
