Disregarded all the owner's feed backs listed below, I still brought one in so called near mint condition. Never have had any lens was not made in Japan, here comes the first one(made in Thailand). I couldn't believe it's a Nikon lens, looks like a plastic toy to me. On the performance side, well, it's really not bad for that price. Tried indoor, outdoor, dayshot, night shot, very satified with the results, which make this lens a wonderful spare lens, sorry to say that, just can't keep myself from thinking it will break down at any minute.

Strength:

Let me think....good optics, good pictures..sometimes.

Weakness:

lens shaft wiggles, quality, flare

It was a good lense at first, before I found out that there was a clump of fiber inside the lens, and I could not take it out, so I exchanged it for the "G" series lense, which is a good lense. I guess I would recommend it for beginners because it is cheap and it came with the kit.

Strength:

Cost, lightweight

Weakness:

Poor construction, plastic mount, questionable durability

If this is all you can afford, then you probably do not want to buy the camera. Save for the 28-105 or 24-120. Those are MUCH BETTER lenses.

Customer Service

Problem was delt with at Ritz camera; they provided poor service (and lied at the point of sale)

Weakness:

Sooooo soft.

This is a cheap lens and a good value for the money. Do not expect razor sharp images from it. Even at f8 it's still soft. I have Samsung Evoca 140S and those German lenses are SHARP. This is a lens that will be definetly will be raplaced ( it came with the kit originally)

Strength:

Afforable lens. Great for beginners/occasional users. Clarity was not bad. I have enlarged photos to 8x10 and larger and haven't noticed a drop in image quality. As long as you stick with 200 speed film and faster you should be fine.

Weakness:

Occasional vignetting. Probally due to the fact that I did have a UV and a polarizing filters on. A slow on the focus, especially in low light conditions.

Most average people taking pictures in the automatic mode at 4x6, the quality comes out fine. This is not a professional quality lens. What do you expect for a $100. I have outgrown this lens. Looking to purchase the faster Nikon 24-85mm D f2.8-4 lens.

Customer Service

Haven't had any problems with the lens. Had a problem with a nikon APS camera and the Cust Srv Rep wasn't very friendly and helpful. I had ordered it through the nikonmall and they took about a month for them to exchange it. They didn't know what the status on camera was.

Strength:

has a Nikon label
on it

Weakness:

All plastic disposable lens. Diaphragm failed just after first four shots. I never had such experience before,
even with no-name lens.

This lens is garbage and not worth buying.
Well if you want to buy budget lens, don't look for those produced by "big" brands like
Nikon/Minolta/Pentax etc.
Sigma or Tamron produce much cheaper lens,
which are much much better for the price.

Customer Service

I gave it back.
I'm going to buy Tamron
24-105: far much better
for comparable price

Strength:

Dirt cheap
Surprisingly sharp
Surprisingly tough

Weakness:

Feels like cheap plastic
Barrel wobbles
Slow & noisy AF

Included as a no-cost extra (I got a good deal!)

Despite the flimsy feel of this lens it is surprisingly tough - mine was dropped onto a concrete driveway the first day I has it (attached to an F-60) They bounced and have never given any trouble.

Image quality is much better than i would have expeceted, especially given the loose wobbly nature orf the barrel.

I got this lens really cheap when I bought an F90x a while ago. This lens is very uncharacteristic of what a Nikon Product used to be. I use it as a reference point to describe optical garbage. We often put up with crappy optics for the sake of convenience, but this lens is the crappiest I had felt, and that's including brands most people had never heard of before. I had never owned anything so slow before. It was almost impossible to focus indoors without infra red focus assist type speedlight. I thought this lens was useless. I ended up giving it away after a week or so. My advice to people who are considering getting this lens is "Don't do it".
You can pick up a second hand Nikkor zoom that will do a much better job for around the same price.

Will not cause the owner to panic when dropped or lost.......

Weakness:

*sigh*
*silence*.......

should have listened to my old man....... i can't believe the quality man, i mean sharpness wise... the worse i've seen.. yet... even my 2 yr old Minolta P&S is much sharper.....
Came wif my F80... thought was getting a bargain at AUS $150... and that the name 'Nikon' should at least guarantee something... but i was wrong..

still, I luv all my other Nikkors though :) and my dad's FM2... i think i'll give this lens away someday..... saving money to get a Nikkor 105 mm Micro and 50mm f1.8~~ they should be fun !!

Customer Service

N/A was too embarrrassed to revist the shop with 'that' lens....
