Strength:

Sharp at all focal lengths!
Great color
Fast autofocus
Perfect for travel, light and 28-105 range

Weakness:

None that I have found yet

This is the perfect lense for travel. Sharp and usuable at all focal lengths. The other lenses I will add are 24mm f2.8, 105mm 2.8 macro and the 70-300mm zoom. That should cover everything I need.

Get this lense quick as I have been told that the price is going up.

Strength:

1. Good Focal Length Range for travel/daily use.
2. Light weight
3. Sharp to 11" x 14" enlargements at all FL
4. Nice color rendition
5. Focuses fast on F801
6. Aperture range is better than most zooms (F4.5 at 105mm)
6. Macro feature is a welcome addition.
7. Filter size is common

Weakness:

1. Somewhat bulky due to large body diameter.
2. Aperture ring is sticky and difficult to reach (for those w/ big fingers)
3. Aperture lock is so small and difficult to reach ( I use my nails to move it!)
4. Filter ring rotates while zooming making use of polarizer inconvenient.
5. Plastic construction might not be suitable for the heavy user or professional.
6. Vigneting at 28mm is apparent.
7. Tricky macro switch -
you need to keep the macro procedure in mind

1. Good performer overall.
2. Sharp images and nice color rendition
3. Flare is well controlled.
4. Price seems to be in error - cheap for a Nikon and with good performance
5. Very convenient for a travel photographer

Buy it now before it is discontinued when Nikon comes out with the 28-135mm VR zoom which will cost a fortune!!Or if suddenly, Nikon discovers their pricing error on this lens and jacks up the price!!

Strength:

Economical ($350). Great all around lens, 28mm for wide angle, 105mm for portrait. Very sharp picture at all range. Quite light in weight compared to 24-120mm.

Weakness:

I can't notice any major difference with the Macro function.

This is my first lens with my first SLR (N80). Great combination after intense research thru different sites. I just don't want a 50mm prime lens and swap to another lens for wide angle. This is the "all purpose" lens that fits most of my need (regular landscape to close up portrait). I will buy a 80-200mm/f2.8 later if I have the budget. Then, I think I will be prepared for almost any kind of shooting for a casual user.

Great travel zoom lens; Well worth the money spent. This and the 70-300mm for light weight travel photography is a killer combination.

Strength:

Sharp, contrasty, convenient macro function, fairly lightweight, good range, good quality, great value. Focuses fast on F100.

Weakness:

None for a lens in this price range. Would like to get the 28-70 2.8 AF-S, but that is a whole different world of money and weight.

A great lens for the money. I take it with me everywhere, very convenient and compact. Good enough for enlargements up to 11"x14". SOME MENTIONED THAT IT GETS STUCK IN MACRO MODE. THIS IS NOT TRUE. What happens is that, when you focus close in macro, the selector switch will not let you go back to normal until you focus farther away. This is a safety interlock to protect the focusing mechanism. Simply point the lens to infinity, focus, and then it is easy to switch off the macro.

Strength:

Lightweight, versatile, fast, sharp

Weakness:

MACRO SWITCH!!! It gets stuck in macro position, and let's just say it's not the easiest thing to get it unstuck. Also, the lens hood is so big.

I love the versatility of this lens. It's so compact and not too heavy. I have had brilliant results with it. I was worried initially about vignetting, but so far I haven't experienced any problems with that. The one caveat is that darn macro switch. I know I am not the only one to have experienced problems with it. It doesn't get stuck all the time, but when you need to be able to go in and out of macro, don't count on that switch working every time. This is the one lens I reach for no matter what I am shooting.

Sharp beyond belief, great for wide landscapes and sunsets. I LOVE this lens.

Weakness:

None that I have found.

For your standard, sharp wide angle lens this is the one to rely on, know you'll always get the best you can from the shot and that's that. DO NOT try to get this width (24) in one of those zooms (like the POS 24-120). Nothing can hold a candle to the prime 24mm.

Similar Products Used:

Nikkor 24mm 2.0 AIS (but this was heavier and more prone to flare, not worth the extra stop for the extra money IMHO).

Strength:

This lens is high quality compaired to the lenses in its class. Though not sold as professional it has the picture quality that I was looking for.

Weakness:

Plastic parts. (lighter though)

High quality lens with a moderate price. Could be priced a little lower i think. The glass is supurb. I think the trade off of plastic is a good one. The bottom line is what you look at when you receive your prins. I think this lins is much better than the Canon 28-105. Like everyone else I think 24-120 would be better.
