    nice size, well built, love the focusing ring clutch

    Weakness:

    none, would have preferred a BLACK color, but how big of a deal is that?

    great lense, exceptional quality for this price range, anything comparable is MUCH more expenseive

    Strength:

    Ease of use, sharp, lightweight

    Weakness:

    No

    This lens yields 1:1 magnification and is a very sharp and handy lens if you want to do macro. Many people asked me why I did not purchase the Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro instead. I can say that I'm completely satisfied with this Tamron lens and leaves me no reason for exchanging for the Canon.

    Strength:

    - razor sharp
    - light weight
    - 1:1 macro
    - focusing range limiter is useful

    Weakness:

    - not extremely robust
    - slow focussing when compare with my Canon USM

    I rarely use it for macro, mainly for portrait
    Trust me, it outperforms EF 85mm 1.8 optically for sure

    Strength:

    Sharp, sharp, sharp. Durable despite its plasticy looking finish. I've had this lens 5 years without a lick of problems. At the time I bought it, I compared it to the Sigma 105 macro and they were equal in image quality but I went for the Tamron because of its surer feeling switches and slightly faster focussing performance.

    Weakness:

    It hunts for focus much more than Canon's newest 100mm macro USM lens.

    A great sharp lens. If I were spending my money today I would seriously consider dropping the extra $200 for the Canon 100mm macro to get the speed and convenience of USM. I'm knocking one point off it's overall rating because of the slow focus.

    Strength:

    Extremely sharp, good contrast and colors.

    Weakness:

    Auto focus tends to wander.

    This is a terrific lens, especially for the price. It compares well to all the so-called name lenses. I use it mostly for macro work and find it to be extremely sharp even into the small apertures. I also used it recently on some landscapes and it worked beautifully. The auto-focus is a problem but I rarely use it.

    I dont see why you have to pay an extra $300 to get a CANON 100MM Macro lens ??? This lens is extremely sharp and allows me to take professional quality macro photos of products and nature. Save your $300 to buy professional film for practice......good optics without good techniques are a waste.

    Strength:

    Impressive macro
    Works well with N90s
    Nice resolution

    Weakness:

    None

    I use this lens for macro and in that capacity it has won me several awards for pictures of flowers and insects. The resolution of the lens is not quite that of the Nikkor 60/2.8 which is razor sharp, but with flowers this lens at 8X10 to 8X12 provides a slight softening of flowers which gives them almost a painted quality if printed properly. The working distance is nice (about 12") and the lens works well with the Tamron 2X multiplier which produces a decent 180/2.8 with 2:1 macro.

    Strength:

    1. sharp;
    2. very good out-of-focus image;
    3. 1:1 lifesize
    4. build quality very good despite plasticky look

    Weakness:

    1. AF slow
    2. AF->MF switch very awkward

    I bought this lens during a small window of time when I could get it for $400 and still got a $50 rebate. What a lens! Very sturdy despite the plastic finish, front element is well recessed in the barrel so a lens shade is not necessary (supplied). Feels very balanced on my A2 so I can even take some macro shots handheld! AF is slow and AF/MF switch very awkward (it uses a clutch mechanism), but for macro work I use MF anyway.
