Strength:

Excellent grain and rich color depth. Good for fall foilage.

Weakness:

Can cause 'runny' reds if taken excessively.

A very good fine grained film

Strength:

Saturated colors. Price, Price, Price!
Good for landscapes.

Weakness:

Bad skin tones

Upon comparing three rolls of film from a recent vacation I found that the Superia prints were not superior for people photos. The skins tones were very red and little detail was visible in facial shots. Kodak Gold did much better. This seems the prints equivalant of Fuji Velvia, great for landscapes but far from the best for people.

Strength:

Excellent Color with excellent saturation on the reds and greens and amazing contrast impercemptable grain.

Weakness:

A little pasty on portraits, but dependant on lighting. Some where OK most so-so

An excellent film and will certainly become my film of choice. I might try some other films to get better skin tones as I am going to be shooting some portraits soon and the color is a little pasty for my liking. However for action/wildlife and scenincs this film is truly excellent. Images are tack sharp with really pleaing colors.

Strength:

Exceptionally tight grain withstands enlarging.

Well-balanced, neutral color. Works great for people as well as scenics.

Pushes to 640 very well, pushes to 800 OK.
Inexpensive!

Weakness:

None to speak of.

An excellent basic 400-speed film, and a superb value. I bought about 40 rolls for a trip, and each four-pack came with a $5 phone card. The film was practically free - but that's not why I chose it. I chose it over Royal Gold 400 for its tighter grain, better skintones, and better pushing.

Similar Products Used:

Kodak Royal Gold 400 (brighter, but a bit more grain). Fuji NPH (lower contrast, better skintones, more expensive, should be rated at 250).

Strength:

cheap
best consumer 400 print film

Weakness:

it's a good film, but skin either is ruddy or with flash, whitewashed

Very deep reds- almost too red...no too red. Any artificial reds in the picture make the reds glow like a neon red. ALthough if you are going for effect, this film delivers the bright colors. If not for Royal Gold 400, this is the sharpest consumer (think, "available at Walgreens") film for now. Red objects, though, don't have god edges, they're just bloody red. Where does this film work best- no flash, indoors or out. It has a nice smooth look to it in those conditions. A good film for overcast days under tree because the greens are also good- not as bloody red. I am used to Kodak 100/200/Royal 400, but this film is winning me over because it has pretty tight grain for a high speed film. Plus, it's just $2 more than a 4 pack of Gold 100- AND I get the speed bonus for indoor shots and fidgety kids. Good holiday film, but don't stick it into your Hexar, it's just too wild.

Strength:

Surprisingly fine-grained for a 400 speed film. Good colour reproduction.

Weakness:

None.

Fuji has made a quantum leap in the 400-speed consumer film category with this one. This became my General-Purpose film as it is extremely versatile. I've pushed it & over-exposed it (ISO320-250) with good results. Enlarged my pics up to 8 x 12 & that's about it for grain. Although contrast is high, portraits taken with this film turned out fine.

Strength:

good fine grain especially for speed 400 film. Good skin tones, good vibrant colors.

Weakness:

This is a great film. It is reasonably cheap, and has great performance. I like the fact that I can use this film with slower zooms, and still have a fine enough grain to enlarge my prints. Overall a great film

Strength:

cheap, bright colors,speed

Weakness:

very contrasty in midday

This is a cheap, good 400 speed print film. I now print my own b/w prints from color negs, using proper filtration and paper. This film looks sharp in 4x6 prints, but since I now enlarge 8x10 on a regular basis, this film is no way as sharp as any 100 speed film, especially tmx100 or even some old PlusX125 negs I had lying around. The grain in sky and out of focus area is very clumpy and fuzzy versus a more smooth look in 100 speed film. In contrasty parts of an image, there is good detail, but it is not sharp, it's gritty. For portraits, it is not smooth by any means, but with architectural and nature shots with clean shapes and edges, it works well- mostly for the speed. This will make me think twice about using my wide range zooms for ultimate print quality. For 4x6 prints, it's passable, but for quality enlargements, please try something else- Black hair strands cannot be seen with superia 400. Good for general purpose, saturated color shots. Not good for even 8x10 enlargements.
