Strength:

Many advantages:
-Threepoint eye focus is wonderful to have when there is slower action.
-Controls make it easy to manipulate.
-Custom functions are easy to use
-Great overall rookie to interested photographer

Weakness:

It would be nice to have a light up dial for night photography, and other low-light situations.

The Camera does very well overall, and is great for the average photographer looking for a stepping stone into higher photography. I have used professional cameras, but for the money, this is a wonderful camera.

Customer Service

I've been using this camera since it first came out...in all kinds of weather and not once has it failed. I'm somewhat skeptical of those who claim eye control focus is a gimmick. In my opinion, they write it off as a gimmick without ever really giving it a chance and realizing what an advantage it is, especially in wildlife photography. The camera's controls and funtions are simple and easy to use and I still prefer it to my 7e for landscape photography..especially the way you can link the depth of field preview to the AE button making it very comfortable to use compared to the 7e's tiny DOF button.
A great camera!

Strength:

Everything it does is done good. The Canon EF lenses beat all the other brands, Image stabilizer is a true revolution.
Canon EX flash means perfect flash all the time

Weakness:

No spotmeter. Meteringsymbols on the site are confusing, I have attached a sticker.

My first camera, and I will never sell it. After eight weddings this camera has never let me down and always perfect results.

The 550EX flash is made in heaven. From fill flash to indoor, allways perfect. A friend of mine has Nikon and we often compare. Canon fill flash is more natural. Planning to buy the 420EX for vacation and as slave unit. Tip: For even more pleasing results use omni-bounce diffuser from sto-fen.

Lenses. The 17-35mm 2.8L is good, but 28-70mm 2.8L and 70-200mm 2.8L are better, if not the best. These lenses, if you can afford them, make a dreamkid. On vacation I bring along two out of three, depending where I'm going. Tip: lowe-pro micro trekker 200 backbag.

The camera is in perfect balance with L serie lenses if you use the verticalgrip/ batterypack.

I can recomment this camera to anybody who is into taking serious pictures.

What I miss is a spotmeter. With partial metering and bracketing you end up with good results.

Customer Service

Girlfriend dropped camera with EF17-35mm 2.8L. No serious damage and a quick repair. They only charged me for one item.

Shutter button sticks occasionally.

Overall, the Elan II is a strong competitor in the ~$500 price range.

Strength:

1. Most features for the money. Period.
2. Exemplary user interface: the most intuitive of any camera I have used.
3. Quiet operation (compared to similar models from other brands), except for surprisingly loud mirror slap
4. Overall solid construction

Weakness:

1. No true spotmeter
2. That mirror slap noise
3. My buit-in flash died after 3 years (of moderate use)

You can't get more from any other autofocus SLR for the same price. I just hope they put in a spotmeter when the new version comes out (whenever that is).

Strength:

This camera was my first Autofocus. I bought it in 97. It has been great. I have used most of the features, but usually rely on the straight program mode for most shots. Camera is extremely easy to handle. Have found that I shoot a ton more verticles since I bought the underbody battery pack with the verticle shutter release button (BP-5?).

Weakness:

No mechanical. Wish it had a light on the LCD panel for night shooting though.

Camera is fast, quiet and reliable.

Customer Service

Haven't had to use it.

Probably not for the snobby or the people who consider themselves pros.

This is a wonderful camera for the price and if you're not looking for super professional equipment. Easy to use and learn. Very versatile.

Strength:

Handles easy, is the right weight, size and programs easily....But

Weakness:

Yes, many. I think that there is alot of hype with this camera that is just not warranted. First, of all most reviews in magazines are given by photographers that are loaned the equipment by manufacturers, or given discounts or both. We the consumers buy these products on the word of some paid professional who gets paid doing this. We get stuck with a product that is not all it cracks out to be.
It is difficult to make adjustments for shutter speed changes or aperature changes. It is difficult to make changes without having either the handbook for guidance and reference. I got better results with a Minolta 400 than I did with the Canon.

That as a professional who does mostly stock, and commercial
photography I would never buy Canon again. It is the company that
stands for its customer that I most want to be with.

Customer Service

Lousy, I have talked to them until I am blue in the face and nothing. I threatened to take the camera to there door step and leaving it with them or one of there professaional reviewers who are to blame for my buying this product.
