Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II 35mm Primes

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II 35mm Primes

DESCRIPTION

This is the lightest EF lens of all at a mere 130g. Compact and high-performance, standard lens. Its Gaussian optics provide sharp delineation from near to far focusing distances. The color balance is excellent for a standard lens.

Strength:

Excellent photo quality lens VERY inexpensive

Weakness:

cheap build but handled properly it'll last a long time

One word ... value! Cheap price for excellent quality photos. For the most part, I've got the 50mm covered with a few lenses but this lens is an excellent lens to throw a few bucks at and at the cost well worth it. Doesn't get used much but nice to have when needed and takes up little room.

Strength:

Amazing Value for money Super Optics Light

Weakness:

Poor build Quality (understandable at this price)

The best bargain on the planet!! I am constantly amazed by the results I get from this little lens. Optically it is an excellent lens producing very sharp images at apertures of f2.8 and above. Build quality is not good but who cares - for this sort of money!!

I get a grin from ear to ear when I see the results that this lense can produce. I have recently been using Fuji Reala and concentrating on shooting primarily with this lense. The results have been nothing short of amazing!!! It is a great lense for taking people pictures and still objects. I would highly recommend this lense to anyone who is looking to get impressive results with a relatively inexpensive lense.

Strength:

everything

Weakness:

People always winge and complain about build quality of Nikon and Canon cheap 50mm Lens. Anybody that complains about such a bargain and the optics you get for a measly $150 Australian dollars then they arent into photography that much, cause they dont appreciate what real lens can do !!! The best photos of all time (in old days) were all taken with 50mm lens !!! anyone thats serious about photography and about learining what composition really is, wont use a wimpy zoom that forces them to stay still and zoom the lens, but will move themselves to compose, and even if its not possible to move into a composable spot, then thats the beauty of photography and perspective as it forces you to take action in other ways !!!

This lens is amazing - really is !!! How for the price can ANYBODY pass this up ! For $150 you get one of the fastest lens money can buy, you get supreme sharpness, supreme colour rendition, lightness and just an all round winner, there is nothing more to say about this !!

Strength:

Sharp,light,autofocus ok for a sub $100 lens

Weakness:

plastic mount and noisy

The perferomance is lower if compared with the 1.4 USM model, what are you expecting ? It costs less than a half of the 1.4 USM price. It's a very compact and lightweight lens delivering quite a punch for the money. If you are looking for a very nice lens and don't wanna spend $200 or more, you can't go wrong.

Strength:

Cheap and good!

Weakness:

Read other reviews: it can fall in pieces when you hit something with your lens. So don't!

I just bought the EF 50mm 1.8 II lens from Canon, and am convinced that this is a good lens. It allows for sharp indoor and outdoor images with nice background blurring. I know you have to be carefull walking around with this lens, but it does not feel "cheap" at all. The AF is OK. I frequently use the manual focus, and that also works well. I do not share the opinion of other users that the manual focus is useless because of the small rim at the end of the lens. AF is also very fast (noisy??).

Strength:

Sharp. And I mean SHAAARRRRPPP. Good color reproduction, practically immune to flare, small filter size (52mm), price, light.

Weakness:

Prime (that is a disadvantage to me), cheap build quality, looks rather silly on large cameras (1D range)

It's simply a crime not to own this lens if you shoot Canon EF. Can't beat the optical quality as well as the fabulous f/1.8 aperture for that price. It's just great.

Strength:

Very good optical quality Low price

Weakness:

Poor build quality

It's an excellent lens for someone who wants to get the highest quality photos for a very low price. Even wide open the lens is pretty useful - although a bit soft the resolution is OK. I recommend this lens to everybody who owns a zoom like 28-80 f3.5-5.6 - the difference in image quality and speed is REALLY worth spending money on it. The only problem is the low bulid quality. In mine the front part of the lens tends to vibrate and gives of a strange noise while fucusing from distant to close objects. The manual focusing ring is very thin and placed on the front of the lens - you won't be pleased by the comfort of manual focusing. The AF/MF swith moves definitely too heavily. And the plastic lens mount... Unfortulately, Canon has discontinued the previous version of this lens which was much better mechanically. Nevertheless, I strongly recommend this lens as a permit to a proffesional quality results in photography.

Strength:

Value, Low-light capabilities, sharp photos

Weakness:

Can a 75-100 dollar lens have weakenesses?

Great lens for less than 100 bucks. Buy one now, if you can find one. Great for indoor shooting without flash. It's low-light capabilities are great, and it take sharp photos. I would say don't spend more than 100 bucks unless it's a lens with the metal mount. Either way, it's sweet. I use it on my 300D and it's great.

Strength:

- light - crisp - f/1.8 - fast AF - GREAT price

Weakness:

A metal construction would be nice. But I'll take plastic for this great price!

This is a very light and sharp lens for an awesome price! The 1.8 is wonderfully fast and crisp. Lens produces a beautiful photo on almost any setting. A necessity!! Thank you Canon!
