Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II 35mm Primes

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II 35mm Primes

DESCRIPTION

This is the lightest EF lens of all at a mere 130g. Compact and high-performance, standard lens. Its Gaussian optics provide sharp delineation from near to far focusing distances. The color balance is excellent for a standard lens.

Strength:

Cheap, small, lite.

Weakness:

Feels cheap - but no problems, loud compared to USM.

This is cheap and worth the 70 bucks. You can't beat it for the price. At 1.8 you can toss this on when you need those extra f-stops. Buy it, you won't regret it.

Strength:

Cheap.
Respectable results.

Weakness:

None.

This is one cheap lens that will NOT yield cheap results. I highly recommend this to anyone seeking respectable results rather than technical fancy. With a price range of $50 to $90, you cannot go wrong with this lens.

Forget the build quality. Forget the USM and FTM. Forget the DOF window. Forget the metal mount. I say go for the results!

And this lens can deliver.

Customer Service

No need.

Weakness:

Plastic construction

Although this lens is constructed of plastic, it's optics are topnotch, and for the price, it cannot be beat. Images made from this lens are easily blown up to 11x14 and larger. For anyone debating which lens to get with a body, this should be a no-brainer.

Canon ef 50mm 1:11.8 lens came with, old 850 canon eos. Droped in salt water in Maine. Worked fine after a months drying no repairs. Four years ago and still takes crisp clear pics.

Weakness:

none.............

Great single focus lens for a complete dunder head like me, who drops it in salt water.Have used it for all types of photos and has never let me down yet. Upgraded to 35-105. But still go back to it for top quality.

Strength:

Light wieght. No distortion. No flare or ghosting. Low prize.

Weakness:

Open construction inside. Smoke and debree deposits grows inside this lens. Too many elements are not sealed. The result is that the lens ages. The lens brand new is great, but the one I had delined by the years. Sharpness grew terrible. My current Minolta lenses do not have these problems.

I loved this lens, but it grew soft. Compared to Minolta`s lenses, I cannot recomend this one.

Strength:

Bought 6 years ago while in photo-j school; this lens has never failed me, though I have failed it by dropping it many times; it remains very sharp; the plastic mount is still tight; light.

Weakness:

Manual focus ring is inconvenient and funny looking. Slow focus compared to USM.

Looks, feels, is cheap. Does its job. Value to performance ratio unsurpassed.

Customer Service

Strength:

super sharp lens, super fast aperture, super cheap in price

Weakness:

super cheap build, bad sealing against dust, all plastic which is bad for heavy users.

the cheapest sharpness-price ratio lens canon has. this lens blows away all consumer zooms, including the 28-105, 28-135, and 24-85. perfect for beginners who want to learn about the fundamentals of photography. this lens is amazingly sharp closed down to about f4-f5.6

Customer Service

don't even bother, just throw it away and get another one... it'll be cheaper that way.

Strength:

Great lens doesn't come any cheaper than this.
It will beat most if not all consumer zoomers hands down.
Sharpness @ f/4.0 onwards is amazing.
No noticable distortion.
Fast. Lively AF, it is as fast as EF 28-105, only noiser.
Light and compact

Weakness:

Canon has a nice name for it: polycarb: PLASTIC.
I had a chance to examine this lens inside out when it came apart after i drop the thing: conclusion: this lens might as well be made of Lego blocks.
The 3 front elements which are fused together are attached to the rest of the lens by ~ get ready: Plastic clips, like the ones used in snap-on car models. The EMD is also held into place similarly, the rear elements fits via a plastic mount. I don't think lens is meant to be repaired, the only screws inside are used to secure the AF motor and its gears. The AF switch is mechanical which explains why it is so ruff.

Very Good for students or those who want to compare a prime to the zooms they are using.
Also for those who want a fast lens for very little money, but then again if you want to take flash-less pics indoor the widerEF35 f/2.0(cost abt 3 times more) makes better sense.

Customer Service

Strength:

Amazingly cheap. Amazingly sharp. Amazingly light.
Fast for the money.

Weakness:

Plastic mount and body, uses an ancient focusing motor that sounds as if a cat is getting its heart removed. Not amazingly fast focusing.

The f1.4 is better, but three to four times more expensive. Best value for money.

Very Sharp, excellent photo quality

Weakness:

Bad build quality, slow in focusing

It produces much better optical quality than the EF28-105, not to mention the Sigma 28-200. A must have lens for serious beginner.
