EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Strength:
Fast aperture, light, cheap and very sharp.
Weakness:
No distance scale, noisy motor and weak construction. Broke mine in two but fortunately I could glue it back together. Great lens for its price. Recommended to every EOS user. Customer Service Not needed. Just get a new one when it fails. Similar Products Used: Canon EF 50 1.8 MKI |

EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Strength:
It is very inexpensive, but is much sharper than a comparable zoom. Very light weight. Good to have on the camera when weight and a low f/stop are important.
Weakness:
No A lens that is cheap, but good optically. The 50 mm 1.4 is almost 4 times more expensive. If you need a basic, relatively fast 50 mm lens that won't break the bank, this is it. Customer Service never used Similar Products Used: Canon consumer grade zooms, tamron 28-200 zoom. |

EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Strength:
-Lightweight, compact
Weakness:
Not USM, focusing is slightly slower and louder but not such a real concern Inexpensive and well worth having lens. It's cheap so you can throw it around and don't care if it gets trashed. This is actually my second Canon 50mm 1.8 II lens because the first one I exchanged for a Tamron 90mm 2.8 Macro (which is also a "recommend") but afterwards I felt that I wanted the 50mm also. Strength:
Small, light, cheap, sharp, "disposable"
Weakness:
manual focus ring is difficult to use with the lens hood in place. This is a great lens for the price. It is so inexpensive, there is no need to take out insurance on it, if it breaks just buy a new one (can't do that with an L series lens!). The pictures are sharp, and the color representaion is accurate. The absence of USM is a non issue to me, as long as it can focus faster than I can focus manually, I am happy. Weakness:
too light, build quality not so good, especially... I use this prime as a backup for a zoom lense during my trip, just had couple of shots, need to judge the result later, BUT, there is something between the elements, maybe a bubble in the lense!!!
