Strength:
Lighweight, excellent value for money and despite some postings, mine is very well made.
Weakness:
When the focusing ring is rotaed fully around, one would expect sharpness at infinity, but not so. The ring has to be moved back slightly on my sample - a real pain! An exceptional lens for the money, mine is well made and produces good images between 70-200. Not so good between 200-300. Needs to be stopped down (to around f8/f11 for best results). The infinity focusing (see above) is a real pain though. All in all a pretty darn good lens for the money, nice and light weight too. Strength:
Great lens for the money! I get good results from 70 right out to 300mm.
Weakness:
Cheap feel when using the manual focus ring. AF mode at greater than 200mm is not very fast, sometimes 'hunts' for focus. I was really suprised at the sharpness of the pictures I get. Its a nice lens for under $250.00. Customer Service No problems yet. Similar Products Used: 50mm 1.8 nikkor AF(very sharp) |

-Hood very awkward to mount A super value from Nikon, allowing you access to ED glass at a very reasonable price. My pictures have been very sharp throught the entire zoom range, including some strtlingly sharp portraits at the 70-135 range. I like the fact that I have 300mm @ f5.6 available for outdoor action. Shooting with 400 film, I was able to get enough speed to freeze just about anything. No buyer's remorse here- overall extremely satisfied with this lens. Strength:
The optical quality at 300mm is very good for a tele-zoom lens. The image sharpness is very good at 8x10 and more than acceptable at 11x14. The color quality is excellent.
Weakness:
I don't have a problem with the plastic construction of the lens. I like it's light weight and I don't plan on dropping the thing anyway. I do wish there was a zoom lock on the barrel. It may be a little slow to shoot sports, but with good lighting and high speed film it's fine. For street photography it's great. The image quality is very good and for the price it's one of the best lenses out there. Buy it! Customer Service Not used. Similar Products Used: Nikkor 24mm f/2.8 |

Strength:
Unbelievably compact and lightweight... especially when compared to the old 75-300 Nikkor. ED glass a real plus.
Weakness:
Okay, it feels a little cheap, but for the money it delivers some very sharp images I have an 80-200 f/2.8 Nikkor Zoom that I love, and I almost traded in the 70-300 when I bought it. I decided instead to keep it as a lightweith (and versatile) 300mm. It's a great traveling companion when you want to keep it light. It is slow at 300, so I try to use it with a 100 (or higher) ISO film. And the ED glass does give you sharper pictures with better color. If you're a shooter with a limited budget, this lens represents very good value. Customer Service Haven't needed it. Similar Products Used: 80-200 2.8D N Zoom Nikkor |

Lightweight, small, inexpensive. Great for traveling. Peformance is very good for a lens of this size, weight and price.
Weakness:
A little slow, but hey! That's why it's light. Focusing is a little slow also. As a frequent traveler, I wanted a long-range zoom to carry with me. I had a 75-300, but it weighed almost twice as much as this one, and performance was only marginally better. This is not a pro lens, how could it be at this price and size?! But for a lightweight zoom, I have been quite pleased with the results. A great value! Customer Service None needed. Similar Products Used: Nikon 75-300 4.5-5.6. |

-cannot focus closer than 5' I thought the Nikon guys lost their heads when they priced the 70-300mm ED/D lens at almost the same price range as the other two lens; 80-210mm 4.5-5.6D and 70-210 4-5.6D. For about $60 more than the other two, you get an extra range to 300mm, an ED(extra low dispersion) glass, and a lens hood. An amazing buy. Customer Service No problems yet... Small for a lens with that range

Somewhat heavy, not razor sharp I agree with my fellow Photographers. The lens is small and convenient, but I've been a little dissappointed with with its sharpness particularly at full open. I probably would not buy it again. Similar Products Used: None |
