Strength:

Incredibly vivid colours with great representation in sun and shadow.

Weakness:

None that I can see yet, besides the price being a little high.

I wouldn't consider myself a professional or a biginner, but, of all the various types of film(transpariencies and print) that I've used, Fuji Velvia 50 is the best. If you don't believe me...try it for yourself.

Strength:

Beautiful colors, terrific blues, greens, purples, wow! They look great!

Weakness:

Colors may not represent reality, for instance, my bluish flowers came out a shade of purple.

If Superia has got you bored out of your mind, like me, try this film. Beautiful saturated colors, although they may or may not be true to reality. Not the strongest reds, or yellows either for what I shot, cool colors all turned out much better for me.

Strength:

smooth grain, punchy colors, details, exposure latitude, consistent, available in various formats (35mm, 120, 220)

Weakness:

slow

Excellent for orchid (and product) photography. I've used this film consistently for almost two years and even recently expired film has performed well.

The colors can be a little punchy at times, but I find that it is due to the type of light used. Once I upgraded to a Dynalite system, my shots were improved dramatically - the colors were more realistic, punchier and the overall contrast was enhanced.

Kodachrome is excellent but it lacks the "presentation" punch you get with Velvia.

Lastly, I ALWAYS shoot Velvia at 40 ASA.

Strength:

Grain. Grain. Grain.
Color. Color. Color. Excellent pushability.

Weakness:

Speed. Speed. Speed.

I love to shoot LIGHNING with Velvia! Was film of choice until introduction of E100VS - I like the extra stop of light. Velvia's speed it it's drawback, but since it was developed to surpass Kodachrome 25, I cannot fault it, because it DOES surpass Kodachrome. Great 30" x 40" prints from 35mm. Beautiful greens.

Strength:

Very sharp
Nice colours

Weakness:

A bit un-natural, especially with face tones

This is a very sharp and colourful film, which is highly recommended for nature photography. Maybe not the best for portraits.

Strength:

fine grain

Weakness:

unrealistic color
fading problem

I have supported this film since its first introduction in the 1980's. Now, my earliest set of Velvia slides start to show sign of color fading, typical for E-6 process. I used to love its over the top, unrealistic color but at this point starting to get bored with it. (It's become a real turn off especially when it fades) I would rather go back to the good old Kodachrome. My parents' slide collection on Kodachrome still looks so fresh it looks like it was shot yesterday, no sign of color fading at all. That's amazing..

Strength:

Nice punchy color. The greens and blues are truely wonderful! Very sharp. Awesome for outdoor use.

Weakness:

E-6 processing can fade over time.

This is a great slide film. I've only shot one roll, and already I'm hooked! I'm a huge fan of Kodachrome, but this will probably become my favorite outdoor film.

I have just gotten back into photography after 8 years and I wanted to try a lot of different film. After looking at some websites and photographer's gear bags I tried Velvia. AWESOME..the first film or slide that brought remarkable color and contrast that I was happy with. I'm hooked on Velvia for landscape and travel photography for now.
