    Strength:

Very sharp, contrast. Good color balance, good tonality. Fast and accurate autofocus.

    Weakness:

    No.

I've been using this lens as a complement to Canon 28-135 USM IS for Canon EOS D30. I found this lens extremly helpful for indoor and group pictures. 40mm (64mm on D30) end is good for portret. I noticed that color balance is more accurate (especially with hood) than Canon's 28-135. I am suprised, but Tamron became my all-day lens.

    Strength:

    Price, Speed, Sharpness.

    Weakness:

    Noisy, 17mm would be better.

I like the sharpness, the lens focus is noisy but fast. IMHO i get the same quality like the canon L 17mm-35mm at least to my naked eyes but I've only paid 1/3 the price tho I sacrifice the 3mm. If you ask me will I buy this lens again? well I would. I'm very happy with it.

    Strength:

The images taken with this lens are very sharp. Focus is surprisingly quite and quick for a non-USM lens.
    Wide aperture gives bright viewfinder.

    Weakness:

Flare. Manual focus ring too light to use. Rotating focusing ring.

    This is an excellent lens.

I had become very disillusioned with the images from my Canon 24-85 zoom. It was not until I saw the images from the Tamron that I knew why. On transparency film (E100SW) they are very sharp, even with the aperture wide open and in poor light. The color is neutral. They have an almost 3D feel about them. They just leap out at you from the light box. Something the images from the Canon never did.

But watch out for flare. You need to be careful where you position the sun otherwise this lens will flare.

Manual focus is not really possible, as the focusing ring is too light. To be fair auto focus with an EOS 5 is so good that this is not a problem. Even in a poorly lit shopping mall the camera lens combination auto focuses quickly with no hunting.

This lens is excellent value for the money. Its best suited for someone who wants wide-angle images. The focal range of the lens makes it surprisingly good for taking candid photographs of people.

For me the poor manual focusing and the flare means I would like to rate the lens overall closer to 4.5 than 5.

    Strength:

Great range. I was considering buying the Nikon 20-35, but I couldn't afford it four years ago. I got this one for $1000 less. My favorite lens range once I started using it. You can use the lens to select the amount of landscape you want in the picture. Good color, sharpness and contrast. I think it's probably a bit lower in quality then the Nikon, but I used the extra $1000 to get an 80-200 f2.8.

    Weakness:

viginetting at times. When used with flash you have to remove the lens hood or you get shadows

If you can't spend the big bucks, this lens is well worth the money. My second most used lens. Travel, group photos, special effects. I'd buy it again.
