Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM 35mm Zoom

Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM 35mm Zoom

DESCRIPTION

Standard zoom lens with an Image Stabilizer and high zoom ratio. With the Image Stabilizer turned on, you can obtain sharp, natural-looking pictures in dim lighting without using flash or a tripod. Very handy for places where flash is prohibited. Uses ring-type USM for swift, silent autofocus and full-time manual focus. Closest focusing distance is 20 in. (50 cm).

Strength:

Focusing, sharp images, capture what you have taken.

Weakness:

the F stop restriction, could do with more F stops, would make this a wonderful lens. Lens creep when holding camera facing down.

This is my everyday, take everywhere lens. I wasn't sure at first that I had made the right choice with this lens, until I saw what this lens was capable of compared to the images I had been taking. Problem I had was, I had the camera on auto everything and took no control of the camera. Once I took some control the beauty of this lens shines through and the images a great. It is sharp, precise, forgiving and focuses quickly when needed. I think it has a good build quality, although I take great care with my equipment.

Customer Service

Excellent, fix things quickly and at times for free.

Strength:

-IS. It works! It let me take some very sharp pictures of the Statue of Liberty from the deck of the Staten Island Ferry that would not have turned out as well using a non-stabilized lense. -great focal range for travel

Weakness:

-distortion at the wide end. Try to avoid shooting architecture or crowds with this lense between 28-35mm. People's heads start to look very odd when distorted that much... -speed. IS does give you an extra stop or two but at the long end it would be nice if this lense were faster.

This is probably the best travel lense you can buy for your EOS camera. It may lack the range of a 28-200, and some people may find it a tad big, but the quality of the pictures you'll get make it worth the $$ over a cheaper zoom with greater range. Not only that, but the IS makes travel photography a lot easier - you can get shots you might not otherwise be able to get, and you'll get them faster.

Strength:

Great range, good macro at 135, IS, very quick focusing with USM... The quality of photo is superior to 28-105 even if it is impossible to find the difference at F8 or so. The more you step up, the more the difference comparing to 28-105 which is 'still good' lens. If you were not satisfied with 28-105, you should try this lens unless you are willing to pay $1000 for 28-70L lens. Great lens for a 'normal user and hobbiest'. I would recommend this lens over 28-105.

Weakness:

Zoom falls down when you take it vertically - no zoom lock. 72mm filter size in terms of its price. No hood included.

Twice more expensive than 28-105, but it worth the money. I don't think 30mm more angle of view is great, but it has better macro at 135. IS function does buy one or one and a half shutter speed, but must notice it can't replace the tripod.

Strength:

Sharp and contrasty on slides USM Focus - quick and silent Full time manual focus Good as a macro - can focus about 40cm from the lens IS is great Price for this value Just one step behind Canon 28-70L

Weakness:

Zoom should be smoother

I like this lens very much. It is the best walk-around lens for EOS system. The slides are sharp and contrasty. IS helps when the light is weak. USM is fast and quite. The only weakness is the zoom action which should be much smoother.

Strength:

IS IS and IS Good contrast and fast autofocus

Weakness:

Not really a weakness but my old crappy zoom is at 58 mm, now I have to invest in new filters. A little expensive for Indonesia

I really like this lens, compared to the crappy 28-80 that comes with my rebel G. At first I consider to replace old rebel with Elan 7 or better, but now I really realized that the better aspect of photography is gotten from the lens, not the body. Think I'll stick with the old rebel quite a bit longer and prove that an Old body can still work wonders with a good lens and good techniques (presumably :D )

Strength:

Image Stabilization far outweighs any weakness this lens might have.

Weakness:

Big & Heavy When held vertically, zoom "falls" down Expen$ive

This is a very good lens...I have been using it on my D30 and then my D60. It's bigger and heavier than other 28-135s, but I'm sure that's because of the Image Stabilization. The IS buys you at least 2, and maybe even 3, stops of exposure. For example, I handheld a shot at f/22 and 1/20th with absolutely no blur. If this is valuable to you, then you should spend the extra $$$ it takes to get Image Stabilization...when you got to have it, you got to have it.

Strength:

IS really works GREAT Picture quality is Good

Weakness:

A bit heavy

I have been using this lens for just 2 weeks and the pictures I have taken through this lens have come out great. The IS works great. I handheld my Elan 7 for 15seconds and the image had very less blur. Ya, i know i should really be using a tripod but i dont have it yet. But my point is it works great! Most of my photos were taken with Shutter speeds less than 1/30sec and it worked great.
