Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM 35mm Zoom

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM 35mm Zoom

DESCRIPTION

Incorporating Canon’s second generation Image Stabilization technology, this telephoto zoom responds in as little at 0.5 seconds, while providing up to three stops of correction for camera shake. Its AF system has been refined for better response time and tracking speed. And even the new 8-blade circular aperture offers a more pleasing out-of-focus image. Constructed to pro standards, this fast zoom is also highly resistant to dust and moisture, too.

Strength:

IS f/2.8 solid construction most used focal lengths (70-200) for me

Weakness:

None really . . . Some would say the price, but look at what you get. I think its about the right price. Some may also say its to heavy, but for me it feels good and solid.

This lens is all that and a bag of chips. :) The 3rd generation IS really works - 1/30 + 200mm = sharp results. Yes it''s heavy, but after just a couple of days working with it - it rests nicely in your hands. (and I''m a small guy- 130lb) I use it on my EOS3 and the AF is extremely fast, and very quiet. This lens also gets you into places - just because it screams "PRO" This is a professional lens and if your not planning on being (or are) a professional, then don''t buy it. Its a great lens, (very sharp) and if you can afford it - GET IT! - its worth every penny. Especially the IS.

Strength:

You can hand hold at shutter speeds you never dreamed. I photographed a X-mas Lightfest for a customer and had one camera on a tripod and I was testing this lens so I just hand held the 70-200 to see how it would hold up, and I got a sellable images shooting at night with this lens.

Weakness:

none

But it, But it, But it. This is a phenominal lens. There is not anything negative to say about this lens. I have used it everyday since I have purchased it and I am amazed everytime I download my photos from my Canon D30''''s. The 3 stop I.S. is probably 4 stops. And with the 2X tele-converter you have a 140-400 5.6, w. 3 stop I.S., so you don''''t need the 100-400 I.S. Which is also a great lens.

Customer Service

Strength:

70-200 2.8L range, 2.8, relatively quiet, quality material and workmanship. Great cameras =design, materials and workmanship: throw out the I.S. and design is perfect.

Weakness:

moderate focus speed. helps suck up my batteries. Value (price/function)

I.S. is a great concept in theory for still cameras. However, it is only practiacally realized in video. 70-200 2.8L without the I.S. is the winner here. Know when to use your support (i.e. monopod/tripod) and choose your film carefully. At this zoom range you can''t miss with the regular 70-200 2.8L (I OWN this one). I.S. is not a necessary function, especially at the higher price is has been marked at. (sorry for ending my sentence with a preposition). But this is not one of Canon''s more promising propositions.
