Strength:

Very sharp
Very well built
Fast lens

Weakness:

A bit Heavy and Bulky for it's zoom range

If you dont want/like to carry BIG and HEAVY glass, this thing is not for you, but if SHARPNESS, LARGE APERTURE, and that "Pro" Feel are of any importance to you, read on:

This lens instantly became my main travel Lens, I do carry the 100-300 5.6 L too and find that the 28-70 is on the camera 80% of the time

The thing is bulky, and heavy (compared to the USM 28-105, and 28-135 USM IS lenses), and it would be nice to have a few more milimeters at the long end, but one or two steps usually remedy the situation, and the large f/2.8 aperture and overall performance of the lens make you forget the weight and how much you paid for it.

Beware of Canon's "L" series lenses, they are addictive, once you get one, you´ll want to get more of them. they are pricey, but they are worth every penny in terms of sharpness, durability, Feel , etc.

Strength:

Fast AF!Sharp!Contrasty(somtimes to contrasty.)

Weakness:

A bit difficult to put on the shade, otherwise none.

A great multipurpose lens.I use it for most of the time.(I also have a 20-35,2,8L+70-200,4,0L)
Good for portraits and documentary.
I really recommed it.It´s huge but it has to be in order to be what it is.
So I can´t complain.I have been using it for 4yrs.
No complains at all!

Strength:

Tack sharp. Extremely well built.

Weakness:

None.

This is probably the best 35mm AF lens out there. Built like a tank and can stand up to anything. However, this is a pro lens and if you're an amateur, aim for one of the lower priced Canons instead. There a "just right" lens for every use out there, one just has to learn what to use and when...
Weight not a concern since all pro grade lenses will weigh quite a bit and that's just something you'll have to learn to live with...

Customer Service

Great thing about using Canon pro grade equipment is that there's hardly ever any need for customer service...

Strength:

Fast ! Crisp sharp ! Incredible piece of glass !

Weakness:

Expensive ! Heavy !

This is one great lens !!! I have used the Sigma 28-70 F2.8 EX and the sharpness at wide open is extremely poor compared to this lens. This lens makes my viewfinder so bright, and every pictures turn out like those in postcards. Even when used in people photography, this lens deliver the goods ! Worth every penny if you have much :>

Strength:

Very fast and sharp optics, very easy to work through zoom range, perfect lens on my D30.

Weakness:

Cost, plastic construction.

This lens is very fast, the USM focuses very fast and rock solid. This lens when combined with the 70-200L USM is the perfect combo.

Customer Service

Very good in the past.

Strength:

Extremely sharp zoom lens. The USM motor is silent and rapid. Enlargements from fine grained ISO 100 reversal film is sharp to the corners. 11" X 14" prints are razor sharp.

Weakness:

A bit heavy and bulky

An expensive lens that is well worth the price

Strength:

Extremely sharp, even wide open, fast focusing, quiet ,but not as quiet as 70-200 f2.8L USM although no one but you would actually hear it ;-)

Weakness:

Maybe a little bulky for a zoom in this range.

My second favorite lens right behind my 70-200 f2.8L USM. At first seemed a little bulky for its zoom range but I found the size to actually be helpful for fast handling and manual focus override.
