Tamron AF28-200mm Super II Macro 35mm Zoom

Tamron AF28-200mm Super II Macro 35mm Zoom

DESCRIPTION

Polished to unparalleled perfection, the Super II Macro clears 0.49m M.O.D. (Minimum Object Distance) at all focal ranges and is easier to use. While maintaining its initial high-zoom ratio lens technology, closer camera-to-subject working distance is more comfortably accomplished. And with the unique Zoom -lock feature in an attractive gun-metal chassis, which stays at its retracted stage while being toted around.

Strength:

There is no lens that will do as many things OK.

Weakness:

It does no single thing well.

Bought this lens to haul around on a motorycle because I was tired of using two lens, (both Canon, 28-105 and 100-300). Ended up selling it and going back to the two tele set-up. The Tamron never ever gave me quite the sharpness, contrast and focus speed of the Canons.

A lens that just does OK is not justification for owning it.

Customer Service

It never broke.

Strength:

Versatility, fast auto focus.

Weakness:

Large

Great lens. Exactly what I wanted. I use it on a Minolta XTSI, and it gives great quality pictures. It is a tad large (fat), but I am used to it. I took pictures at my daughter's wedding shower this weekend, and am very pleased with its versatility and quality. For the type of lens that it is, I have not found any better.

I even had some "novices" use the camera at the wedding shower, and they commented on how good the camera and lens worked together. The camera has "eyestart" autofocus that focuses as you point the camera, and the lens is fast. The pictrues they took turned out very well, also. I would recommend it highly.

You should know that it is not designed to be a prime lens with the sharp-as-a-tack resolution. I use my Olympus OM4Ti with my Zuiko prime lenses (21mm, 24mm, 28mm, 35mm, 40mm, 50mm, 100mm, 135mm, 200mm) for that type of photography.

Strength:

Versatality

Weakness:

Heavy weight

Although Tamron said in their web site that it is as light as one pound, my Canon rebel G and the lens plus batteries and strap weights over two pounds. It is difficult to hold the camera in one hand while using my left hand for zooming. I don’t recommend it if you don’t want anything over one pound to carry around.

Strength:

this lens has one heck of a range. The wide angle side of the lens is extremely sharp and gathers quite alot of light. When shooting at higher millimeters, the glass is still very sharp. I've taken some beautiful pictures with it. Also, the price is very affordable and the lens is a real bang for the buck. It's also quite compact and very light. And although it doesn't produce true 1:1 macro shots, it still shoots awesome close ups.

Weakness:

just use fast film when you're shooting at higher millimeters.

Talk about a deal! If you need just one little lens to take with you.........wherever you go, grab this one. This is a very, very nice lens, corner to corner, edge to edge.

Customer Service

Garbage, they jacked me on the 35 dollar rebate.

Strength:

convient lens

Weakness:

not wide enough
wierd handling(after using other lens)

Intially I loved it. The covience was great, and I was impressed with the colors in my pictures. The, I discovered better lenses and have been regretting it ever since. The viewfinder is too dark, the max apeture is not enough for low light operation or for throwing backgrounds out of focus, and it has lost its good feeling after leaning to using my 50mm and 24mm more often. Looking for a a good deal on an 80 200, but then what do I do with this one?

Strength:

Flexibility

Weakness:

Aperture adjustment button is awkward to get to on the Pentax ZX-5n

I bought this lens mainly because I had a pending trip to Disney World, and didn't want to lug around multiple lenses. From my beginners perspective, it was a wise decision. I used the lens at multiple focal lengths, and was not disappointed with any of the results. The lens/ZX5n combo fit nicely in my Pentax hip pouch, making it easy to carry. I think this is an excellent general use lens, especially for travelling where 'framing with the feet' is not always practical.

Customer Service

Excellent - received rebate within a few weeks of purchase

sharpness!

for me sharpness is very important. a good lens must produce a good focus.
i've shot about 20 rolls with this lens, non of my pictures came up sharp enough!
i'll soon sell it and buy the 28-135 IS of canon.
i'll get less range but better results.

Zoom range, weight, size, color reproduction.

Weakness:

Vingetting @ 28mm wide open :(

The lens is excellent, color reproduction and sharpness is very OK (I shoot slides for projection). The only drawback is that vingetting problem. 5 stars anyway (actually I'd give 4.75) :)
