Strength:
Nice sharp results. Attractive crinkled exterior finish. Great design complete with limit switch as well as M/A modes. Dual rings; focus/focal length adjustments.
Weakness:
A little big and heavy, but for an F/2.8 lens, it goes with the territory. If there is one zoom lens that you intend to have in your lens arsenal, this should be it. This version may lack the silent wave motor, but as a result, it is alot cheaper (not to mention smaller and lighter). The dual softrubber-grip adjustment rings work quite well, as does the limit switch which saves the lens from having to search through the whole focal range (which saves camera battery power). The tripod collar is great resting in palm of hand, coupled with the fact that the entire lens/camera can rotate 290 degrees while mounted on a tripod is also a nice touch. Great lens! Customer Service So far, there is no need for them. Similar Products Used: None |

Price A great lens! This is the perfect lens for shooting candid portraits as well as just about everything else. This has to be my most used lens so far. I really like the AF-S motor in this lens and it has captured everything I shot it at so far. Perhaps the only thing better would be and 80-200 f/2.8D IF-ED AF-S VR lens that doesn't have any light falloff when shot wide open. Well see what the future holds... Strength:
Rather sharp lenticle, the pleasant(sweet) portraits receive at usage of focal distances of 135-200 mms at f/2,8-4. Bokeh is charming. A ratio price / quality, IMHO, best. One of the causes of my selection of a system Nikon availability of this lenticle!
Weakness:
Is not remarked Each user, respecting, Nikon IS OBLIGED to have this lenticle for itself, differently he does not know and there is no right to speak about quality zoom’s Nikon! Customer Service This parameter is not meaningful in my country; -) the Necessity did not arise … Similar Products Used: AF-S 17-35/2,8D ED-IF |

Strength:
Very sharp optics, AF speed, and build quality
Weakness:
When attached to my F5, I can feel a little bit "shaky" when you lift the camera up and down w/o touching the lens. Shot 2 print rolls, highly appreciated. Awesome sharpness, good contrast! it's so robust and the AF speed is great. Customer Service I'm trying to send this and let the Nikon technician examined the contacts. Optical quality
Weakness:
Noisy, slow AF This is a fine lens - optically up there with the best of them, but the AF performance is extremely poor compared to the Sigma 70-210 HSM. There is a lot of noise, hesitation and hunting. Used on a variety of bodies, I had both lenses at the same time for field testing. In terms of optical quality, there was nothing in it at all (tested using Velvia, a tripod, a loupe and Leica projector with 90mm colorplan lens). Both lenses are brilliant in that respect. In terms of handling, however, the Sigma won by a mile. The ability to instantly adjust the AF manually, without the need to switch anything, and the much faster and more positive AF won the day. Both lenses have a nice tripod collar, and construction quality again appears equal. The Silent Wave Nikkor is superb - and overcomes these objections - at a price. The 80-200 2.8 D, while a lovely piece of glass, is outgunned in the value stakes, and is equalled in optical performance by the HSM Sigma. After 10 days of testing, I returned the Nikkor and kept t he Sigma. Customer Service Not needed Similar Products Used: Sigma 70-200 2.8 HSM |

Quality, quality, quality! Consistently fast and sharp throughout all focal lengths.
Weakness:
Doesn't come with a hood. Carry case isn't that great either. Bought the lens new about a month ago. There are many used ones available if that is not the case. I am very happy with my purchase. One should definitely go for the best lend that he can afford. Customer Service Excellent. When my 28-85mm broke after years of use, they repaired it for free.
