I'd used York to develop my pictures when I was a kid living with my parents, so when I got back into film photography I decided to use them again. The first time I sent them film my order was processed quickly and I couldn't have been happier. The second time it took a little longer but I was okay with that. But the third time has made me detest them.

I sent in three rolls of film, and they reached York on January 17. Despite the website stating that your photos would be online in 1 - 2 days, it took a full week for my photos to be online, and they only developed two of them. After I received the email telling me my order had shipped I got another email saying my film (the third roll) had reached York. I was understandably upset and filled out one of their customer service forms but got back your standard "sorry for the inconvenience" letter and that was it. A few days later I got an email saying my order had been shipped. They had never put my photos from the third roll of film online, and when they arrived at my house I found out they hadn't given me the cd either. But that wasn't all that they'd done wrong. The third roll of film was taken with my Diana Mini, which does half frame photos so that two photos fit on one standard 4x6 piece of photo paper. What they had done was develop each half frame so that they were all separate pictures. Not only did enlarging them ruin the quality of some of the pictures, but I purposely used half frame because I like the look of having two photos on one.

I sent York another e-mail detailing how they'd messed up this time and asking for a refund. I just got a response saying that they don't put half frame photos online or on cds. Unless this is a new policy, one that to the best of my knowledge is nowhere on their website, this is bull. I have photos online with York right now that are half frame. One of the first two rolls I sent to them was half frame.

I will not be using York again, and I'm advising as many other people as I possibly can not to use them. You may be fine if everything goes alright, but if things go wrong their customer service is terrible.

    Customer Service

Very poor. If you send a complaint you're likely to receive a recycled "sorry for the inconvenience" letter and that's it.

Ok, I am not usually one to complain but DO NOT develop your pictures through York Photos, it is a shady company that offers good deals yes, but let me tell you get less than what you pay for. My photos were orange looking, cut off, and some of the peoples lips were black colored, really weird looking. I emailed them several times and they only offer a refund if you send all your pics back in which...why woud they want them back, to recycle?? I can do that at home. Anyways, its not worth sending them back, Guess that is what I get for not paying the money at walgreens or somewhere else. It is too good to be true everyone trust me, God bless!!!

I have ordered from York Photo for many years without a problem until this month.

I ordered some invitations from them and have not received them. I have made 5 attempts to contact them and received one response telling me I should wait at least 13 business days for my order. If they don't arrive at that point, I should contact them again and request a resend of my order. The shipping that I paid for was for 3-5 business days and if I ever receive the order, it will be too late to send them.

I'm very disappointed in their lack of service and response to my order. I will no longer be recommending York or using them.

    Strength:

Cheaper than most (but I guess you get what you pay for)

Card was pretty good quality for the price. Colors slightly off.

    Weakness:

    Very poor quality control.
Slow response to fixing their errors and not corrected after 2 additonal tries.

Ordered photo Christmas note cards from York on 12/5. When they arrived a week later the inside printing was upside down. An email sent to tell them I needed them immediately for Christmas mailing. Took another week and they were still upside down. Phoned them and they offiered to take 1/2 off. Stated needed them right away and if I didn't get them I expected a full refund. Recd them on Dec 23 and they were still wrong! I am sending them back and will see if I get the full refund.

Stay away from York if you want your order in a timely manner.

    Strength:

Will print 4"x5.3" prints that do not crop your photos without additional charge (this is hard to find at their price)
    Low cost
    Decent quality

    Weakness:

    Print have a yellowish hue
    Now using lower-quality paper
    Photos sometimes arrive bent up

Decent service, great price, but quality has decreased over the last year. They are now using a lower grade paper for 4x6 prints. They were using Fuji Crystal Archive for all their prints, but now are using a lower grade of Kodak paper, that has a sticky, lightweight, cheap feeling to it. I have also noticed (and this may be due to the new paper) that my prints have a yellowish hue. Others have noted the same, so I know it's not just my photos. You may want to order a print or two before doing a large order, so you can color correct your images to suit their printer/paper combo. I will continue to use them but will not order glossy prints. Their matte paper seems to be a little better in quality.

    Strength:

    Low price

    Coupons

    Weakness:

    Uploads frequently fail

    Creased 8x10s

    Poor colour quality

Poor Firefox compatibility for gift products/books

Unsorted photos (randomly ordered, not in album order or even sorted by album)

No labelling on the back (ie no file name, date, etc.)

No index print (unless you buy a photo CD)

    Slow shipping

I just did a massive order through York, and have to get them to replace one print because the colour is so messed up (my baby's lips came out black despite being perfectly rosy in the uploaded photo), they creased the tops of my 8x10s, the shipping was extremely slow and the order went out much later than they claimed it would, none of the photos have labelling on the backs (ie no filename, no date, nothing) and they sent them in a completely mixed up order so for over 500 prints I now have to do a significant amount of manual sorting with no labels to assist. I'm really quite unimpressed. Dotphoto was a penny per print more but they label the photos and send them in the order you request them, so next time it'll be worth a penny per photo to get that!

Also, York doesn't send an index, and their wallet size has colour shifts compared to the same photos in 4x6.

Very poor quality, I'd say, compared to other almost-as-cheap services.

    Customer Service

They apologize a lot for problems but don't fix anything.

Dotphoto was much better in all respects and definitely worth the extra penny per print (if you prebuy at the maximum level).

    Strength:

    prints decent quality

    Weakness:

    They delete your photos

I uploaded over 100 high resolutions (~5MB) wedding pictures back in April to York Photo. The quality of the pictures were pretty good, better than WinkFlash I think, the color is warmer, they used Kodak paper.

BUT, if you order bunch at a time, be expect that the edge of many of your prints will get bended because they ship the prints in cheap thin envelopes. I wrote them a complaint letter, got no response.

When I logged in last night, I found out that ALL 600MB photos I uploaded are GONE!!! I don't know if York Photo deleted them because I am using too much of its space or because I sent them a complaint letter or simply because the server crashed and erased my photo. This is really scary. I spent days picking out the photos and uploading them. REally upset. Sent them another complaint letter, don't think I will get any response this time...

I ordered close to $10 of prints from York Photo. They never delivered my prints and all complaints I made via email (couldn't track a customer service number) went unanswered. THEY BASICALLY RIPPED ME OFF AND STOLE MY MONEY!!
I will never use their services again, and I advise you the same! Stay away from them! They are unethical and fraudulent!

    Strength:

very cheap (on sale $0.12 for 4x6 print) nice color reasonably quick

    Weakness:

they need some better options for other goods (such as font size for a notepad) but they are not as critical as picture quality. just minor complaint

sent some pictures for testing the site and got pretty decent pictures. it's even cheaper than other guys.

    Customer Service

    did not use it yet
