Strength:

> Sharp.
> And yes, it is cheap.

Weakness:

> You get what you pay.
> It has few weaknesses for the price you buy it like being very plastic and of course the hood doesn't stick to the lens front.

Excellent overall lens for the price paid. I had this lens for more than 5 years when I first bought it in 2001. Sold it when I got myself a Nikon 80-200 F2.8 in 2006. I now feel I should have held on to it, since I need a less expensive zoom as a backup. I have some images of this at

Strength:

Lightweight, fast autofocus lens with quite good optics.

Weakness:

Plastic lensmount, hood doesn't function properly when wide open at the short end.

Excellent lens for the price, and much underrated by reviewers who compare everything to the highend professional lenses that cost 10+ times as much.

Customer Service

Not needed, but Nikon service in my experience is professional and fast.

Strength:

Low cost, good range, sharp centers, good color, lightweight.

Weakness:

Weak, plastic filter threads.

Underrated lens. I find myself using it more and more often. Construction is light - plastic, not meta- but look at the price. You won''t find a better value for the price and the range. Superior to the new Nikon 70-300 G lens. I''ve used it for portraits and wildlife with great results and have resently been using it with the Nikon 4T closeup diopter, also with great results in macro photography. Don''t be fooled by the low price. This is a good lens.

Strength:

Sharp, very useful range, and inexpensive. For most subjects, it produces high quality images very similar to, but not the same as, Nikon''s prime lenses, at a fraction of the cost. Just make sure you buy a good sample (test it as soon as possible) and have your film processed by a decent lab.

Weakness:

Would benefit from a faster aperture (particularly at the long end) but of course it would mean higher prices. If your camera has a reasonably bright viewfinder, then practice holding the camera steady, use a tripod, use a fast film (such as the excellent Agfa Scala), or all of the above. Like most lenses, best results at f8 to f11. Also, it is difficult to focus manually. Then again, it is an autofocus lens!

This is an ideal zoom lens for all but perhaps the most demanding professional photographer. Don''t let the low price (more money for film), plastic construction (kinder to you neck and back), and the ''Made in China'' label (so what!?) put you off buying this lens. It is a Nikon lens in its most important characteristic - glass.

Customer Service

Never needed it.

Strength:

Light weight, sharp lens for the money. Range covers the most popular zoom needs -- from portraits, landscapes, and more.

Weakness:

Some concern over build quality, and it would be nice if it had ED glass -- although what do you expect for a street price of $140?

When traveling light is a priority, this lens is superb. Sharp, contrasty images, and cheap (but not cheap results). Best when stopped down a bit -- and don't expect fabulous enlargements above 8X10. Great value, although I traded mine for the 70-300 so I couldget the ED glass and share filters with my 28-105mm. This is no reflection on this lens in and of itself. If you're looking for a lightweight, high performing mid-range zoom for under $200, this is it.

Strength:

Fast autofocus, excellent sharpness at F8 - F11 at most zoom lengths. Works well with
N70. Good for action photography.
Excellent price to performance ratio.
Results are good up to
8x11 blow ups, maybe more with tripod.
I use this lens for action shots and the results are very good.
Lens is sharp.

Weakness:

Needs higher speed film for existing light photography for good results without a tripod

Good all around travel photography lens that offers versatility and convenience.

Strength:

Affordable telephoto lens.
light

Weakness:

Plastic mount.

I can't tell you how this compares with other lens because I only used 15 years old P & S camera before I bought F60. I am happy with the kind of pictures I'm getting from this Set (see pics at http://www.pangea.ca/~apark). Once I dropped my lens my camera with this lens mounted on the camera. My camera which was in the well padde bag slipped off my shoulder, and it hit the ground. It was such a gentle drop, but I managed to break the lend mount. Needless to say, I couldn't use my telephoto for just over a month and it cost me about $100 (just under half of the lens cost)to get it fixed. (warantee didn't cover because I dropped it). Of course, now I'm much more careful whenever I'm carrying my camera and I never leave the telephoto (which is larger and heavier than my 28-80 mm lens) mounted when I'm not using.

Although, the lens are fragile, I love this lens for telephoto capability at a cheap price.

Customer Service

It took me more than month to fix my lens mount.

Strength:

Easy to use, Very good built, good optical quality, very good contrast,

Weakness:

Auto focus a little slow

For the money this lens seems to meet my needs for outdoor and action Photography. I do plan on trading this lens for a Nikon 70-300mm ED AF f4-5.6 because of the (exlcelent quality) Nikon ED Optical glass.

Strength:

Light (thanks plastic mount)
Cheap (thanks plastic mount)
Sharp and contrast pictures
Very good zoom range

Weakness:

I like this lens. Very easy and comfortable to use. I like Nikon's idea to save smart customers money by putting their super good glass into the cheap plastic bodies (never had any problem with light plastic mount at all and never heared somybody has). Good sharpness and contrast. Nose by nose compare with another Nikon's telezooms. Great bargain if you don't care about prestige but picture quality. Buy it if you will find it. It's the deal.

Strength:

Cheap and light.
Good contrast.
Easy to carry on travels.
Even better results on a D1!

Weakness:

None for this price.

For a long time I have traveled with big, heavy equipment. That is, this mai I went to London without my old, trusty 300 mm 2,8.
On return I was supposed to cover a soccer-match in Oslo. With just a 20-35 that would be a difficult task. I went to the nearest store and bought this Nikon-lens, and I don`t regret.
On a D1 only the middle part of the lens is used, and that only makes the pictures even better! When in trouble because the lens is quite slow, I just turn the ISO to 800 or 1600 ASA.
So, for all you digital-owners out there. The new technology makes even cheap lenses like this usable for us professionals too.
No problems at all for sports-photographers and people in need of a long to medium lens.

Customer Service

Never a problem in Norway for us professionals. Very good service by the Nikon-importer.
