Strength:
Fast, excellent optics, light weight, razor sharp even wide open, lighter alternative to 300mm and 400mm lenses by using tele-converters
Weakness:
I have the Mk.1, so: I bought my 200/2.8L USM as second-hand at 1/3 of MSRP. All that was "wrong" with it was quite a lot of wear on the outside of the barrel. After running a few rolls of slide-film throug it I can guarantee that this lens is awesome. It's the second L in my backpack, and I'm NOT trading it. EVER! (Unless I get a brand spanking new one.) Strength:
Sharp, great contrast and color balance. Compact, internal focus.
Weakness:
None. Great compact telephoto. Probably less than half the size of the 70-200 2.8L, and although people will be impressed, they won't be frightened by its size. Sharper at 2.8 than the 70-200L. Color balance and contrast are just as good, if not better. Bought mine used with the tripod collar, which I found very helpful. The lens is not so heavy that I would worry about not using the collar, though. I have the Mark II version, which according to photodo.com, is slightly sharper than the Mark I. The removable larger hood makes it worthwhile over the Mark I, at any rate. Customer Service Never needed. Similar Products Used: Canon 70-200 2.8L |

EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM Lens
Strength:
The canon 200mm 2.8 lens is very sharp, lightweight and rugged. I´ve dropped it several times onto concrete floors, and the only thing that happened was that the lens hood got nicked.
Weakness:
Yes, my usm-motor collapsed (maybe from dropping the lens one time too many?). Fortunately, my employer payed the 400 bucks it cost to fix it. The autofocus sometimes seems to have trouble finding focus, but I don´t know why. A sharp and rugged lens, wich sometimes won´t find focus as it should. when it does it does its very silent, though. I trade my TOKINA 840 ATX 80 - 400 f/4.5-5.6
Weakness:
None so far ! This lens takes excellent quality pictures. Even with a doubler (2x) there is no visible degradation picture quality. My X TOKINA 840 80 -400mm f4.5-5.6 does not even come close even when I used it with my doubler. It is light only 26 ounces. I took excellent pictures without Customer Service n/a Similar Products Used: Tokina 270 ATX PRO f2.6 -2.8, Canon 20-35 f3.5 -4.5 USM |
