Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX Fisheye 35mm Primes

Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX Fisheye 35mm Primes

DESCRIPTION

There's simply nothing like a 180° fisheye to turn ordinary scenes into extraordinary photographs. With this one, no special finder is required, and an integral lens hood helps minimize glare. Thanks to its unique 8 element/7-group design and multi-coating, contrast and edge definition are excellent. A rear filter holder accepts gelatin filters.

Strength:

(1) Small and quite sharp
(2) Excellent build quality
(3) Fast quiet AF
(4) Nice manual focus feel
(5) Inexpensive compared to its Nikon counter part

Weakness:

Gel filters

Purchased the Sigma 15/2.8 Fisheye for my Nikon N90s, F3HP and D50 and all I have to say is this lens is outstanding. It's very sharp and quite resistant to flair. It's small and compact and manual focus is superb. Well worth the price.

Strength:

images-brilliant! close focus build price (compared to similar alternatives)

Weakness:

exposed lens-be conscious of how close you get to your subject(s) AF-not a serious complaint. But hey, nothing is perfect.

I've had this lens for about a month, purchased new for $420 Cdn, and am so impressed I must contribute my two cents. This lens is sharp, and yields terrific images. It has a close focus range. And on a Nikon D70, with the 1.5 crop, you get comfortable distortion-a fisheye that isn't outrageous, making it very usable for news photography, while giving you enough room for close-up play. The build is great, though without the cap and cover (which are also very good and metal), you have to be careful not to touch the glass as you can't use screw-on filters. You can use one on the hood and leave it on, but then you have to deal with the black-corners from vignetting in photoshop (I prefer images untouched, straight from the camera). The build is very nice, solid and not cheap. AF speed isn't super fast, but quick enough for anything you'd use such a lens for. Oh yes, and compared to Nikon's 16mm, 14mm or 10mm, this one is cheap dollar-wise. Honestly, I have read a lot of bad things about Sigma lenses, about bad copies and whatnot. And though this lens, typically gets good reviews, I was very apprehensive. I now understand why it's so well regarded-it's a greatlens and a great investment. I love it!

Customer Service

none as of yet. keeping fingers crossed.

Strength:

sharpness 2.8 aperture very usable oh and did I tell it is sharp?

Weakness:

no HSM, loud focussystem (like being at the dentist) slow focus, hunting sometimes vulnerable at the front, no filter protection, altough with a 10D you can leave the hood on, gives only slight vignetting that you would cut out with de-fishing anyway

An amazing piece of glass. It is sharp from corner to corner at F2.8! (and I mean sharp as in sharp, not the result of high DOF) Distortion can easily be corrected with free defish Panotools plug-in for Photoshop, this makes it a fun, usable, lightweight and sturdy, multipurpose lens.

Strength:

Always sharp, built extremely well

Weakness:

none that I can think of

Great lens for abstract work and simply having fun. I can't get enough of the funky things you can do with this lens. Complements my 17-35 wide very nicely, and it's a great lens to have in your case for the odd situation that pops up and demands something different.

Strength:

- quality of build - sharp - price - aperture of f/2.8

Weakness:

Auto focus is a bit slow, but it doesn't matter when taking landscape photos.

The best fisheye for the buck. Excellent price for the things you can do with it. Very good build quality and the sharpness of images. Great for general outdoor and humor/candid shots.

Strength:

Maybe not as well made as it's Nikon equivalent, but it's still appears to be rugged enough to do the job. It's fast, has a built in lens shade, comes with a nice case and did I say that it's CHEAP! Sigma quality, for the price is about the best there is, and I'm not big on off-brand lenses.

Weakness:

Auto focus is a tad slow compared to my 24mm. Colors not quite as vibrant as Nikon, maybe a bit softer, but well worth the price.

This is a well-made and very reasonably priced 15mm lens. It's fun to use a delivers a tremendous perspective to your photography. I've only shot a couple of rolls of print film with this neat piece of glass, but I'm really glad I made this purchase.

None that I''ve found yet.

Great lens, especially for the price. Sharp, good contrast, and good control of flare. f/2.8 is great for use indoors where it really opens up space. Gets it all in like nothing else.

Strength:

Decent control of flare considering nature of lens. Close focusing ability lends tremendous creative control. In this case, WA distortion is a benefit. Metal construction. Good feel when focusing manually. Built-in lenshood a nice touch. Uses gelatin filters at rear (metal tempate provided).

Weakness:

The use of gelatin filters makes the use of a polarizing filter awkward.

Welcome addition to arsenal. Ability to close-focus and achieve wide view tremendous. Very good optically and mechanically --- at a decent price.
