Tamron AF28-200mm Super II Macro 35mm Zoom

Tamron AF28-200mm Super II Macro 35mm Zoom

DESCRIPTION

Polished to unparalleled perfection, the Super II Macro clears 0.49m M.O.D. (Minimum Object Distance) at all focal ranges and is easier to use. While maintaining its initial high-zoom ratio lens technology, closer camera-to-subject working distance is more comfortably accomplished. And with the unique Zoom -lock feature in an attractive gun-metal chassis, which stays at its retracted stage while being toted around.

Strength:

Compact size, image quality, light weight, non-rotating front element

Weakness:

None that I can find

I am very impressed with this lens; much sharper and contrasty images than my earlier Tamron 28-200 Super returned. You can see pictures I shot with this lens on my web site at http://www.jhberkandassociates.com/Joe_Berk_Photography.htm

Strength:

extremely handy, no need to change lens, reasonably sharp

Weakness:

tend to hunt in AF

For the money, I can say that it is unbeatable. At 4R, it's already noticeably sharper than the stock Minolta 28-80 that came together with my 505si. It is THE lens to buy if you are travelling and only wish to bring only 1 lens with you.

Weakness:

• low light focusing
• width slighty blocks Minolta 7000i body's AF illuminator

Test results against the old Minolta 35-105 showed the Tamron was much sharper at all zoom lengths with better color and contrast. I wanted a single multi-purpose lens, and this is fabulous.

Strength:

Small and light for zoom range and macro. Great performance.

Weakness:

At this price, none.

I have an EOS3 and 28-135 IS, this was bought for my wife to go on her EOS30. The pictures from the 30 with the Tamron are obviously better sharpness and contrast. The IS lens comes into its own at concerts though. This lens is picking up loads of awards. Never trust reviews you read as absolute, go and look through the lens you are going to buy and test it yourself.
Have fun taking photos, Paul.

Great value. Always remember 28mm - 200mm. The lens is crisp with good contrast and works well with a Nikon N60 body. In this combination you get a < $500.00 set-up with great range and good performance.

Weakness:

Very sharp pictures, AF is fast and accurate, nice zoom range. I bought this lens with my Nikon n65 and I am very pleased with it. I developed a couple rolls of film that was taken outdoors, inside (dark dance club), and close-ups. Very good quality! Good all around lens

I struggled on deciding whether to get this or the Sigma 28-300 which is around the same price. I finally decided on this lens and I don't regret it, not one bit. I got the pictures today half of which was shot using the 28-80 that came with my Pentax. The pictures shot with the Super II is just amazingly sharp and crisp. I was really impressed. It just blended well with my ZX-7. I don't know if I'll be using the 28-80 anymore. I'll just take this in my backpack along with a tripod and I'm all set. Thanks also to Joe Berk who did a review on this lens. I went to his website and actually learned some techniques. I highly recommend this to any beginner or casual photographer. You won't regret it. If you want an all around lens, this is it! Family photos on 4x6 are awesome. Try Fuji or Agfa(Kirkland from Costco) film though. The Kodak Max 400 that I used is kind of grainy but still turned out nice. I usually use Fuji and our local Kirkland film (200 & 400). I guess it's a matter of preference. Bottom line, the Super II is, in my opinion, the best all around lens to have. Again, AWESOME Lens!!!!!!!!!!
